Description
Jan. 12, 1943. O,
DEVICEZFQR nmwme oF wsms Filed Aug. 9, 1940 2 Sheets-Sheet l Oscar Warm Patented Jan. 12, 1943 UNITED STATES rant" Fl C Oscar Worm, Chemnitz, Germany; vested in the Alien Property Custodian Application August 9, 1940, Serial No. 352,031 In Germany August 9, 1939 3 Claims.
The present invention relates to a device used on fiat knitting machines for drawing off welts.
In a known device in which the welt bars are commonly connected to the drawing off elements a first system of drawing ofi straps provided with hooks holding the welt bars and a second system of straps for returning the hooks into the position ready for receiving the welt bars are provided in a manner known per se. This second system of straps is connected to the first system of straps in such a manner that on winding up of the second system of straps the first system of straps is unwound or vice versa.
During the entire drawing off period resistances of the second system of straps used for returning the hooks into the position ready for receiving the welt bars are to be overcome, whereby the sensitivity of the draw off or take up is disadvantageously influenced.
This drawback is obviated in accordance with the invention by the fact that for commonly connecting all the welt bars to the drawing off apparatus, independent endless chains with hooks are used to bring the hooks of the drawing off system of straps into the position ready for receiving the welt bars.
In the accompanying drawings some constructions of devices according to the invention are shown by way of example.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the entire drawing oif apparatus in the starting position for returning the hooks of the system of straps into the position ready for receiving the welt bars,
Fig. 2 also is a side elevation showing the individual elements of the device in an intermediate position during the return movement of the hooks,
Fig. 3 is a detail view, showing the hooks for holding the welt bar in the end position,
Figs. 4 to 6 are detail views of the means for returning the hooks receiving the welt bars in which Fig. 4 shows the return movement of the hooks receiving the welt bars arranged at a separate system of straps in each division,
Fig. 5 is a section on line VV of Fig. 4,
Fig. 6 shows the return movement of the hooks receiving the welt bar arranged at a system of straps in each division connected together by a bar, and Fig. 7 is a detail sectional perspective View of a fiat knitting machine having the invention applied thereto.
At the ends of each division of a knitting machine guide rollers II and 5 are mounted upon shafts I and 2 respectively extending over the entire length of the machine, whereas at each end of each division a sprocket wheel 6 is fixed to a shaft 3 also extending over the entire length of the machine. Endless chains I pass round the sprocket wheels 6 and the corresponding guide rollers 4 and 5. The rollers 4 and 5- are rotatably mounted upon the shafts I and 2 respectively, whereas the sprocket wheels 6 are fixed to the shaft 3. Hooks 8 are fixed to the chains I.
Fixed to the shaft 9 of the fabric roller, also extending over the entire length of the knitting machine and in parallel to the shafts I, 2 and 3, are fabric rollers I I one for each division of the machine which in a well known manner are provided with drawing ofi straps I0. carry hooks I2 for receiving the welt bars I3 shown in Fig. 3. The two hooks I2 provided in each division of the machine either are arranged at members I4 separated from each other or may be connected together by means of a bar I5. Each of the members I4 of the hooks I2 separated from each other is provided with an eye or a stirrup I6 as shown in Fig. 4, and each of the bars I5 of the hooks I2 connected to each other is provided with recesses II into which the hooks 8 of the chains I may engage as is shown in Fig. 6.
The operation of the device according to the invention is as follows:
After removal of the finished stocking legs which in a manner known per se are wound upon a fabric roller II, the latter are rotated in such a manner that the drawing off straps III occupy the position shown in Fig. 1 in which they are suspended downwardly. The chains I together with their hooks 8 are also brought into the position shown in Fig. 1.
By rotating shaft 3 and therewith the sprocket wheels 6 in an anti-clockwise direction, the hooks 8 of each of the chains I drop into the corresponding eyes or stirrups It as shown in Fig. 4 or into the corresponding recesses II of the bar I5 connecting the hooks I2 as illustrated in Fig. 6 respectively and carry with them the hooks I2. Hereby the drawing oif straps l0 connected to the hooks I2 also are moved and brought first into the position shown in Fig. 2 and then into the final position illustrated in Fig. 3 which latter represents the position ready for receiving the welt bars l3. Thereupon the chains I are returned into their starting position shown in Fig. 1.
To obtain a better guidance of the drawing 01f The latter I straps I!) the fabric rollers H may be provided with corresponding incisions or notches.
What I claim is:
1. In a device used on flat knitting machines for drawing ofi welts, a fabric shaft, fabric rollers mounted on said fabric shaft, a system of straps for drawing off welt bars connected to .each of said fabric rollers, hooks adapted to receive said welt bars carried by said system for drawing oiT welt bars, endless chains operating independently on said drawing off device for connecting all said welt bars to said drawing oif device, and hooks provided at said endless chains, said hooks returning said hooks adapted to receive said welt bars carried by said system 15 of straps for drawing off welt bars into the position ready for receiving said welt bars.
2. A device as set forth in claim 1 in which said hooks of said system of straps for drawing ofi welt bars are provided at members carrying eyes into which engage said hooks provided at said endless chains.
3. A device as set forth in claim 1 in which said hooks of said system of straps for drawing off welt bars are provided at a bar connecting said hooks, said connecting bar being provided with recesses into which engage said hooks of said endless chains.
