CABLE CONNECTOR Filed April 1, 1940 lN-VENTOR.
CVaz/de E550 wens ATTORNEY.
BY "WQW Patented Apr. 6, 1943 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CABLE CONNECTOR Claude E. Bowers, Los Angeles, Calif. Application April 1, 1940, Serial No. 327,227
2 Claims.
My invention relates to'a cable connector, and the objects of my invention are:
First, to provide a cable connector of this class the body of which is formed from one. piece of fiat sheet metal;
Second, to provide a cable connector of this class which is exceedingly yieldable, strong and unbreakable;
Third, to provide a cable connector or this class which is so arranged that it will maintain a very secure hold on a cable positioned therein;
Fourth, to provide a cable connector of this class which is very neat, compact and easy to install;
Fifth, to provide a cable connector of this class which is provided with side wall openings therein for suitable visibility, when positioning the end of a cable therein;
Sixth. to provide a cable connector of this class which is very simple construction, eflicient, durable and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order;
Seventh, to provide a novel cable connecto1'.-
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinaftenmy invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which:
Figure l is a side elevational view of my cable have provided a with the cable A shift connector shown connected with a portion of an outlet box and a conventional cable showing the outlet box by dash lines and the cable by solid lines; Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken from the line 2-4 of Fig. 1 showing the cable by dash lines; Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken from the line 3-3 of Fig. 1 showing the cable by dash lines; Fig. 4 is a side elevational view of my cable connector shown at a right angle to that of Fig. l of the drawing; and Fig. 5 is a sectional view of my cable connector taken from the line 5-4 of Fig. 1 omitting the cable and outlet box as shown in Fig. l of the drawing.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawing.
In the formation of my cable connector, I
one piece cable connector memprovided with a hollow screw threaded portion la on its one end and integral clamp portions lb on its opposite end. It will be noted that these clamp portions lb are integral with a segment portion id which is integral with the screw threaded portion la. These clamp portions lb are arranged in opposed relation to each other as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing and are arranged to be iorced together by means of the screw 2. It will be noted that these clamp portions lb when adjusted relatively in concentric relation with the screw threaded portion la and the cable A, as shown best in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing. Integral with the screw threaded portion la are segment portions l e and If. These segment portions le and If are substantially the same dimensions as the segment portion Id which is integral with the clamp portions lb. Intermediate the segment portions ld, le and If are open spaces lg which provide visibility when inserting the cable A into the cable connector so that ber l which is have provided a shoulder portion lh which is arranged to abut against the outlet box K as shown by dash lines in Fig. 1 01 the drawing when the nut 3 is screw threaded on the screw threaded portion la and is engaging the opposite side of the outlet box portion from the shoulder portion .l h, all as shown best in Fig. 1 of the drawing. It-will be noted that the side edges of the clamp portions lb are positioned in slightly spaced relation from the end portions I or the drawing. This provides an unobstructed adjustable movement of the clamp portions 'lb in their relation to each the screw 2 is tightened forcing said clamp portions lb into secure engagement with the cable A at the opposite sides thereof. It will be noted that the end portions lie of one of the clamp members lb is internally screw threaded and k arranged to engage the outer screw threads on the screw 2, as shown best'in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing.
Though I have shown and described a par- 'a cable connector member provided with the combination of a plurality of curved in cross section longitudinally disposed widely spaced segment portions in alignment with the longitudinal axis of said cable connector and opposed clamp portions integral with one of said segment portions.
, nation and arrangement, but desire to include 2. In a cable connector of the class described,
' a cable connector member provided with the combination of a plurality of curved in cross segment portions in alignment with the longitudinal axis of said cable connector and opposed clamp portions integral with one of said segment portions, said clamp portions in transverse slightly spaced relation-from the ends of the other segment portions and in'alignment-therewith, said cable connector member provided with a plurality oi! relatively wide openingstherein intermediate said segment portions and communicating with said clamp portions.
