4 Claims.
This invention relates to combination fixtures, and is more particularly related to a Combination hot and cold water spout and spray fixture and to its method of mounting in connection with the hot and cold water supply inlet and the spray outlet.
It is an object of this invention to provide a combination fixture wherein means are provided for centering and holding the supply and discharge conduits in definite position relative to the inlet and discharge passages of a combination spout and spray fixture.
Another object of this invention is to provide a combination fixture of the spout and spray type in which all the elements of the fixture are carried upon the surface of the wall and are suitably housed with a surface escutcheon or member whereby removal for repair of any portion of the fixture may be easily accomplished.
Another object of this invention is to provide a combination spout and spray fixture of a simple and composite design wherein means are provided between the supply and discharge conduits for simply and removably connecting the fixture in position.
Another object of this invention is to provide a combination spout and spray fixture of the surface wall mounting type adapted to be covered by an escutcheon and wherein control valves of such fixture are projected at an angle from the horizontal in such manner as to maintain the escuthcheon in position against the wall as suspended from the said angular holding means.
Other objects and advantages of this invention it is believed will be apparent from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment thereof as illustrated in the accom-- panying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device embodying my invention illustrating the same in position on a wall shown as broken away.
Figure 2 is a side elevation partly in vertical mid-section of a combination fixture embodying my invention illustrating the same as connected in position with respect to a fragment of a wall structure.
Figure 3 is a separated perspective view of the combination fixture embodying my invention illustrating the same as disassembled preparatory to assembly to the position illustrated in Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a fragmental elevation partly in vertical section illustrating the connection of one of the volume control members in the combination fixture.
Figure 5 is a perspective view illustrating the centering and supporting means for the conduits for the combination fixture embodying my invention.
Figure 6 is a fragmental rear elevation of the centering and supporting means illustrated in Figure 5.
Figure '7 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 'I-'I of Figure 6.
In the preferred embodiment of my invention as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, I indicates a hot water supply conduit, 2 a cold water supply conduit; a shower riser conduit 3 is provided for conducting the water from the combination fixture and delivering the same to a shower head 4.
Means are provided for definitely positioning and holding the conduits I, 2 and 3 in position for connection with, and for supporting, the combination fixture embodied in my invention. This means includes a plate 5 having three centering apertures *6, I and Bthrough which connection nipples 9, III and II for connection with the combination fixture are extended. The plate 5 is provided with elbow clamping means I2 at each of the apertures 6, I and 8 by means of which the beads I3 of the connecting elbows I4, I5 and I6 are clamped and supported in position. The apertures formed through the plate 5 are of a diameter sufficient to receive the nipples 9, I0 and II but are insufiicient to permit passage of the bead I3 through from the rear face of the plate 5. The metal surrounding these apertures is die-stamped to provide a plurality of stop fingers I! which act to engage the face of the elbow bead or rim I3. The metal is also stamped to provide a plurality of clamp fingers I 8 which are bent rearwardly sufficiently to permit the passing of the elbow rim I3 into position against the stop fingers or members I'I.
After the elbows are properly positioned, a tool as indicated in dotted lines at 20 may be inserted into the drilled holes 2| formed in the clamp fingers I8 to force the same downward against the inner face of the elbow rims I3, thereby locking the elbows in positio 7 It will be apparent from the foregoing that while we have described centering and supporting means 5 as operating in conjunction with elbows I 4, I5 and I6, that this means is equal-, ly susceptible to clamping and supporting other similar plumbing fitting members having similar beads or rims to beads I3, as, for example,
for example, the studs 22 and 23 by any suit able or desirable means as through the use of the supporting strap 24 to which the plate is adjustably secured by means of bolts 25 and which strap may be nailed to the studs 22 and 23 by nails 26 passed through any one of a plurality of holes 21 formed in the strap 24. Thus complete adjustability of the position in which the centering and supporting plate 5 is positioned is provided for. o
The combination fixture embodying our invention as coupled with the supporting and centering means as hereinabove described includes a transverse conduit casting 28 having cast at its respective ends valve bosses 29 and 30 and provided at approximately the midpoint with shower outlets 3|. At the shower outlets there is provided a fiat surface 32 providing a slip surface for mounting with relation to the surface of a collar 33. The collar 33 has a similar fiat surface 34 so that assembly of centering of the branch casting 28 over the collar 33 may be had by relative vertical movement of the two surfaces Hand 34 by each other to a position where the shower outlet 3| is aligned with the passage provided. through the shower riser nipple 1 A packing'ring 35 is embedded into one of the surfaces 32 or 34 being illustrated here as embedded in a packing recess 36 formed in from the surface. 34 of the collar 33. The collar 33 is provided with wings 36 threaded as indicated at 31 to receive the screws 38 which pass through the casting 28 to secure the same in position.
Volume and pressure control valves 39 are threaded to'the ends of the nipples Band II] and are connected at the packed slip fittings 4D to the cylindrical extensions 4| of the valve castings 29 and 30-. I 7
Water control valves of any suitable or desirable construction are mounted in the valve castings 29 and 3|] and the control stems 42 and 43 for these valves extend through the cap nuts 44 and .45 provided for the valve castings 29 and 30. The valve caps 44 and 45 are provided with threaded extensions 46 to which suitable escutcheons are threaded.
The valve bosses 29 and30 are cast with reference to the transverse casting 28 in such manner that they extend, substantially 45 forward of the axes of the securing extensions 4|. An escutcheon 49 is provided for enclosing the combination fixture upon the surface of the wall 5|] upon'which the fixture is mounted. This escutcheon is provided with a 45 section 5| through which apertures 52 are formed to permit the same to be placed over the valve caps 44 and 45. secured to the branch casting 28 is a spout 53 which delivers the water from the branch casting 28 to any suitable point such as to the tub indicated at 54 (Figure 1). The escutcheon 5| is provided with a, slot 55 through which the spout 53 extends. By forming the complementary section 45 sections of the escutcheon 5| and the valve bosses 29 and 30, there is provided a support for the escutcheon 5| so that when the escutcheon 5| is positioned over the combination fixture, the same is supported by its own weight in such manner that it lies fiat against the surface of the wall 50. The bell escutcheons 41 are then threaded to the valve caps 44 and 45 and clamp the escutcheon 5| in position. 7 V
The combination fixture as thus described may include any suitable or desirable form of water diverting means through the medium of which the water may be caused to pass either up through the shower riser 3 to the shower head 4 or may be permitted to flow out through the spout 53 as, forexample, a, valve may be mounted in the spout 53 which valve is provided with an actuating handle 56 extending from the upper surface of the spout 53. Any suitable or desirable form of automatic diverter or ejector means for controlling this flow or the direction of flow of this water may be provided in this fixture as, for example, illustrated in the GlauberPatents Nos. 1,653,956
or 1,666,531. a 7
