4 Claims.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in les and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device comprising a novel construction and arrangement whereby diierent sizes of ampoules may be rapidly notched or cut circumferentially to facilitate the breaking thereof.
Other objects of the invention are to provide an ampoule notching or grooving tool of the aforementioned character which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly ecient and reliable in use, compact, and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specication, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding aparts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a tool constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing the device in use.
Figure 2 is a view in side elevation of the device.
Figure 3 is a plan view.
Figure 4 is a view in edge elevation.
Figure 5 is an elevational view of the `abrasive element.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises an abrasive element in the form of a substantially rectangular sheet I of rubberized carborundum or other suitable material. The abrasive sheet I has formed in its end portions substantially V-shaped notches or recesses 2 of different sizes. The walls of the notches 2 are tapered in a manner to provide cutting edges 3.
In Figure 1 of the drawing, a conventional ampoule is shown at l. When using the device, the ampoule 1 is engaged in the crotch of one of the notches 2 and spun or rotated on the cutting edges 3 of the abrasive sheet I. Thus, the ampoule 'I is rapidly notched or grooved circumferentially as at 8 to facilitate breaking said ampoule. Of course, the rivets 5 pass through the abrasive sheet I for positively securing the same in position between the metallic plates 4.
It is believed that the many advantages of a le constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A le of the character described comprising an abrasive sheet having substantially V-shaped notches therein, and plates mounted on the opposite sides of the sheet and having substantially V-shaped notches therein aligned with the firstnamed notches, the aligned notches [for the reception of an article to be led.
2. A iile of the character described comprising an abrasive sheet having substantially V-shaped notches therein for rotatably receiving an article to be led, and plates mounted on the opposite sides of the abrasive sheet and having substantially V-shaped notches therein registering with the first-named notches, the walls of said firstnamed notches being tapered and projecting into the second-named notches. i
3. A file comprising an abrasive sheet having a notch therein for rotatably receiving an article to be filed, plates mounted on opposite sides of the sheet and having notches therein aligned with the first-named notch, the second-named notches being larger than the rst-named notch for exposing the walls of said rst-named notch.
4. A le of the character described comprising a substantially rectangular abrasive sheet having substantially V-shaped notches of diierent sizes in its end portions, said notches for rotatably receiving different sizes of articles to be led, the walls of the notches being tapered for providing cutting edges, metallic plates mounted on opposite sides of the abrasive sheet, and rivets securing the plates in position, said rivets passing through the abrasive sheet, said plates haivng substantially V-shaped notches therein aligned With the first-named notches but larger than said first-named notches for exposing the tapered walls thereof.
