This invention relates generally to material digging, scraping, leveling, grading and transporting machines, and more specifically to that class of machines commonly known as scrapers, and is an improvement upon my co-pending application Serial No. 200,919 filed April 8, 1938, which issued as Patent No. 2,223,329 dated December 3, 1940.
In my co-pending application above noted, I disclose and describe a scraper includi b support having a bowl swingably mounted thereon and means for raising and lowering said bowl support substantially without tilting it, said raising and lowering means comprising operably associated front and rear frames pivotally connected with said support, and means for swinging said frames. The advantage of this structure resides in the fact that the bowl bottom may be disposed in a substantially horizontal plane in both loading and carrying positions thereof. 7
It is therefore, the principal object of this the present invention to improve upon the disclosures in my co-pending application Serial No. 200,919, which issued as Patent No. 2,223,829 dated December 3, 1940, by simplifying the same so as to provide a less expensive device and yet one which will be effective for the purpose for which it is designed.
More specifically, an object of this invention is the'provision in a machine of the class named, of a main frame supported for tilting movement in a vertical plane, a bowl pivotally supported on said main frame and including a bottom, a secondary frame supported for tilting movement in a vertical plane and pivotally connected with said main frame, operatable means between said main and secondary frames for swinging the same to raise and lower said bowl so as to selectively dispose the same in loading and carrying positions, and means between said secondary frame and said bowl arranged to function in response to the swinging movement of said secondary frame so as to swing said bowl about its pivotal connection with said main frame in a direction maintaining the bottom of said bowl in a substantially constant parallel relation to the ground thereunder in both loading and carrying positions of said bowl.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art upon a detailed perusal of these specifications and the attached drawings wherein I have exemplified and described my invention, but it is to be understood that my invention as herein exemplified and described is susceptible to numerous changes and modifications in the co-relation and forming of the various parts, member and features, without departin from the spirit of the invention as defined in the annexed claims.
Figure 1 is a side view in elevation of my invention disposed in carrying position.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary top plan view of a portion of the invention showing the means by which the secondary frame acts upon the bowl for maintainin the bottom thereof in a substantially constant parallel relation to the ground thereunder, all parts being in the scraping position.
Figure 3 is a side elevation in section of my invention in loading position.
Figure 4 is a side elevation of a modified form of my invention in carrying position.
Figure 5 is a side elevation in section of the modified form of my invention, all parts thereof being disposed in loading position.
Referring now more specifically to structure by alluding to reference characters on the drawings, and for the time being, to Figures 1 to 3 inclusive, a main frame In includes transversely spaced side walls H to which are secured reenforcing frame members l2,secured at their forward ends to a transverse beam I 3, and to which there is also secured a triangular frame member Hi, the lower end l5 of triangular frame member It being articulately mounted as shown at it, see Figure 3, upon a transversely disposed axle ll having rolling supports l8 journaled thereon and is provided with a draft pole 19 adapted at its forward'end, as shown in Figure 1, for connection to a draft device, and a transverse blade support 20 extends between sidewalls I l and is supported thereon.
A blade 2| is detachably secured to blade support 20.
A transverse beam 22 is disposed at the lower rear ends of sidewalls H and is attached at its opposite ends thereto.
Thus it is seen that I have provided a main frame It! supported on front axle I! for swinging movement in a vertical plane.
A bowl 23 is disposed between sidewalls II and is supported for tilting movement about a pivot 24, bowl 23 including a bottom 25 and a back wall 26, provided at their opposite ends with end plates 21 rigid therewith.
A secondary frame 28 is disposed rearwardly of main frame 10 and comprises a transverse beam 29 provided at each of its ends with a forwardly extending arm 30 pivotally connected adtheir front ends with frame Ill as shown beam 2?: being provided with depending brackets supported upon an axle 33 having rolling supports journaled thereon. Thus I have provided a secondary frame 28 supported swingin movement in a vertical plane and pivctally connected adjacent its forward end with main frame it adjacent its rear end, as shown at El.
Transverse beam .22 is provided with brackets 35 supporting a horizontal pin 36 upon which is journaled sheave means 31, and transverse beam 29 is provided on its forward side with brackets 33 arranged relative to brackets 35 and supporting a horizontal pin 39 upon which is journaled sheave means 40. A flexible element 4! is anchored as shown at 42 and passes thence back and forth about sheave means 35 and 40, thence about direction change sheaves 43 which are journaled on pins 44 carried by cross beam 29, thence forwardly about a direction change sheave 45, see Figure l, journaled in common with an arm 3b about pivot 3|, and may extend thence to a winding drum (not shown because of conventional design).
Now it is readily seen that a pulling force may be applied to, flexible member 4| to cause main frame Hi to swing upwardly at its rear end about axle i! as a pivot and that blade 2| and bowl 23 may thus be raised, whereas a slackening of a cable 4| will cause the blade and bowl to be lowered.
The opposite ends of bowl 23 are each provided with a detachable bracket 46 carrying a laterally projecting journal 41 upon which is journaled a roller 48, each of the journals 4'! being arranged above an arm 30, each of which is provided with a. portion 30' adapted to engage a roller 48 so that rollers 48 normally rest thereon, portion at being, in this instance, formed as a rigid integral part of arms 30, and it is readily seen that vertical movement of arms 3|] about pivots 3| and relative to the main frame l must cause the bowl 23 to tilt relative to main frame H3 about pivot 24.
Brackets 43 are detachably secured to bowl 23 so that they may be selectively positioned and secured thereto to thus selectively determine the parallel relation of bowl bottom 25 relative to the ground thereunder. Soil conditions vary and while it is advantageous to dispose the bowl bottom as close to the ground as possible in loading position thereof, yet this is not always feasible in ground containing large rocks and the like, so that itmay, under such conditions, be necessary to dispose th bowl bottom in a slight upward tilt at its'rear end when in loading position.
Now having selectively secured brackets 46 to bowl 23, suitable manipulation of flexible element 4! may be resorted to for causing frames Ill and 28 to swing, in a vertical plane and relative to each other for raising or lowering bowl 23, and since the rear end of bowl 23 is normally supported upon means 30' by means of the bracket, journal and roller assembly 46, 41 and 48 respectively, said swinging movement of frame 28, and consequently arms 38, will cause said bowl to be swung about pivot 24 in a direction maintaining said bowl bottom 25 in the selected parallel relation to the ground thereunder in both loading and carrying positions of said bowl.
A transverse beamv 49 is secured along the upper edge of back wall '26 and i provided with upstanding brackets 50 carrying a horizontal pin having sheave means 52 journaled thereon.
An auxiliary bowl 53 i disposed transversely of and in front of sidewalls II and is arranged relative to blade 2|. Arms 54 are secured at their front ends to auxiliary bowl 53 and extend thence rearwardly to a pivotal connection with frame H! as shown at 55. The auxiliary bowl 53 is thus arranged relative to sidewalls H and blade 2| so that it may serve to open or close the intake opening defined by sidewalls H and blade 2|.
Auxiliary bowl 53 is provided with upstanding brackets 56 carrying a horizontal pin 51 having sheave means 58 journaled thereon.
Main frame lil is provided with upstanding brackets 59 arranged relative to brackets 50 and 53 and supports a horizontal pin 6|] having sheave means 5| journaled thereon.
A flexible element 62 is secured at an end to brackets 55 as shown at 63 and extends back and forth about sheave means 52 and 6|, thence back and forth about sheave means 6| and 58, and may extend thence to a winding drum (not shown because of conventional design).
It will be readily understood that a pulling force may be applied to flexible element 62, and as a result, auxiliary bowl 53 being lighter than main bowl 23, will move upwardly, and when the auxiliary bowl 53 has reached its uppermost limits of movement the main bowl 23 will then be caused to tilt about pivot 24 as an axis, whereas, a slackening of flexible element 62 will permit the main bowl 23 to first, being heavier than auxiliary bowl 53, tilt downwardly at its rear end about pivot 24, and when rollers 48 have contacted arms 35, the auxiliary bowl may then swing downwardly about pivots 55 to closed position.
In operation, my invention may be secured to a pulling'device and drawn thereby across a surface to be treated. 'When it is desired to gather a load of materials, suitable manipulation of flexible element 4| may be resorted to for lowering blade 2| into scraping contact with the ground, bowl 23 also moving downwardly with blade 2|, and suitable manipulation of flexible element 62 is resortedto for swinging auxiliary bowl 53 upwardly to uncover the intake opening. It should be noted at this point, that as pivot 24 moves downwardly in response to suitable manipulation of cable 4| and the resulting downward swinging movement of frames l0 and 28, arms 30, as they swing about pivots 3| and relative to frame it, will impart an upward tilting movement to bowl 23 relative to frame l0 so as to maintain bowl bottom 25 in the selected parallel relation to the ground thereunder and thus cause bottom 25 to assume the most advantageous position for receiving the load scraped up by blade 2|.
When the desired load ha been accumulated, cable 62 is slackened to allow auxiliary bowl 53 to move downwardly to closed position, and a pulling force is applied to cable 4| to raise the main and auxiliary bowls and dispos the machine in the carrying position of Figure 1, and in which position the machine may be drawn to the place where the load is to be discharged.
When it is desired to discharge the load. a pulling force is applied to cable 62 with the result that auxiliary bowl 53 swings to open posi tion, and when the uppermost limits of movement thereof have been reached, main bowl 23 tilts upwardly about pivot 24 to such a degree that the materials therein may spill outwardly therefrom.
The bowls 23 and 53 may then again be disposed in the position of Figure 1 by simply slackening cable 62.
Referring now to a modified form of my inven tion, shown in Figures 4 and 5, a main frame 65, comprises spaced apart sidewalls 66 rigidly connected at their rear end by transverse beams 61 and 68 having rearwardly extending frame portions 69 rigid therewith and provided with a transverse axle I upon which are journaled rolling supports II. Sidewalls 66 are rigidly connected at their lower forward ends by means of a transverse blade support I2 extending between sidewalls 66 and. rigidly attached at it opposite ends each to a sidewall 66, the upper forward portions of sidewalls 66 being cross connected by an overhead structure I4 comprising uprights I5 rigid with sidewalls 66 and connected at their upper ends by a transverse beam I6. Sidewalls 66 are further re-enforced by channel members 17 rigid therewith. s,
A transverse scraper blade 13 is detachably secured to blade support I2.
Thus, it is readily seen that I have provided a main frame supported for tilting movement in a vertical plane about a rear pivot I0.
A bowl I8 is disposed between sidewalls 66 and is supported for tilting movement about a pivot BI. Bowl I8 including a bottom I9 and a back wall 80, provided at their opposite ends with side plates 82 rigid therewith, the upper edge of back wall having a transverse beam 83 rigidly attached thereto and to side plates 82.
A secondary frame 64 includes arms 85 disposed one along each side of frame 65 and converging at their forward ends to a rigid connection with an upstanding arm 86 intermediate its ends, the lower end of upstanding arm 86 being articulately mounted, as shown in Figure 5, upon a transverse axle 87 having rolling supports 88 journaled thereon, axle 8! being adapted as shown for connection to a draft device.
The rear ends of arms 85 are each provided with a cross head 89 rigid therewith, the lower portion of crOSs head 89 being pivotally connected with main frame 65 for swinging movement relative thereto about pivot 8|.
Thus, I have provided a secondary frame 84 supported for swinging movement in a vertical plane and pivotally connected adjacent its rear end with main frame 65 as shown at 8|.
A horizontal pin 98 is supported by upstanding arm 66, adjacent the upper end thereof, and has sheave means 9| journaled thereon.
A thrust device 92 is provided with slots 83 through which pin 90 projects thus slidably supporting thrust device 92 upon arm 86, the rear end of thrust device 92 being pivotally connected at 94 with brackets 95 carried by the overhead structure I4.
A horizontal pin 96 is supported on the forward end of thrust device 92 and has sheave means 91 journaled thereon.
A cable 98 is anchored at 99, as shown, and passes thence back and forth about sheave means 9| and 9! and may extend thence to a winding drum (not shown because of conventional d sign).
As clearly shown in Figure 4, bowl I8 is provided at each side thereof with a laterally projecting journal I80 upon which is journaled a roller IOI arranged relative to the vertical por-' tion I02 formed on the free end of a link I03, the forward end of horizontal portion I04 of link I03 being pivotally connected at I05 to the upper arm I06 of a cross head 89, cross head 89 being tacted the vertical portion rigid integral portion of the secondary frame 84 as hereinbefore explained, and the free end I02 of link I03 being freely supported, as shown, relative to roller IOI, so that the secondary frame of the modified form of my invention is also adapted, by means comprising pivoted links I03, to engage rollers IOI and to swing bowl I8 relative to main frame 65 as said secondary frame swings about its pivotal mounting.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that a pulling force may be applied to cable 98 to pull sheave means SI and 9! toward each other resulting in swinging upstanding arm 86 forwardly and consequently the rear ends of arms 85 upwardly while at the same time a force is applied rearwardly to overhead structure I4 in a direction extending above axle I8 thus tending to swing the forward end of frame 65 upwardly about the rear wheels II a an axis, with the results that bowl I8 together with blade I3 is raised, and it is clear that bowl I8 together with blade I3 may be lowered by slackening cable 98.
Now it is to be particularly noted that as arms 85 and cross head 89 swing relative to main frame 65 about pivot 8| in response to suitable manipulation of cable 98, the triangular links I03, contacting rollers I0], will be caused to move and impart a measure of tilting movement to bowl 78 about pivot 8| in a direction maintaining bowl bottom 78 in substantially a horizontal position in any tilted positions of frames 65 and 84, so that it may be said that bowl i8 may be raised and lowered substantially without tilting it.
An auxiliary bowl I0! is disposed transversely of and in front of side walls 66 and is arranged relative to blade is. Arms I08 are secured at the front ends to the auxiliary bowl I01 and are pivotally connected at their rear ends with main frame 65 at I80. .The auxiliary bowl I0! is thus arranged and supported relative to sidewalls 66 and blade I3 so that it may serve to open or close the intake opening defined by sidewalls 66 and blade 13.
Auxiliary bowl I8! is provided with brackets H0 supporting a horizontal pin III upon which is journaled sheave means I I2.
Brackets 95 carried by overhead structure I4, are provided with a horizontal pin H3 upon which is journaled sheave means I I4.
Cross beam 88, carried by back wall 80 of bowl I8, is provided with brackets II5 supporting a pin II6 upon which is journaled sheave means III.
-A cable H8 is anchored as shown at II6 and passes back and forth about sheave means Il and Ill, thence back and forth about sheave means I I0 and H2 and may extend thence to a winding drum (not shown because of conventional design).
Now it will be readily understood that a pulling force may be applied to cable I I8, and as a result, auxiliary bowl I81, being lighter than main bowl I8, will swing upwardly about pivots I09, and when the auxiliary bowl has reached its uppermost limits of movement the main bowl I8 will then be caused to tilt about pivot BI as an axis, whereas a slackening of cable I I8 will permit the main bowl I8 to tilt downwardly at its rear end about pivot 8|, and when rollers I8I have con- !82 of links I88, the auxiliary bowl I8: may then swing downwardly about pivots l09 to a closed position.
In operation, the modified form of my invention, Figures 4 and 5, may be secured to a pulling device and drawn across a surface to be treated.
When it is desired to gather a load of materials, suitable manipulation of cable 98 may be resorted to for lowering blade 13 into selected scraping contact with the ground, bowl 18 also moving downwardly with blade 13, and suitable manipulation of cable H8 is resorted to for swinging auxiliary bowl it! upwardly to uncover the intake opening.
When the desired load has been accumulated, cable lit may be slackened to allow auxiliary bowl ml to swing downwardly about pivots I09 to close the intake opening and a pulling force is applied to cable 98 to raise the main and auxiliary bowls, together with blade 13, and dispose the device in the carrying position of Figure 4, and in which position the machine may be drawn to the place where the load is to be discharged.
When it desired to discharge the load, a pulling force is applied to cable H8 with the results that auxiliary bowl i! is caused to swing upwardly about pivots I09 to a position uncovering the intake opening and in which position materials may sp ll outwardly therefrom, and when auxiliary bowl llll has been swung to its uppermost limits of movement, main bowl 18 will be caused to tilt upwardly about pivot 8! to a position spilling materials outwardly therefrom.
The bowls i8 and Iii! may then again be disposed in either of the positions of Figures 4 and by suitable manipulation of cables 98 and H11.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that I have exemplified and described such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of my invention as set forth, and what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a mach ne of the character described, a main frame supported adjacent an end thereof tilting movement in a vertical plane, a main howl pivotally supported for vertical tilting movement concentrically about a horizontal pivot fixed said main frame and including a bottom wall. a secondary frame supported adjacent an end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, the free end of said secondary frame being arranged relative to the free end of said main frame and pivotally connected thereto, operatable control means for tilting said main and secondary frames for raising and lowering said bowl. so as to selectively dispose the same in a loadng or a carrying position, and said secondary frame being arranged and adapted to act u on said bowl so as to swing the same about its pivotal mounting in a direction maintaining said bowl bottom in a substantially horizontal position during the tlting movement of said frames.
2. In a machine of the character described, a main frame supported adjacent an end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, a main bowl including a bottom wall, horizontal pivot means supported in fixed position on said main frame and by wh ch said bowl is pivotally connected directly thereto for vertical tilting movement about said pivot means as an axis, a secondary frame supported adjacent an end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, the free end of said secondary frame being arranged relative to the free end of said main frame and pivotally connected. thereto, operatable control means for tilting sad main and secondary frames for raising and lowering said bowl so as to selectively dispose the same in a loading or a carrying position, and means between said secondary frame and said bowl arranged to function in. re-
sponse to the tilting movement of said secondary frame so as to swing said bowl about its pivotal mounting in a direction maintaining said bowl bottom in a substantially horizontal position during the tilting movement of said frames.
3. In a machine of the character described, a main frame supported adjacent an end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, a main bowl pivotally supported adjacent the lower forward end thereof directly on said main frame and including a bottom wall, projecting means carried by said bowl, a secondary frame supported adjacent an end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, the free end of said secondary frame being arranged relative to the free end of said main frame and pivotally connected thereto, operatable control means for tilting said main and secondary frames for raising and lowering said bowl, and said secondary frame being also arranged and adapted to act upon said projecting means so as to swing said bowl about its pivotal mounting in a direction maintaining said bowl bottom in a substantially horizontal position during the tilting movement of said frames.
4. In a machine of the character described, a main frame supported adjacent an end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, a main bowl pivotally supported on said main frame and including a bottom wall, journal means carried by said bowl, roller means carried by said journal means, a secondary frame supported adjacent an end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, the free end of said secondary frame being arranged relative to the free end of said main frame and pivotally connected thereto, operable control means for tilting said main and secondary frames for raising and lowering said bowl, and said secondary frame bein also arranged and adapted to act upon said roller means so as to swing said bowl about its pivotal mounting in a direction maintaining said bowl bottom in a substantially horizontal position during the tilting movement of said frames.
5. In a machine of the character described, a front frame supported adjacent the front end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane. a main bowl including a bottom wall, horizontal pivot means supported in fixed position on said main frame and by which said bowl is pivotally connected directly thereto for vertical tilting movement about said pivot means as an axis, a rear frame supported adjacent the rear end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, the forward end of said rear frame being arranged relative to the rear end of said front frame and pivotally connected to said front frame, o-peratable control means for tilting said front and rear frames for raising and lowering said bowl so as to selectively dspose the same in a loading or carrying position, and said rear frame being also arranged to act upon said bowl so as to swing the same about its pivotal mounting in a direction maintaining sa d bowl bottom in a substantially horizontal position during the tilting movement of said frames.
6, In a machine of the character described, a front frame supported adjacent the front end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane. a main bowl pivotally supported adjacent the lower forward end thereof directly on said front frame and including a bottom wall, projecting means carried by said bowl, a rear frame supported adjacent the rear end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, the forward end of said rear frame being arrangedrelative to the rear end of said front frame and pivotally connected to said front frame operatable control means for tilting said front and rear frames for raising and lowering said bowl so as to selectively dispose the same ina loading or carrying position, and said rearframe being also arranged to act upon said projecting means "so as to swing said bowl about its pivotal mounting in a direction maintaining said bottom wall in a substantially horizontal position during the tilting movement of said frames.
7. In a machine of the character described, a front frame supported adjacent the front end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, a main bowl pivotally supp rted on said front frame and including a bottom wall, journal means carried by said bowl, roller means carried by said journal means, a rear frame supported adjacent the rear end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, the forward end of said rear frame being arranged relative to the rear end of said front frame and pivotally connected to said front frame, operatable control means for tilting said front and rear frames for raising and lowering said bowl so as to selectively dispose the same in a loading or carrying position, and said rear frame being also arranged to act upon said roller means so as to swing said bowl about its pivotal mounting in a direction maintaining said bottom wall in a substantially horizontal position during the tilting movement of said frames. r H

In a machine of the character described, a rear frame supported adjacent the rear end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, a main bowl pivotally supported adjacent the lower front end thereof directly on said rear frame and including a bottom wall, a front frame supported adjacent the front end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, the rear end of said front frame being arranged relative to the front end of said rear frame and pivotally connected to said rear frame, operatable control means for tilting said frontand rear frame for raising andlowering said bowl so as to selectively dispose the same in a loading or carrying position, and operatable means between said front frame and said bowl arranged to function in response to the tilting movement of said front frame so as to swing said bowl about its pivotal mounting in a direction maintaining said bowl bottom in a substantially horizontal position during the tilting movement of said frames.

In a machine of the character described, a rear frame supported adjacent the rear end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, a main bowl including a bottom wall, horizontal pivot means supported in fixedposition on said main frame and by which said bowl is pivotally connected directly thereto for vertical tilting movement about said pivot means as an axis,
projecting means carried by said bowl, a front frame supported adjacent the front end thereof for tilting movement in vertical plane, the rear end of said front frame being arranged relative to the front end of said rear frame and pivotally connected to said rear frame, operatable control means for tilting said front and rear frames for raising and lowering said bowl so as to selectively dispose the same in a loading or carrying position and link means between said front frame and said projection means arranged to function in response to the tilting movement of said front frame so as to swingsaid bowl about its pivotal mounting in a direction maintaining said bottom wall in a substantially horizontallposition during the tilting movement of'said frames.

In a machine of the character described, a rear frame supported adjacent the rear end thereof for tilting movement in a'vertical plane, a main bowl pivotally supported on said rear frame and including a bottom wall, journal means carried by said bowl, roller means carried by said journal means, a front frame supported adjacent the front endthereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, the rear end of said front frame being arranged relative to the front end of said rear frame and pivotally connected to said rear frame,'operatable control means for tilting said front and rear frames for raising and lowering said bowl so as to selectively dispose the same in a loading or carrying position, and link means carried by said front frame and engaging said roller means so as to function in response to the swinging movement of said front frame for swinging said bowl about its pivotal mounting in a direction maintaining said bottom. wall in a substantially horizontal position during the tilting movement of'said frames. fl j 11. In a machine of the character described, a main frame supported adjacent an endflthereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, a secondary frame supported adjacent an end thereof for tilting movement'in avertical plane, the free end of said secondary frame being arranged relative to the free end" of said main frame and pivotally connected thereto so that both said frames may freely tilt upwardly and downwardly at their adjacentends, a main said bowl bottom in a substantially horizontal position during the frames. 1

In a machine of the characterldescribed, a main frame supported adjaceritjan end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane,'a secondary. frame s'upportedgadjacent an 'end thereof for tilting movement a vertical plane, the free end of said secondary framebeing arrangedfrelative to the free end of [said main frame and pivotally connected thereto" "so that both said frames mayfreely tilt upwardly and downwardly at their adjacent ends, afmainbcwl including a bottom wall, pivot' means supported in fixed position on oneof' said frames 'and by whichsaid bowl ispivotally connected directly thereto for, tilting movement about a horizontal axis, ,loperable control means for tilting said frames for raising andlowering said bowl so as to selectively dispose the same in a loading or a carrying position, the other of said frames being arranged and adapted to act upon said bowl so as to tilt the same in a direction maintaining said bowl bottom in a substantially horizontal position in both loading and carrying positions of said bowl.
13. In a machine of the character described,
tilting movement of: said a rear frame, rear wheels supporting the same adjacent the rear end thereof for vertical tilting movement about said wheels as an axis, a front frame disposed forwardly of said rear frame and supported adjacent the forward end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, the adjacent free ends of said frames being relatively arranged and pivotally connected so that both said frames may freely tilt upwardly and downwardly at their adjacent ends, a main bowl arranged forwardly of said rear wheels and including a bottom wall, pivot means supported in fixed position on one of 'said frames and by which said bowl is pivotally connected directly thereto for tilting'movement about a horizontal axis, operable control means for tilting said frames for raising and lowering said bowl so as to dispose the same in a loading or a carrying position, the other of said frames being arranged and adapted to act upon said bowl so as to tilt the same in a direction maintaining said bowl bottom in a substantially horizontal position during the tilting movement of said frames.

In a machine of the character described, a rear frame, rear wheels supporting the same adjacent the rear end thereof for vertical tilting movement about said wheels as an axis, a front frame disposed forwardly of said rear frame and supported adjacent the forward end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, the adjacent free ends of said frames being relatively arranged and pivotally connected so that both said frames may freely tilt upwardly and downwardly at their adjacent ends, a mainbowl arranged forwardly of said rear wheels and including a bottom wall, means pivotally supporting said bowl adjacent the lower forward end thereof on one of said frames for vertical tilting movement about a horizontal axis, operable control means applied to said frames for tilting the same for raising and lower said bowl so as to selectively dispose said bowl in a loading or a carrying position, the other of said frames being arranged and adapted to act upon said bowl so as to tilt the same about its pivotal support in a direction maintaining said bowl bottom in a substantially horizontal position in both loading and carrying positions of said bowl.
15. In a machine'of the character described, a rear frame, rear wheels supporting the same adjacent the rear end thereof for vertical tilting movement about'said rear wheels as an axis, a
front frame disposed forwardly of said rear frame and supported adjacent the forward end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, the adjacent free ends of said frames being relatively arranged and pivotally connected so that both .said frames may freely tilt upwardly and downwardly at their adjacent ends, a main bowl arranged forwardly of said rear wheels and includ-v ing a bottom wall, pivot means supported in fixed position on one of said frames and by which said bowl is pivotally connected adjacent the lower frames for raising and lowering said bowl so as to selectively dispose the same in a loading or a carrying position, the other of said frames being arranged and adapted to act upon said bowl so as to tilt the same about its pivotal support in a direction maintaining said bowl bottom in a substantially horizontal position in both loading and carrying positions of said bowl.
16. In a machine of the character described, a rear frame, rear wheels supporting said rear frame adjacent the rear end thereof for vertical tilting movement about said rear wheels as an axis, a front frame disposed forwardly of said rear frame and supported adjacent the forward end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, the free ends of said frames being relatively arranged and pivotally connected so that both said frames may freely tilt upwardly and downwardly at their adjacent ends, a main bowl pivotally supported adjacent the lower forward end thereof on one of said frames forwardly of said rear wheels so as to be raised and lowered therewith as said frames tilt to dispose said bowl in a loading or a carrying position, said bowl being operable to discharge material therefrom directly onto the ground, bowl adjusting means between the other of said frames and said bowl arranged to act upon said bowl so as to tilt the same in a direction maintaining said bowl in a substantially horizontal position in both loading and carrying positions of said bowl, said bowl adjusting means being adapted to permit free operation of said bowl to discharge materials ex: clusive of the tilting movement of said frames, frame control means for tilting said frames, and other control means applied to said bowl and adapted to operate exclusive of said frame control means to control the dischargings of said bowl.
17 In a machine of the character described, a rear frame, rear wheels supporting said frame adjacent the rear end thereof for vertical tilting movement about said wheels as an axis, a front frame disposed forwardly of said rear frame and supported adjacent the forward end thereof for tilting movement in a vertical plane, the adjacent free ends of said frames being relatively arranged and pivotally connected so that both said frames may freely tilt upwardly and downwardly at their adjacent ends, a main bottom arranged forwardly of said rear wheels, pivot means supported in fixed position on one of said frames and by which said bottom is pivotally connected adjacent an end thereof directly to said one of said frames for vertical tilting movement about said pivot means as an axis, operable control means for tilting said frames for raising and forward end thereof directly to said one of said frames for tilting movement about a horizontal axis, operable control means for tilting, said lowering said bowl so as to dispose the same in a loading or a carrying position, and means between the other of said frames and said bottom arranged and adapted to act upon said bottom so as to tilt the same in a direction maintaining said bottom in a substantially horizontal position in both loading and carrying positions of said bottom.
