sheet metal border also to receive a packing 24 provided between the border of the sheet metal container and the shoulder, so that the lid l6 scribed in which means are provided ensuring a true parallel movement of the supporting device so as' to prevent effectively said device from being turned over and thus to prevent every impact between objects such as would be apt to cause flaws in the border portions of the objects and, perhaps, breaking of the dishes.
Another object of the invention is to provide a dish washing machine of the type described in which the supporting device is positively guided on two opposite sides by vertical guides on the wall of the machine casing and correspondingly shaped guide members on the supporting device engaging said vertical guides.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a dish washing machine of the typedescribed in which an operating means for effecting the upward and downward movement or the supporting device engages the guide members on said device whereby the parallel movement of the supporting device is further warranted.
The invention'will be described more closely will in its closing position be on a level with the surface of the sink. The sheet metal container 22 forms the spraying space 23 of the washing machine and carries the mechanical'equipment thereof, which is arranged beneaththe container.
The mechanical equipment of the machine will be described in brief terms only, as it permits of being formed otherwise than shown more or less diagrammatically in the drawing. According to with theguidance of forms of embodiments thereof as illustrated inthe accompanying drawing, in which connection additional features characteristic of the invention will also be explained.
- for instance from stainlessmaterial. Provided in the surface of the sinkis a substantially rectangular opening l4 adapted to be closed by a lid 16, which is Provided with a downwardly projecting flange I1 about the border thereof, and is pivotally connected with the sink by a hinge l8 sunk into the same. Cut into the border about the opening is a shoulder 20, in which is suspended a sheet metal container 22 resting with the embodiment disclosed, the machine is provided with two spraying devices, one for washing liquid, which comprises a spraying tube 26 adapted to be swung to and fro, and another spraying. device for rinsing liquid comprising a rigid sprayingtube 28. Each spraying device has a pump as well as a container for the respective liquid allotted thereto. The pumps are preferably driven by a common electric motor, and are,
built together with the latter to form a unit 3|]. The tanks form parts of a common vessel 32, the latter being divided into two spaces by means of sloping walls, each of such spaces being provided at the bottom with a valve-controlled outlet 34 leading to the respective pump. The space or tank for the washing liquid is provided with an overflow pipe 36 extending to an outlet 38 which is common to the pumps. Extending from the pump for washing liquid to a spraying tube 26 is a riser pipe 40, while a riser pipe 42 exits edge on said shoulder. The shoulder is of such a depth as to be enabled in addition to the tends from the pump for rinsing liquid to the spraying tube 28.
Provided on the inside of two opposed walls of the sheet metal container 22 are guide rails 44 formed at their opposite sides as guiding means for Wheels 46 of carriages 48 adapted to carry the supporting device. Each carriage is preferably provided with two pairs of wheels 46. The supporting device consists of a frame 50 connected with the carriage and formed as a grate or the like, which may rest removably on the carriage frame, the latter carrying pins 52 engaging corresponding openings in the supporting frame 50, or vice versa. I
To effect raising and lowering of the supporting frame, the latter is in the embodiment disclosed connected in a manner known per se with the lid l6 so that the supporting frame is raised and lowered when the lid is swung up and down respectively, This is effected by means of angulid, by means of a pin 55 arranged at the upper end of the links, which at their lower ends are movably connected with the carriage frame 48 by means of a pin 58 provided on the carriage frame engaging into an elongated slot 59 provided in the end portion of the link. In order to lock the supporting frame 50 in raised position, a pawl 62 mounted on the carriage frame 48 is made use of, the lower, somewhat bent end portion 64 of said pawl snapping into a recess 66 in the corresponding guide rail 44 in raised posi tion of the supporting device. A spring 61 is adapted to press the lower end 64 or the pawl against the guide rail 44. The pawl 62 has an arm 58, the outer end 10 of which is bevelled oii and arranged to cooperate with the bevelled external end 12 of the corresponding link 54.
The lid I6 is provided with a device adapted to lock the same in its swung-down position. In the embodiment disclosed, this device consists of a vertical leaf spring 14, which is secured at its lower end 15 to the container 22, and is provided at its upper bent end portion with an opening engaged in swung-down position of the lid by a hook 80 attached to the lower side of the lid. The locking device is actuated by means of a horizontal push rod 82 extending through the wall of the container 22 and bearing on the leaf spring 14. On the lower side of the lid, 2. leaf spring 84 is secured to the lid I6, said spring cooperating, by means of a downwardly bent portion thereof, with an arm 86 secured to the link. The supporting device operates as follows. In swung-down position of the lid Hi, the hook 80 engages .the upper end of the spring 14 which is strained in this position. When the machine is to be made use of, the push rod 82 is moved in, so that the engagement between the hook 80 and the spring "M is interrupted, the lid l6 being then raised by a small angle relatively to the surface of the sink under the influence of the spring 86, so that the front edge of the lid may be grasped. The lid is then swung up, so that the carriages 48 will be slid upwardly along the guide rails M by means of the links 54, until in swung-up position of the lid the end 64 of the pawl snaps into the recess 66. The supporting frame 50 is now on a level with the surface l2 oi the sink, so that a basket 5| filled with dishes can be easily slid onto the frame. When the supporting device is to be lowered, the first small turning movement of the lid l6 causes the link 5:! by its bevelled off end portion 12 to swing the end portion 64 of the pawl out of engagement with the recess 66, so that the locking of the supporting frame is interrupted and the frame is caused to be lowered into the spraying space 23 by continued lowering of the lid. The last small portion of the downward movement of the lid takes place against the spring 8d, which is thus strained, and in the lowered position of the lid the hook 80 engages into the opening in the spring 14 so as to lock the lid in this position. The spring 84 may be arranged otherwise, and may also be replaced by any similar contrivance adapted to be actuated from the outside, and through which the lid may be brought into a position in which it can be seized.
In order that the lowering of the supporting device shall not take place .too rapidly, which might cause damage to the dishes. housed within the same, when the lid is unintentionally let loose so as to fall down, the supporting device is connected with a braking device, which should be so arranged as to brake the movement of the supporting device only in the lowering thereof, whereas the raising of the device takes place without impediment. In the embodiment disclosed (see particularly Fig. 3), this braking device consists of a'liquid brake comprising a sector-shaped container 90 arranged on the lower side of the lid in the proximity of the pivot pin 55 of the link 54 and filled with liquid. as well as a wing 92 affording a tight fit in the container 90 and secured to the link 54 or to the Pin 55, said wing participating in the movements of the link and the pin respectively. The spaces on both sides of the wing 92 communicate with each other, on the one hand through an opening 94 of a comparatively small cross section, and on the other hand through an opening 96, which is controlled by a non-return valve 98, which opens at the opening of the lid and closes at the closing of the lid, so that in the latter movement the liquid in the container 90 is compelled to flow through the narrow opening 94, whereby the lowering movement of the lid and of the supporting device is braked.
In Fig. 4, the invention is illustrated as applied to a freestanding machine. It will be seen from the drawing, that the supporting frame 50 connected as before with the lid M5 by means of links 54 is in its upper position on a level with a working table H2 placed beside the machine, so that the introduction and the removal of the dish basket may take place in the same cleanly, hygienic and work-saving manner as in the first embodiment.
The invention, is not limited to the embodiments disclosed. As stated hereinbefore, the invention is independent of the construction of the mechanical equipment of the machine. The movement of the supporting device may be eifected by power instead of manually.
