2 Claims.

This invention relates generally to placket openings for garments, but more specifically to means for closing such openings by application of cooperating tape members to the placket edges. 6

The main object of the invention resides in the provision of cooperating tape members adapted to be secured to placket edges of a garment, the said tape members carrying non-metallic engageable elements to effectuate a concealed closure for the placket opening.

A further object of the invention resides in the provision of concealed non-metallic closure means for placket openings in garments which lends flexibility in all directions in this region of the garment, which is non-corrosive to perspiration and to cleaning and washing fluids, which is economical to apply, efllcient in operation and flat in appearance.

These objects and other incidental ends and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear in the progress of the disclosure and as pointed out in the appended claims.

Accompanying this specification is a drawing showing a preferred embodiment of the invention wherein corresponding reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:

Figure 1 is a front view in perspective showing the closure means applied to a placket opening of a dress.

Figure 2 is a front view in perspective showing similar closure means applied to a placket opening of a skirt.

Figure 3 is a partial front view in elevation showing the closure means applied to the placket edges of the dress of Figure 1, the said view having portions broken away. v

Figure 4 is a sectional view of Figure 3 through the plane 4-4 thereof.

' Dress A shown in Figure '1 is provided with a conventional placket opening C at the waist portion formed between panels l and M, the overlapping placket edges being designated by numerals Illa and [4a respectively; Secured to the underside of placket edge lfla, as by line of stitching I2, is a longitudinal strip member ll of any suitable non-metallic material such as cloth, canvas, goods of the same material as the dress, or the like, having a series of spaced engaging members such as buttonholes l3 running along the length thereof.

Strip member II is adapted to be engaged between the inner faces oiopposite similar superposing strip members I5 and I6 joined at the outer edges to the underside of panel II, as by a line of stitching H, the forward edge of the upper strip l6 also being secured to the underside of panel l4 adjacent placket edge Ila as by a line of stitching l8. Lower strip I5 is provided with a series of spaced cooperating engaging members such as non-metallic buttons Hi to register with buttonholes l3.

In this manner, upper strip l'6 serves as a covering wall for the engagement of strip II with strip I5 by detachable fastening means comprising buttonholes l3 and buttons IS. The strips ll, 15 and I6 at the upper and lower edges are secured to panels l0 and [4 by common lines of transverse stitching such as 20 and 2 I, the said stitching being disposed above and below the placket opening C. a

The invention above described is applicable to garments wherein the placket opening proceeds from the waistband of a garment downwardly as in the case of a skirt shown in Figure 2. Where applied to the placket of a skirt, strip l l is free at the upper transverse edge and forms a continuation with the upper edge of the waistband 22, but strips l5 and I6 may be secured to-,

By the use of engageable strip members with non-metallic fastening means as described, a placket closure for conventional placket edges is attained which is flat, neat, economical'to apply, flexible, non-corrosive and concealed, and may be applicable to any type of garment.

I wish it understood that minor changes and variations in the material, location, integration and size of parts used, may all be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a placket opening for a garment, a longitudinal strip member projecting from and secured to oneplacket edge, a pair of opposite,

superposing and similar strip members extending inwardly from the other placket edge and engaging the first mentioned strip member both being secured to the garment at the edges distant from the other placket edge, and one of the pair of the. strip members being secured to and adjacent the said other placket edge.

2. In a placket opening for a garment, a longitudinal strip member projecting fromand secured on one placket edge, a pair of opposite, superposing and similar strip members extending inwardly from the other placket edge and engaging the first mentioned strip member both being secured to the garment at the edges distant from the other placket edge and one of the pair of the strip members being secured to and adjacent the said other placket edge, cooperating members between said strip members for detachable fasteriing thereof.
