F|G:-1- c WITNESSES INVENTOR @I m. 5241 171014. @axfl Q\\\$Q\\ "PETERS, PHOKJ-LITNOGRAFHER WASHINGTON 0 c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PAUL HIE KISOH, OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS.
VAPOR-BURNER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 231,224, dated August 17, 1880.
Application filed J une 17, 1880.
all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL HIEKISOH, a resident of the city of Decatur, county of Macon, and State of Illinois, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Vapor-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in an improved arrangement of the generator with reference to the flame, and in other minor details.
In the drawings accompanying andformin g a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a sectional view of my device, taken vertically, in which A represents a chimney flaring toward the top, provided with dish-shaped extension A and cover B.
G is a vapor-generator projecting into chimney A, as shown, in order to come in contact with the flame.
G is the oil'pipe 5 E, a rod to regulate the flame; c, the burner-orifice; b, a rod acting as a pivot to allow cover B to swing to one side when it is desirable to keep the flame undivided.
e e and ff represent series of openings extending entirely around A and 13, their functions being to diffuse the heat.
It will be noticed that openings 6 e are given a downward inclination. This direction of the flame causes it to become more speedily oxy- (No model.)
genized, thereby increasing the quality of the flame.
In Fig. 2, which shows my device from below, a. a are openings that allow the escape of flame on generator 0, thereby assisting in the formation of vapor.
In operation the fluid is fed in through G, and is permitted to escape through 0, until receptacle D is partly filled, when a match is applied. As the fluid in D burns up around cit generates vapor, which, passing up through A, heats generator 0, thereby vaporizing its contents. At this stage no more fluid is permitted to escape, as the vapor consumed is constantly generating more to take its place.
I claim as new and of my invention- 1. The combination, in a vapor-burner, of burner-orifice c, regulating-rod E, chimney A, generator 0, dished extension A, and cover B, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a vapor-burner, dished extension A, provided with openings e, in combination with cover B, provided with openings ff, and constructed and arranged and pivoted at b, as and for the purpose set forth.
PAUL HIEKISGH.
