Description
Patented May 12, 1942 UNITED STATES PTENT OFFICE SADIRON REST Hubert S. Majerus, Minneapolis, Minn.
Application April 25, 1940, Serial No. 331,552
1 Claim.
The purpose of this invention is to provide an elevated ironing board clamping rest device for sadirons, one that will not only Serve to retain the sadiron when not in use but one that is a device that may be positioned any place along the length of an ironing board and secured by itself to the board in a manner as to prevent the sadiron from slipping from the holding device.
While the invention primarily relates to sadiron rest attachments to ironing boards such as a holder for sadirons, it provides means for facilitating the ironing work of the housewife; and means from which a sadiron can not fall or become dislodged from the resting position with in the holder.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device that is simple in construction, one which will be retained in place upon an ironing board.
Another object of my invention is to provide a sadiron holder the main body of which is a onepiece construction with a series of legs and sadiron retaining flanges and a nose clamp that acts as a forward foot.
My invention possesses many other advantages and has other objects which will be made more easily apparent from the consideration of the following specification of my invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure l is a perspective view of the sadiron holder assembly shown detached from an ironing board,
Figure 2 is a side view of the sadiron holder assembly shown attached to an ironing board.
In referring to the drawing, A represents the body of the sadiron support which is provided with upturned side lips B and a series of ventilating ducts C. The side lips B in their upturned state afford a longitudinal reinforcement to the plate A. To the rear on plate A, a lip D is provided-to arrest the sadiron from slipping off the plate A, the lip D acting as a cross reinforcement to the body plate A.
As will be noted from the drawing, the body A presents a contracted nose end to conform with the form of the sadiron. The contracted nose end of the body A extends forward forming a forward leg I and a clamp 2. The nose end and the forward leg of the sadiron support is provided with reinforcing corrugations 3 stiffening the leg portion and the nose end of the sadiron holder. The clamp 2 of the sadiron holder is formed by extending the forward leg I to a downward wall 4 and an inward extending yielding member 5 so as to form a hook 2 to clamp about a side of an ironing board.
The base plate A is rearwardly provided with leg extensions 6 which are bent downward and thence forward forming the feet 1 and thence upward to form braces or brace extensions 8. The brace extensions 8 are provided with forward extending fastening lips 9 which are to be se- (Cl. EMS-117.6)
cured to the under face of the plate A. The elevated position of the plate A is due to its forward leg I and the rearward legs 6 and the said elevated position of the said plate A provides a ventilating space I l beneath the sadiron support.
To the rear center of the plate A there is provided an eye l2 punched from the plate A into which is secured a spring I3. The spring l3 at its opposite end is secured into an eye I4 positioned in the head E of the clamp member F. The clamp member F is provided with corrugated reinforcements l5 to stiffen said clamp member F. The clamp member F is further provided with a horizontal field I6, a vertical bracket wall l1 and a forward extending yieldable field member l8 terminating in a rolled finger release I9.
In operation, the sadiron supporting unit A is secured upon the top of an ironing'board by the placing of the clamp 2 upon a side of an ironing board G so that the clamp 2 will grip the ironing board G and permit the legs I and 6 to hold it aloft from the board and thereby permitting ventilation through the intermediate space ll between the base of the plate A and the ironing surface of the ironing board G. Attached to the rear end of the plate A as previously described there is provided the spring l3 secured in the plate eye l2 within attached to the other end of the spring isthe clamp member F secured to the spring through the eye M. The yieldability of the spring l3 permits the proper adjustment of the clamp member F upon the opposite ironing board side so that the clamp member F firmly grips the ironing board side 22 as best illustrated in Figure 2.
The inward extending member I 8 which terminates in the thumb member I9 is provided with a slight incline when in its holding position so that a slight pressure upon the roller member l9 will easily release the clamp from the board's sides. As will be seen this device can be secured to the board in any position along the length of the board depending entirely upon the desire and wishes of the user.
I claim:
A sadiron holder of the class described comprising a single piece, including an iron supporting frame with the one end of said frame downwardly bent at its corners to form legs to rest upon an ironing board, the opposite end of said frame being bent downwardly to contact with the ironing board and hold the frame equally spaced from the ironing board between said legs and said doWn-tumed part, a clamp portion forming the end of said down-turned part and constructed to embrace the edge of an ironing board, anda spring connected to said clamp intermediate said legs and terminating in a clamp embracing the adjacent edge of the ironing board.
