The present invention relates to building construction and more particularly to the method and means for the renovation of the exterior. of an old building and to the construction of facades in relation to original standing walls. It is quite common practice in this respect to face the front of an existing Wall of wood or stone or other material with a new wall or facade, and to secure the two together. I
The present invention relates particularly to "the means and method whereby a stone, granite or other type of block wall may be faced to an original wall and locked in place or position. 1
In the present invention the looking or positioning means is such that accurate drilling of holes 1 in the old wall or new wall is not necessary and regardless of th alignment of the old and new walls, the adjustment may be applied easily and readily without accurate planning, drilling or location either of the blocks of the new wall or their relation to the old wall.
In construction where a facade is to be placed before an old wall, it frequently happens that the old wall is not true or straight and for this reason great diiiiculty would be encountered in looking the new wall to the old wall where no allowance was provided in adjustment or location of the holding means. readily overcome. Regardless of the irregularity in the old wall, the two walls can easily be secured together by the means and methods described in the specification below. 1 In this connection refer ence will be made to the drawing inwhich:

In Figure 1 the 01d wall is represented by the numeral I, which is shown of brick, but may be of any other type of material as has already been. mentioned above.
The new wall in Figure l is shown in block form, although the invention applies to any other type cesses or holes 4 each of which receives one or, more individual holding plates which project into the recesses in thesame manner as shown in Figure 2, the angle 28 always being set to bear against the inner side of the recess 4 which is filled up with mortar, cement or other binding material as *indicatedby 22 in Figure 2 after the holding plate is adjusted in position. The upward vertical projecting portion 6 of the plate 2| is provided with an elongated rectangular slot 1 through which a clamping bolt 9 having a bolt head H extends. This clamping-bolt 9 threads into the expansion socket 8 positioned in the old wall I. The bolt 9 is threaded practically its whole length, or at least suflicient to provide two clamping nuts l0 and I3 respectively, (see Figure 2) which can be drawn tightly against opposite sides of the vertical extension 6 of the clamping plate 21.
In the present invention this is of wall as well and may be constructed of concrete, cement, granite, stone or other type of ma: terial preferably built up in block form in which the blocks are preferably bonded by mortar or other suitable cementing means. In this connection it should be noted that the recess 0r groove 4 permits adjustment of the coupling means lengthwise of the block, that the threads on the bolt 9 and the clamping nuts !0 and I3 permit transverse adjustment of the clamping means and the slot 1 permits vertical adjustment of the clamping or coupling means. The horizontal arm 5 of the clamping plate 2| is made long enough so that for all adjustments of the bolt 9 in the expansion socket 8, the bolt head i i will clear the back surface 24 of the wall.
In the use of the device the blocks 3 with the rectangular recesses 4 already cut and molded therein are located or laid on the new wall. The
expansion socket 8 is fixed in the old well in approximately the correct position but without accurate adjustment. 'I'he angle 20 of the clamping plate 2| is then placed in the recess 4 and adjusted in its three dimensions, laterally by the position of the clamping plate in the slot, transversely by the nuts [0 and i3 and vertically by the position of the bolt 9 in the slot I until the block 3 is held firmly and locked in its chosen position to the wall I.
After this the mortar 22 is then put in the recess 4 to fill up the entire space and cover the surface of the block preparatory to setting the next block 23 as shown in Figure 2. More than one coupling joint may be used for each block if desired and each block in each row may be anchored to the old wall, or if desired the anchor may be placed only in place where needed.
Having now described my invention, I claim:
1. In a building construction in combination with a standing Wall, a facade or facing built up of wall elements placed vertically one on top of the other, said wall elements having recesses on their top faces, and a coupling piece having one end formed to fit in said recess and adjustable therein longitudinally of said facade, said cou pling piece at its other end extending parallel to the facade, up and down, and having means cooperating therewith and adjustable normally of said facade for anchoring the same in said standing wall and further means formed in said coupling piece for permitting vertical adjustment of said anchoring means.
2. In a building construction in combination 1 with'a standing wall, a facade or facing built up of wall elements placed vertically one on top of the other, said elements having rectangular recesses on their top faces, a clamping piece having an angular element extending into said rectangular recess and adjustable longitudinally therein, said clamping piece extending vertically upward from said angle elements and being provided with a slot therein, means passing through said slot and adjustable normally of said facade and means fixed in said standing wall for receiving said last named means.

In a building construction in combination with a standing wall, a facade or facing built up of wall elements placed vertically one on top of the other, said wall elements having recesses on their top faces, a clamping piece having a horizontal portion resting on said top face and a vertical portion fitted into said recess, said recess being larger than said piece fitting into it for allowing longitudinal adjustment of said piece with respect to said Wall, said clamping piece having a vertical portion extending from said horizontal portion and means adjustable vertically in said vertical portion for anchoring the same to said standing Wall.
4. In a building construction, means for anchoring two walls together including an anchor socket, a bolt threading therein having clamping nutspositioned on either side of a plate element, an angle element including one arm thereof forming the plate element through which the anchor bolt is positioned, said angle element having a flange at the end thereof adapted to be embedded in a recess in a horizontal surface in said wall.
5. Means for anchoring a wall being built up of wall elements with a standing wall comprising an angle plate having a short arm extending at one end thereof andadapted to be sunk in a recess in the horizontal surface of the new wall, said recess being longer than the width of said arm whereby an adjustment in a horizontal direction of said anchor plate is obtained, an anchor bolt, means for adjustably retaining said anchor bolt in the other arm of said angle plate, said means including a slot in said arm and clamping nuts positioned on either side of said anchor bolt.
