Description

R. J. BYRUM TOOTHBRUSH AND POWDER HOLDER Filed Aug. 29, 1940 Patented Oct. '6, 1942 UNI TEJD' STATES PAT EN T O F F 1 CE room BRUSH AND rownaa HOLDER Roscoe J. 'llyrumyGrand Forks, N. Dak. Application August 29, 1940, Serial No. 354,774 1 (Cl. 132-84) protected against contamina ion an ainst contact with the tooth powder, and wherein a convenient tooth powder receptacle isprovlded iron: which the powder may be readily obtained when wanted.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the above described character wherein the cover for the brush and for the tooth powder receptacle is common to these units so that by a single-movement oi the cover, :the brush and powder areiimmediaiely accessible.
A further object oi the invention is to provide 2 a. combination toothbrush :holder and tooth pow- .der receptacle in which a chamber isiprovided within the powder receptaclegin which the han dle oi. the tooth 3brush1is, 1housed, :therexbeing .a
removable capsecured over theerid ,0! the recep-' tacle and closing said chambena providing a cover for the .bristleportion ,orhead otthe brush I and a closure means ,ior powder discharge opening oi the receptacle.
The invention will .bebest understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, with the understanding, however, that the invention is 'not to be confined to any strict conformity with the showingbf the drawing ,but may be changed or modirledso long as such changes or modifications markno material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claim.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a view in side elevation of the device embodying the present invention, a portion of the cap of the device-abeingehroken away to show the tooth powder discharge opening.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is atransverse sectional view on the "line 1-3 orFig. 2..
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, the numeral generally designates the body 01' the presentdevicewhile the single cover or cap which protects and houses the tooth brush head and closes the outlet for :the powder receptacle is indicated generally by the numeral 2. The body portion l consists of the cylinder 3, one end of which is closed by the depressed or concave head 4 while the otherend is closed by the removable cap 5, which is threadably attached to the end of the cylinder by the screw threaded flange 6. Adjacent the head end of the cylinder 3, a discharge aperture 1 is formed in the wall of the cylinderthrough which the contents of the cylinder indicated at 8, may be dis charged.
Secured in the central part of and opening through the head .4 oilthe receptacle is a tube 9 which is securely attached to the head 4, as in- Jdicated at I0, the tube being open at the end ..cient to permit the skirt to snugly receive the head end of the cylinder body 3 and the length 01' the skirt is sumcient for it to cover the discharge opening I when the head of the cylinder is inserted into the skirt.
The numeral H designates a tooth brush, the handle portion of which is indicated at l5, while the bristles areindicated at I6. As shown, the handle I5 of the brush is extended into the tube 9 and the bristles are located above the head 4 and areenclosed within the cap 2 when the latter is irictionally engaged with the end of the cylinder. Inthis manner it .will be at once apparent that the cap 2 performs the double function of enclosing or housing the head of the tooth brush and of closing the tooth powder discharge or outlet opening I, and thus when the cap is removed the brush can at once be taken out for use and powder discharged from the receptacle onto the brush without having to manipulate any other closure devices.
While the tube 9 has here been shown as being of rectangular cross-section, it will be readily obvious that it may be of circular cross-section if desired and also, while the body 3 has been illustrated as being of circular design, it will be readily obvious that it may be made of polygonal cross-section if found convenient or desirable.
By providing the removable cover 5 for the receptacle 3, the device after being emptied of the tooth powder which it may contain when marhated, can be readily opened for refilling with any powder which the user may desir to thereafter employ.
By forming the top wall 4 concave in th manner illustrated, the insertion of the brush handle into the center receptacle 9 is facilitated and at the same time the brush head is positioned lower aaeaaae with the tube 9 and the cap 2 may be made of any suitable material, particularly a material which will resist the sheets of moisture so that the device may be used indefinitely without rust ing or other change.
What is claimed is:
A combined receptacle and tooth brush carrier,
comprising an elongated receptacle body havhig a closure wall at one end having a central open, ing, a tube having one end in said closure opene ing and extending into the receptacle, the tube being open at the said one end for the reception of the handle of the tooth brush and having the edge of the wall at the open and swaged over the The cap 2 may be provided with suitable vent holes to permit the proper drying out of the brush bristles by applying a circulation of air through the cap. The container or receptacle 3 together edge of said opening, the receptacle having a discharge opening in its side wall adjacent the said one end, and a cap formed to receive the said one end of the receptacle to close said discharge opening and to cover the head of a tooth brush which has its handle disposed in said tube.
