An object of my invention is to provide an improved suction nozzle with one suctionopening for eificiently removing embedded. dirt= and another suction opening which maybe used-"either ror removing loose surface inaterial or lint, 1 "threads; hairs, 'andthe like, fadhering to the" surface of the rug.

I Referring to the drawings, in indicates a suction nozzle generally having a body II with an enlarged suction opening l2 on one side and a smaller opening l3 at the other side. Opening 2 is bounded by a smooth lip l4 having an arched cross-section, as best shown in Fig. '7, with a rearwardly extending flange l5 located at each end of the body H. The top opening 13 is considerably smaller than the opening l2. A plate l6 covers the opening l3 and has a central passage 'l'l communicating with the opening l3. Located at one side of the passage I1 is a rod IS with alternate transverse tongues l9 and grooves 20. Rod I3 is provided with extensions 2| at each end which enter openings in -L-shaped plates 22. When tube 35 is in th position indicated in Fig. 8, opening 46 of tube 35 is in communication with chamber 46 through an opening 49 in transverse wall 45.
