Description

J. U. FIESTER.
No. 22,945. I Patented Feb. 15,1859.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN U. FIESTER, OF WINCHESTER, OHIO.
Specification of Letters Patent No.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN U. Fins'rnn, of inchestenin the county of Guernsey and tate of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Churns; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The drawing is a section through the tub or churn.
A, is the tub in which the milk is put; B, the lid or cover; C, the shaft or spindle of dasher; D, the dasher blades; E, a yoke spring attaching the dasher blades to spindle; F, a cross tie attached to spindle C, and having slots (a) in it for pins (Z2) on dasherblades to work in and guide said blades; ((2) the crank.
' ((l) are beveled mortises cut partly through the dashers and serve to retain a portion of the atmosphere during the clownward motion of the churn or dashers, which is thus carried down to the bottom of the milk; (0) a journal box; holes in the dashers for the cream to pass through and be better agitated.
It will be perceived by reference to drawings and model that the tub A, is larger at CHURN.
22,945, dated February 25. 1859.
the bottom than at the top. It will also be perceived that the dasher fills the tub just as much at the bottom as at the top. In other churns with an inclined dasher, in order to make the dasher fit the tub it has becn'necessary to make the tub larger at the top thus rendering it liable to be easily overset. In my invention however this is obviated by the adjustability of the dasher, since the yoke spring E and slots (a) allow the dasher blades to be forced easily into the smaller opening in the top of the tub, and when in to expand and fill the larger space at the bottom. The mortises ((Z) in dasher blades are made at right angles with the surface of the milk and are intended to carryair to the bottom of the churn for hastening the coming of the butter.
.Having thus fully described the construction of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
The adjustable dasher constructed with two blades D, yoke spring E, cross-tie F with slots at and pins Z2, together with holes f and air cavities (Z operating substantially as herein set forth and described.
