invention consists in a new and useful improvement in explosive containers, and is designed more particularly to provide a container for non-water proof high explosives to be insorted into a bore in the ground under conditions in which the bore becomes clogged or crowded by unstable matter, such as sand, gravel or muck flowing into the bore, and also where the container is subjected to high head pressure under long columns of water. The peculiarly novel and useful feature of my improved container is the peculiar form and character of the closure plates and their application to the tubular member. 1
While I have illustrated in the drawings filed herewith and have hereinafter fully described one specific embodiment of my invention, it is to be distinctly understood that I do not consider my invention limited to said specific emjbodiment, but refer for its scope to the claim appended hereto.

improved container consists of the body portion formed by the outer tube A and the inner tube B, and the two end closures C and D. I produce the outer tube A by rolling a continuous web l of fiber board coated with a suitable adhesive t, to iorm a roll of suitable diameter, formed of five layers of fiber board, with the outer longitudinal seam i-a. I produce the inner tube B by superimposing a series of spirally wound layers, two of fiber board, and two of nitro-cellulose sheets, alternated. I so arrange these layers that the innermost layer 3 is a sheet of intro-cellulose. This layer 3 is coated with a layer of suitable adhesive d and a layer of fiber board 5 is superimposed. The layer 5 is coated with a layer of adhesive 6, and a layer of nitrocellulose ll is superimposed. The layer l is coated with a layer of adhesive a and a layer of fiber board is superimposed. It is to be noted that the meeting edges of each layer abut and do not overlap, and that these meeting edges 3a, 5-a, l-a and 9-11 are in staggered relation.
When the inner tube l3has been thus fabricated, the outer layer 9 thereof is covered with a coating of adhesive l0 and the inner tube B is introduced into the outer tube A, the layer of adhesive ill acting to unite the tubes A and B.
The closure 0 comprises an orificed end plate Ci fixed on the body of the container, and a removable cap 0-2 therefor. The plate Cl comprises an annulus ll havingthe inner peripheral flange l2 and the outer peripheral flange l3 having an annulus It with a flange l5 having an inwardly turned lip I6. The cap C-Z comprises the plate and its peripheral flange l8 turned upon itself to form the outer flange IS. The plate CI is applied to one end of the body of the container so that the tubes A and B are closely confined between the flanges I3 and i5, their ends abutting the annulus it. When the plate Cl has been thus applied, the lip I6 is forced inwardly into the outer surface of the tube A, thus securely locking the plate Cl upon the body, to form a thoroughly water proof juncture between the body and the plate C-l. After the container has been charged with the explosive,'the cap C2 is applied, the flanges l8 and i9 embracing the flange [2. It is to be understood that the plate C-l and the cap 0-2 are so designed and related that the resilient flanges l2 and I8 and I9 are caused to be in intimate contact when the cap 0-2 is applied, to effect a water proofjuncture between the plate CI and the cap C-2. Also it is to be noted that the flanges l2, l8 and H are so designed that the cap C-2 is received entirely within the end plate C-l, so that the annulus It forms an unobstructed end surface of the container.
The closure D comprises an orificed end plate D-I fixed on the body of the container and a chamber D 2 so fixed upon the plate D-l as to extend within the container when the plate Dl is applied to the end of the body of the container, to serve as a receptacle for the detonator of the explosive within the container. The plate Dl comprises an annulus 20 having an outer peripheral'flange 2i having an annulus 22 with a flange 23 having an inwardly turned lip 24. The chamber D2 is formed at one end with a pair of outer peripheral flanges 25 and 26 between which is embraced the inner edge of the annulus 20, the juncture being such that a water proof joint between the plate D-l and chamber D-2 is effected. The plate Dl is applied to the end of the body of the container so that the tubes A and B are closely confined between the flanges 2| and 2%, their ends abutting the annulus 22. When the plate D-l has been thus applied, the lip 214i is forced inwardly into the outer surface of the tube A, thus securely locking the plate D-l upon the body to form a thoroughly water proof juncture between the body and the plate D-l.
After the container has been charged and sealed as above described it receives a thorough coating 27 of a water proof material such as paraflin.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
mobiles In an explosive container, the combination of a tubular body; a closure plate comprising an annulus having an inner peripheral flange and an outer peripheral flange having extending therefrom an annulus with an outer peripheral flange; and a removable cover comprising a circular disk and a peripheral flange doubled upon itself to form a second outer peripheral flange,
between which the inner flange on the closure plate is received, the parts being so designed and related that when the cover is applied to the closure plate, the entire cover is recessed within the end of the container formed by the closure plate.
