Such holders, if designed for short and wide bobbins, did not firmly and securely hold the narrower and more pointed bobbins. Similarly, if designed for the narrow, more pointed bobbins, they did not as efficiently and firmly support the larger bobibns. There have also been holders of light spring Wire, which while capable of receiving different sized bobbins, due to their light construction, did not firmly hold the bobbin and required numerous parts to hold the ends of the numerous wires. As such holders were formed of light wire they were easily distorted out of shape. Due to the threepoint engagement in the present invention, the
bobbin, regardless of size, is securely and firmly different lengths by merely backing off the screw y 9, moving the member 5 to the proper position and again tightening the screw. As illustrated, the member 5 is preferably made from one piece of relatively heavy material as contrasted with prior constructions, so that it is not easily distorted from its desired shape.
It will be noted from the above description that I have provided a holder of the kind described which is very efficient and durable and which will readily receive and hold bobbins of various sizes and shapes.
Having thus described my invention, it is obvious that various immaterial modications may be made in the same without departing from the spirit of my invention; hence I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact form, construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown anddescribed, or uses mentioned.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the kind described, the combination of a supporting member, a bobbin-supporting-element mounted thereon and comprising a single strip of'yieldable material having one end portion thereof bent back upon itself to form a AU -shaped portion having aligned openings formed in the legs thereof receiving said supporting member, and means for locking said member in said openings, one of the legs of said U- shaped portions being extended beyond the other and bent transversely thereto, said transverse part of said leg being concave and terminating in an inverted U-shaped portion having a free leg of less length than the concave portion.
2. In a device of the kind described, the combination of a supporting member, a bobbinsupporting-element mounted thereon and comprising a single strip of yieldable material having one end portion thereof bent back upon itself to form a U-shaped portion having aligned opening formed in the `leg portions thereof receiving said supporting member, a nut, of approximately the same size, as the intermediate part of said U-shaped portion, positioned adjacent the inner side of said part, and a threaded member passing through said nut and intermediate part engageable with said supporting member to lock the latter and said bobbin-supporting-element.to l
one another, one of the legs of n said U-shaped portions being extended beyond the other and bent transversely thereto, said transverse part of said leg terminating in an inverted U-shaped portion, the leg of said U-'shaped portion secured to said supporting member being concave, and' the free leg being of less length than said concave leg to form three spaced triangularly arranged bobbin engaging portions.
3. A device of the character described adapted internally to support a bobbin having a generally frusto-conical concave surface comprising a supporting member, a bobbin-supporting-element formed of a substantially flat ribbon-like strip of resilient material mounted upon, and adjustable axially along, said supporting member, said bobbin-supporting-element being bent upon itself to provide a long arm affording spaced chord-like bobbin-engaging-portions at the ends thereof and a diverging short arm having a free end and affording av chord-like bobbin-engaging-portion adjacent said free end and substantially midway between the spaced bobbin-engaging portions on said long arm.
4. A device of the character described adapted internally to support a bobbin having a generally frusto-conical surface including a bobbin-supporting-elem'ent formed of a substantially ilat ribbon-like strip of resilient material bent upon itself to form a long arm providing spaced chord-like bobbin-engaging-portions at the ends thereof and a diverging short arm having a free end and providing a chord-like bobbin-engagingportion adjacent said free end and substantially midway between the spaced bobbin-engagingportions on said long arm, eachof said chordlike bobbin-engaging-portions being adapted to subtend an arc upon the frusto-conical surface of said bobbin and to make contactrtherewith at circumferentially-spaced points. 6. A device of the character described adapted internally to support a bobbin having a generally frusto-conical concave surface including a bobbin-supporting-element formed of a substantially flat ribbon-like strip of resilient material bent upon itself to form a long arm providing spaced bobbin-engaging-portions at the ends thereof and a diverging short varrn having a free end and providing a bobbin-engaging-portion adjacent saidfree end and substantially midway between the spaced bobbin-engaging-portions on said long arm, each of said bobbin-engaging-portions being adapted to make contact with the frusto-conical surface of said bobbin at circumferentially-spaced points.
