Application August 25, 1941, Serial No. 408,223
1 Claim.
This invention relates to floor mats for ad justable pedals, the principal object of which is to protect from wear a carpet, rug, or the like adjacent a piano, other musical instrument, or the like, equipped with pedals for actuation by the feet of the operator.
The principal object of the invention is to not only protect the floor covering, but provide a uniform rest for the feet of the operator.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear in the following description thereof.
Referring now to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this application, and wherein like reference characters indicate like parts:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one of the improved floor mats.
Figure 2 is a vertical section on the line 22, Figure 1.
In the drawing, l represents the floor engag ing or body portion of the mat which obviously may be of any desired shape, but preferably substantially as shown and being of some more or less flexible material such as rubber or the like. The upper surface of the mat is provided with corrugations or ribs to insure more positive action of the operators feet, while 2 represents that smaller portion of the mat which extends upwardly at right angles adjacent the neck of the body portion and provided with a through elongated rectangularly shaped opening 3, which, when the mat is applied to a piano, for example,
occurs directly beneath the floor pedals of such an instrument, and which are illustrated at 4.
These pedals 4 are usually substantially as here illustrated, and provided with a rectangularly shaped shank-like portion 5 for the pivotal support of same, as well as for the connection at the opposite end thereof for the necessary operating rod. Above this opening 3 and communicating therewith is a vertically elongated opening 6, for each pedal, and which opening occurs just opposite the upstanding guard l of the pedal, and, in the most practical construction of the mat, it has been found desirable to provide a thinner flexible wall 8 across these vertically disposed openings, and which may be installed in the back of the portion 2 of the mat in any desired manner, or integrally formed therewith, as illustrated.
This narrow flexible wall across the pedal openings is found to function admirably in retaining the mat in its proper relation to the pedals at all times, though quite obviously it may be supported in some other manner adjacent the pedals without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A foot pedal floor mat comprising a main body portion and an upturned portion issuing from a marginal edge of said body portion, and having a combined through and stepped opening therein for the purpose described.
