This invention relates to a receptacle or container of the type usually made of paper, pasteboard or the like and used for instance, but not necessarily, as a bottle, to contain milk, cream or the like.

It is primarily aimed to provide a means in connection with such container which will not unduly weaken the same, and which will at all times enable the contents of the container to be observed, especially as to the quantity remaining, color, depth of the cream line and the like.

The more specific objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawing illustrating an operative embodiment.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a container embodying my invention;

Figure 2 is a horizontal section taken on the plane of line 22 of Figure 1;

Figure 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of a second form of the invention;

Figure 4 is a perspective view of a third form of the invention;

Figure 5 is a central vertical sectional view through a portion of another modified form of container, and

Figure 6 is a plan view of the disk or closure used in connection with the form of Figure 5.

Referring specifically to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like or similar parts, and first to Figure 1, the container may be of any desired shape, such as round, square or rectangular in cross section. It is shown as square and comprises a body it made for instance of paper or pasteboard and suitably waterproofed, having an opening through which it has been fflled with milk, cream or any other suitable material and which opening is covered and sealed by a closure as at I l, and which is adapted to be removed preparatory to dispensing the contents of the container.

At one wall of the container iii, a slot 52 of any suitable size or shape is provided across which a window I3 is secured in any liquid tight manner, the same for instance being in adhered relation to the inner surface of the container l and overlapping strips !4, adhered both to the container and to the window l3.

Said window i3 for instance may be of Cellophane, glass, pliofilm or any equivalent.

Said window 13 is diaphanous inasmuch as it is either transparent or translucent, enabling the contents of the container to be viewed through the same, whereby the color of the contents may be ascertained, the cream line may be observed in the case of milk, and the extent to which the container has been filled-and the amount remaining in the container after a pouring operation or the like. If desired, the window [3 may also be colorless or of any desired color, tint or shade to blend with or contrast with the contents of the container or any material or color on the container.

As an aid in determining the contents of the container and in pouring quantities from the container from time to time, indications are provided as at I5 on either or both the window 13 and wall of the container adjacent thereto, and in addition, markings may be delineated on either the Window or wall of the container relative to quantities.

In lieu of using the strips M, as in Figures 1 and 2, the walls of the container It may be of a number of plies and the window l3 secured and sealed between the same if preferred.

A modified form is shown in Figure 3 where the container Hi corresponds to that at it] having a window l3 corresponding to that at [3 and located in the top wall of the container, and having for instance markings or designations i6 thereon only, corresponding to those at 16, although the window may be exactly like that at l3 and the markings like it and i! used in connection therewith.

Another modified form is shown in Figure 4 in which the container is designated H1", having a side wall provided with a window opening l2", preferably Wider than but corresponding to that at l2 and having a window 13" associated therewith corresponding to that at E3. This window 13" preferably has indications l5 and markings l6" and I?" delineated thereon and correspond- 1 ing to those at I5, l6 and Il, respectively.

The final modified form of Figure 5 has a container body lila of the same material as that at It but provided with a removable closure disk I8 adapted to removably snap into and out of a groove l9 provided adjacent the top of the container Illa, the disk l8 being of the same material as the container IE] or lfla and preferably having a tongue [9 integral with it to facilitate removal.

Said disk l8, which is specifically shown in Figure 6, is provided with a window slot I2a, functioning like that at l2 and which is covered by a window [3a, functioning like that at 53 and being of the same material. Such window I3a may be secured in place in any suitable manner and for instance like in Figures 1 and 2, strips 14a being employed similarly to those at I4 and such strips, the window l3a and disk l8 all being in adhering and water tight relation. Markings such as those at I5, [6 and IT, may be used in connection with the Window 1311 and cap [8, if preferred.

Attention is called to the fact that the opening l2a does not extend to the marginal edge of the disk [8 and hence the disk is not unduly weakened in carrying out the invention.

It will be apparent that any suitable advertising or ornamental matter may be delineated upon any of the windows or upon the containers, in the different forms disclosed.

I claim as my invention:

A paper container or the like of the type which is adapted to be tilted for dispensing the contents thereof, said container having a substantially flat upper end provided with a dispensing opening disposed adjacent an edge thereof, an elongated window formed in the upper end, said window having graduation markings associated therewith, and said container being adapted to be tilted, for dispensing the contents thereof, so as to position said upper end in substantially a vertical plane and the dispensing opening near the bottom thereof, and said window being disposed substantially in a vertical plane, when the dispensing opening is thus disposed, for indicating the quantity of the contents of the container when the pouring operation is begun so that a measured quantity of the contents can be dispensed.
