Description

(No Model.)
A. MICHAEL.
Corn Plow.
Patented July13,1880.
i UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ABEL MICHAEL, OF DARKE, OHIO.
CORN-PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 229,900, dated July 13, 1880,
Application filed May 10, 1880. (N 0 model.)
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABEL MICHAEL, of Darkefin the county of Darke and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oorn-Plows and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved corn-plow. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to animproved machine for furrowing or plowing and marking corn-land, covering corn, and cutting stalks, the construction and operation of which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly .pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A represents a rectangular frame supported upon wheels B B.
O O are frames, of such length as to fit nicely between the front and rear beams of frame A, and of sufficient width to accommodate the plow-beams D. The front ends of the latter are pivoted or hinged to rods E, which pass through the front ends of frames 0 and the front beam of frame A, to which the front ends of the said frames 0 are in this manner secured. The rear ends of frames 0 are secured to the rear beam of frame A by removable pins F.
By providing several openings in the front and rear beams of frame A, the frames 0 and the plows contained therein may be adjusted close together or far apart, as may be desired.
Uprights G at the ends of frame A are provided with bearings for a rock-shaft, H, having arms I, connected by chains J with the plow-beams.
Arms I should be capable of being adjusted upon the shaft H in such a manner as to place them directly above the plow-beams.
.To an arm, K, at the front of frame A is pivoted alever, L, connected, by a rod, M, with an arm, N, upon rock-shaft H, which may in this manner be operated so as to raise or lower the plows.
O is an arm or upright having notches P P, in any of which the lever L may be adjusted so as to retain the plows at anydesired elevation.
From the foregoing description the operation of my invention will be readily understood.
The beams D may be provided with plows or covering-shovels, thus servingeither to plow and mark the land or to cover the seed, as the case may be.
Being confined in the frames 0, the beams D can have no'swaying motion, and the work is therefore steady and accurate.
The frames 0 with the plows may be easily and quickly adjusted any desired distance apart.
My improved machineis sim ple,iuexpensive,- durable, and may be easily changed and adapted to any of the purposes described.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United'Statcs- 1. The combination, with the frame A, of the adjustable frames 0, confining the pivoted plow beams D, and the rock-shaft H, having adjustable arms I, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the frame A, adjustable frames O, rods E, having hinged plowbeams D, and the pins F, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature .in
presence of two witnesses.
ABEL MICHAEL.
