In that type of wringer wherein the upper roller is urged down upon the lower roller by means of a spring carried by the detachable head or top bar of the frame and the top bar is held in operative position by mechanism which is quickly releasable in case of accident, sudden release of the spring pressure upon the top roller is often accompanied by an upward jump of the upper roller bearings out of the channeled end standards of the base frame.
The object of my present invention is to provide simple, yet efficient, means for snubbing the upper roller hearings when the main spring pressure is suldenly released.
The accompanying drawing illustrates my invention.
Fig. 1 is a medial vertical section showing a wringer embodying one form of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective in partial section of the construction shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary vertical sectional detail of a modified form of snubber; and
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary perspective in partial section of the form shown in Fig. 3.
In the drawing It indicates the main base frame having vertically channeled end standards II in which the bearing blocks l2, 12 for the upper roller l3 are slidably mounted. The blocks 12 are urged downwardly by the spring [4 which is carried by the top bar [5 of the frame, said top bar, in the present instance, being anchored at one end on the pin l6 and provided at the other end with quick release mechanism Q of well known form.
Thus far, the mechanism illustrated is well known and is merely illustrative of any one of a number of forms. In Fig. 1 snubbing of the bearing block 12 is accomplished by means of a friction spring 20 anchored at 2| Within the channeled end standard I I with its free end frictionally engaging the outer axial face of bearing block l2 and frictionally holding said block against the inturned flanges ll of the channeled standard I I.
In Figs. 3 and 4 frictional snubbing of the bearing block I2 is obtained by means of the U-shaped spring 22 attached at 23 to the lower end of block l2 with its spring arms 22, 22 lying between the side Walls ll" of standard H and frictionally engaging said side walls.
In either form of structure, the spring 28 or 22 is of sufficient strength to frictionally initially impede upward movement of the bearing block l2 to prevent it from jumping out of the end standard when spring 14 is suddenly released.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a wringer comprising a base frame having vertically channeled end standards having upwardly open bearing block guides, a top bar releasably associated with the base frame, a pair of wringer rolls and bearing blocks for the upper of said rolls vertically slidable in the guides of the end standards of the base; a friction spring interposed between each of said bearing blocks and an inner wall of a guide of the base frame in position to frictionally impede ejection of the bearing blocks from the open guides.
2. A structure of the character described in claim 1, the friction spring being anchored within the channeled end standard of the base with its free end frictionally engaging the upper roll bearing block.
3. In a wringer of the character described in claim 1, bearing blocks for the upper roller each provided with spring fingers flanking the vertical sides of the block and frictionally engaging inner walls of the upwardly-open guides to impede ejection of the bearing blocks from their guides.
4. As an article of manufacture, a bearing block for upper rollers of wringers of the type having open-ended vertical bearing block guides, comprising a main body perforated to receive the trunnion of a wringer roller and carrying a spring interposable between the block and an inner vertical wall of an end standard of a wringer base frame in such manner as to frictionally impede ejection of the bearing block from its guide.
