The present invention relates to a Iilm trimming and gluing apparatus of the kind as shown and described in the Swiss Patent No. 164,226, said apparatus having two swingingly arranged clamps for holding the film ends to be trimmed and glued and having also a double sided cutter, a rasp and a pressure block all hinged to the same base plate carrying said clamps.
Hitherto a separate apparatus was needed for each particular width of film, while the apparatus of the present invention can be used for any width of lm which is now in use.
'Ihe invention, therefore, consists of an apparatus having clamps provided with two rows of tacks on the lower jaw, permitting the films to be xed to said tacks so as to bring their perforations into the correct continuous sequence when being glued.
As an example, an embodiment of an apparatus according to the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing.

In the drawing two swingingly mounted clamps b and c, facing each other, and adapted to hold the two -lm ends to be glued are arranged along one edge of a base plate a. Clamp b is shown in the gluing position, while clamp c is shown in the trimming position.
A rasp holder d with a rasp g and a, trimming device with two cutters e are arranged on the same axis on the opposite edge of the base-plate. The cutters are arranged in an inclined position to each other which corresponds to the mutual position of the two stationary cutting blades f1 and f2 fixed to the base plate. Furthermore, cutters and blades are located in such a way that the iilm ends are cut to such a length that, when swung back into their gluing position, they overlap each other for the purpose of being glued. Previous to such gluing the rasp holder d is turned down for a while and the rasp y is applied to the iilm surface to produce the required ruggedness for holding the glue.
Clamps b and c are each provided with two rows of tacks h and i some of which, at least, in
prises oppositely disposed parallel rows the one or the other row, will engage the perforations of any lm now in use in order to fix the lilm ends in the clamps in the correct continuous sequence of perforations when the clamps are brought into gluing position. The form of the perforations in the different kinds of film is not everywhere the same. In the 9 millimeter iilm the perforations are somewhat longer than in the 16 and 8 millimeter films. Therefore the tack row h in clamp b (Figs. 1 and 4) intended to fix a 9 millimeter lm, shows one tack h1 of an oblong cross section and a number of tacks h2 of a circular cross section. Tack h1 fits exactly into the perforation of the film and the edge of this latter will touch the upper edge of the clamp, as shown in Fig. 6. The tacks of circular cross section h2 are staggered transversely in the clamp in order to bear alternately on the lower or upper edge of the perforations. This arrangement permits of an easy xing and removing of the lm.
The rst tack i1 of the row z' has also an oblong cross-section and corresponds to the perforations of the 8 and 16 millimeter lms. The other tacks i2 have a circular cross-section. The reciprocal staggering of these latter tacks is not so great as that of the tacks of the opposite row h1, h2. The tacks i2, however, work in quite the same way as the tacks h2. If a 16 millimeter film, as shown in Fig. 4, is put on the row i1, i2 it bears with its upper edge against the inner tacks of the upper row and the iilm is thus supported on both sides.
The 8 millimeter film, as shown in Fig. 5, is likewise put on the row i. It touches the lower edge of the clamp. As proved by experience such a iixing is sufiicient for such a narrow film.
The rasp y is swingingly held on a rod g1 and is slidably arranged in the clamp d in a transverse direction to the iilm. Its sliding movement is limited by the cross bars g3 and g4. To secure the parallelism and the close contact of rasp g with respect to the film end held fast to the face plate k screws g2 are provided shown in Fig. 3. Face plate 7c is likewise held adjustably by an axis k1 permitting of a small pivoting of the plate.
The pressure block l in the pressure lid l is likewise held pivotally on a pin Z1 and is made adjustable by means of the screws l2 in order that the lm ends to be glued may be closely joined.
What I claim as new is:
1. In a lm trimming and gluing apparatus of the type having film clamping members and lm cutting means, the improvement which comof stationary pins arranged on said clamping members, the pins of one row being spaced midway between the pins of the second row, the pins being so constructed and arranged that said first row of pins will engage the inner end wall of perforations in the film while the pins in the second row engage the outer end wall of adjacent perforations in perforations in said film, and an elongated pin member at one end of said rows adapted to completely ll one of the perforations in said film.
3, In a lm trimming and gluing apparatus of the type havingfilm clamping members and lm cutting means, the improvement which comprises oppositely disposed parallel rows of stationary pins arranged on said clamping members, each pair of rows including an inner row and an outer row of pins, the pins of the inner row of each pair being spaced midway between the pins of its respective outer row, the pins being so constructed and arranged that the inner row of pins of one pair will engage the inner end wall of perforations in the film while the outer row Vof pins of the same pair will engage the outer end wall of adjacent perforations in said lm.
