Description
Patented July 7, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE COMBINED CASE AND CRIBBAGE BOARD Louis L. Batchelder, Two Rivers, Wis.
Application April 15, 1940, Serial No. 329,823
1 Claim.
The invention relates to a game outfit and more especially to a combined playing card case and cribbage board.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of an outfit of this character wherein a pack of playing cards will be conveniently carried Within a foldable case, the latter when unfolded providing a cribbage board, the folding of the case rendering the outfit compact so that it can be conveniently carried on a person or otherwise without occupying excessive space.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an outfit of this character wherein the case for the storage of a pack of playing cards also provides for the carrying of pins, counters or checks, these being adapted for counting in the playing of Cribbage and the said case provides a Cribbage board.
A further object of the invention is the provsion of an outfit of this character, which is unique in its makeup, simple in construction, reliable and efficient in operation, effecting a three-fold purpose, neat in appearance, compact, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the case of the outfit constructed in accordance with the invention and unfolded for presentation of a Cribbage board.
Figure 2 is a sectional View taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 3 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a View similar to Figure 1 looking toward the opposite side of the case showing a pack of playing cards held within one section of said case.
Figure 4 is a side elevation partly in section with the case in a folded condition.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the outt, according to this invention, includes a case, denoted at A, consisting of a Cribbage board formed in two sections I and II, respectively, these being of uniform size with respect to one another and are joined at their inner meeting ends through the medium of a leaf hinge I2 so that these sections I0 and II can be folded toward and unfolded away from each other.
The sections IU and II have created therein at the closing sides or faces thereof cavities or pockets I3 and I4, respectively, the latter pocket being of a formation and size for comfortably receiving a pack of playing cards I5, the pack being readily removed at the will of the user of the outfit. The cavity or pocket I3 is of a size and conformation in its major extent for accommodation of the pack of playing cards I5 when the sections I!! and II are closed or folded with the meeting, closing faces contacting with each other, excepting that said cavity or pocket I3 at one longer side thereof has a space I6 added thereto. This space IS is adapted to confine counters, pegs, checks or the like I'I. These are confined by a swingable gate I8 pivoted at I9 and having at the free end a finger-engaging grip 2D which rests upon a shoulder 2I aligned with the space I6. The gate, when in lowered position within the cavity or pocket I3, completely confines the counters, pegs or checks I1 so as not to interfere with the incasement of the pack of playing cards I5 when the sections I0 and II are folded for the closing of the case A.
Arranged within the cavity or pocket I3 is a spring latch 22, which is frictionally engageable with a wall next thereto of the cavity or pocket I4 when the sections I0 and I I are folded so that these sections will be releasably latched in folded condition to have the case maintained closed.
The outer faces of the sections I0 and II have arranged with respect thereto playing fields made up of perforations 23, which provide holes for receiving the game marking pegs, counters or checks Il identically to a regular or standard Cribbage board. The Cribbage board created by the case A involves the sections IU and I I, which, on the unfolding of the case, liein the same plane with each other with the perforated fields 23 uppermost, the pegs, counters or checks I'I having been previously removed so the same may be inserted in the holes for counting purposes in the playing of the game of Cribbage.
The sections I0 and II when folded and these fastened together, as before stated, will carry the counters, pegs or checks I'I and the pack of playing cards I5 and by reason of the compactness of the case, in its folded condition, it can be carried on the person or otherwise.
What is claimed is:
An article of manufacture, comprising two sections of equal dimensions hinged together to swing their upper faces into contacting relation portion and the side of said cutout portion With the upper surface thereof lying in the plane of the upper face of the section and provided at its free end with a nger-engaging grip passing into the reduced cutout portion, whereby the gate is wholly below the face of the section.
