Description

y 1942. E. v. HEATH 2,283,988
SOAP ,HOLDER Filed April 1941 Patented May 26,1942
UNITED sTATas 'ea ranr oral-cs I 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a soap holder and has for an object to provide a holder having jaws adjustable relatively to each other for gripping various sized cakes of soap, and having a handle adapted to receive one of the fingers of the operators hand and straddle two adjacent fingers of the operators hand so that the soap cannot escape from the hand when being used.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which will be formed of a few strong, simple and durable parts, which will be inexpensive to manufacture, and which will not easily get out of order.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a soap holder constructed in accordance with the invention, applied to a cake of soap.
Figure 2 is a cross sectional view of the soap holder and cake of soap shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the soap holder shown in Figure 2. v
Figure 4 is a cross sectional View of the soap holder taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a top plan view of a modified form of the soap holder.
Figure 6 is a cross sectional view of the soap holder shown in Figure 5 taken on the line 6-B.
Figure 7 is a perspective view of another modified form of the soap holder.
Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts in the various views, the soap holder comprises a clamp plate l0 having downwardly and inwardly turned guide flanges II at the ends, see Figure 3. A pair of jaws are slidably mounted in overlapped relationship at the inner ends on the underneath side of the plate In, each comprising a metal strap l2 disposed in the guide flanges having downwardly and inwardly turned flanges l3 provided with teeth H, see Figure 3. The metal straps |2 are slidably and frictionally secured together against the underneath face of the plate It! to permit the teeth M to be engaged with or disengaged from a bar of soap l5.
A handle is secured to the plate |0 comprising a substantially U-shapedfork including. a straight intermediate portion l5 and curved diverging upwardly extending legs H, see Figure 2.
in Figure 5 in which the jaws are formed as previously described each comprising a plate l8 having downwardly and inwardly turned flanges l9 provided with soap engaging teeth 20 adapted to engage various sized cakes of soap when the I jaws areslid longitudinally of each other.
A back plate 2| is provided with downwardly and inwardly curved guide flanges 22, see Figure 6, between which the straps l6 are placed in overlapping relation with their longitudinal edges positioned in the guide flanges 22 to permit the teeth to be engaged with or disengaged from a bar of soap.
A handle is assembled with the back plate 2|, the handle being formed as previously described, and comprising an intermediate straight portion 23, and curved upwardly and outwardly diverging legs 24. The straight intermediate portion 23 is disposed underneath the back plate 2| and the legs fit in recesses 25 formed in the longitudinal edges of the back plate 2|, see Figure 5, to removably secure the handle to the back plate.
Another modified form of the invention is shown in Figure 7 in which the jaws are formed as previously described, each comprising a strap 26 having a downwardly and inwardly turned flange 21 provided with soap engaging teeth 28. One strap 26 however is provided on its longitudinal edges with downwardly and inwardly turned guide flanges 29 which receive the other strap.
A handle is assembled with the jaws and comprises an upwardly and outwardly curved leg 30 which is fixed to the end edge of one of the jaws, and an upwardly and outwardly curved leg 3| which is struck-up from the material of the other jaw. By grasping the legs 39 and 3|, the soap engaging teeth of the jaws may be moved toward or away from each other to engage various sized cakes of soap while the legs are applied to the fingers of the operators hand as previously described. 7
From the above description it is thoughtthat the construction and operation of the invention -will be fully understood without further explanation.
What is claimed is: g
A soap holder comprising a back having notches in the longitudinal edges and'having the end edgesformed to provide guide flanges,
a pair of plates slidably mounted upon each
