G. A. WELLS. Flour Sifter.
Patented Aug. 17, i880 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE A. WELLS, OF OSKALOOSA, IOWA.
FLOUR-SIFTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 231,382, dated August 1'7, 1880.
Application filed July 16, 1880.
To all whom at may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. WELLs, of Oskaloosa, in the county of Mahaska and State of Iowa, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Flour-Sifters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of .this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-section, and Fig. 4 is a bottom plan.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters of reference.
This invention relates to floursieves or sifters; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims. I
In the drawings hereto annexed, A represents a rectangular frame, made by preference of tin or other sheet metal, although other material may be employed when so desired. The lower edges of the sides of said frame are provided with shoulders B, turned inward toward each other, and having outturned flanges G, by which outward-facin g grooves D are formed at the lower edges of the sides of the frame, as shown.
The front and rear lower edges of the frame are provided with forward-projecting shoulders E E, having rearward-projecting flanges F F, by which rearward-facing grooves G G are formed.
The sides of frame A are provided with perforations to receive the ends of a bail, H, extending transversely under the frame, as shown, to support the screen or sifter I. The latter consists of a rectangular frame having netting J clamped or otherwise secured to its edges.
The sides of the sifter-frame I are provided (No model.)
with upward and inward turned flanges K, and the rear edge with an upward and forward turned flange, L. The flanges K engage the grooves D upon frame A, upon which the sifting-frame may thus he slid and secured. The front edge of the latter enters groove G, and the flange L the groove G of frame A, as shown.
Upon its under side the sitter-frame is provided with a longitudinal wire brace, M, supported, in practice, upon the bail or brace H of frame A.
By this invention the sifter may be readily detached from the box-frame for cleansing or other purposes.
In the manner shown an absolutely tight joint is formed between the two frames, and the construction is simple, inexpensive, and durable.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States 1. As an improvement in flour-sitters, the combination, with a frame the sides of which have inturned shoulders with outturned flanges, and the lower front and rear edges of which have forward-turned shoulders with
