1 Claim.
This invention relates to extensible panels for the tops of refreshment dispensing cabinets and the like.
An object of the invention is to provide a panel for cabinet tops extensible to accommodate for different width sizes of cabinets, the front side primarily for advertising display, and-the rear side equipped with utility fixtures, as for example, shelving.
Another object is to provide a panel for store or dispensing cabinet tops, composed of a plurality of sections with the central section preferably of a congurated outline for design embellishment, and to furnsh a denite advertising display space; and a pair of opposite side or wing sections, each adjustably mounted upon the rear side of the central section for panel extension, with the rear sides thereof carrying utility fixtures, and the front side, racks, for replaceably holding sign letters or cards for trade announcements.
Another object is to provide an inexpensive extensible panel as a sheet metal advertising sign product, conveniently attachable to the top margin of various sizes of refreshment dispensing cabinets.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will be more fully apparent from a description of the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improved extensible cabinet top panel as applied to the top edge of a panel.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3 3, Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4-4, Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a rear perspective View of the middle or main section of the panel.
The panel approximately constitutes a sheet metal advertising sign product for mounting and display along a top edge of a refreshment dispensing cabinet as employed in retail stores. It is extensible for installation upon various widths of cabinets or available counter space, and to accommodate for its extensibility is composed of a plurality of relatively movable or adjustable sections, as illustrated, preferably three in number.
The main or middle section I, as the dominant section of the series, is preferably of a configurated outline to give a particular design embellishment to the panel and distinctiveness to the section, which, upon its front side, embodies the advertising matter portrayed thereon by the various printing, lithographie, or other methods employed in the manufacture of painted or enameled signs. The main or middle section therefore provides the major advertising space, which is not disturbed or broken up by the extensibility of the panel.
The main section has a lateral flange 2 extending laterally irom its reverse side following its configurated outline, to reinforce the main section and present the same in relief upon the end or wing sections 3, 3, projecting respectively relatively from the opposite ends of the main section I. The end or wing sections 3, 3, for the design of the panel illustrated, are of uniform length, although this is optional, as their relative lengths may vary to dispose the middle section more toward one end than the other in substitution for a central position and add alteration to the design effect. Likewise, one or both of the sections may be extensibly connected to the main or middle section, and in the present instance both end sections are extensible from the main section, therefore being of duplicate construction excepting as to their reversal of form for right and left application. The detailed description thereof will be confined to the singular.
Each end section has an inturned flange 4 for its top, bottom, and outer end edges, with a lower portion 5 at its outer end extended laterally, and the edge flanged to form a side bracket for stabilizing the mounting of the panel on the top of the cabinet or other support. The base flange 1 of the bracket is apertured for the traverse of one or more screws or bolts to secure the bracket to the cabinet or support, and this correspondingly follows for the base flange 8 on the wing section.
The Wing section toward its inner end and upon its front side is provided with an offset clip 9 for straddling an upturned flange III, extending from the bottom flange II of the main section I, to sldingly connect the wing section to the main section and limit the extent or degree of extensibility of the wing section from the main section. The inner side of the main section I is provided with an angle strip I2 having its horizontal limb overlyingly engaged on the top ange 4 of the wing section, both of which have a series or row of apertures I3 therethrough for traverse by one or more bolts for securing the sections together in their relatively adjusted position.
The inner side of the wing section has one or more utility fixtures mounted thereon, exemplilied as shelving I5, I5, while the outer side, for a portion of its length, has a conventional type of card or removable sign letter holding rack strips I6 fixed thereon for displaying a make up merchandising announcement. The end anges l 'I of the middle or main section l are notched to provide a sliding clearance for the sign letter holding racks of the Wing sections.
Having described my invention, I claim:
An extensible panel of the character disclosed composed of a plurality of sheet metal sections, comprising: a main central section and a pair of Wing sections extending from relative opposite ends of the central section and rearward therefrom, the central section having a lateral flange extending from the rear side for the out.
line of the section to reinforce and position the same in relief from the wing sections, a flange extending from the rear side of the central section in parallelism With and overlying adjoining portions of a rearwardly flanged top edge of the wing sections for rigidly joining the sections in relative Wing extensible positions, the base end of the rear side of the Central section channelled providing an outstanding flange and the Wing sections at their outer side overlying said upstanding ange and slidingly clipped thereto for extending and limiting the extensibility of the Wing sections upon the central section.
