Description
y 1942- v A. CORBLEI'AL 2,282,563
BRACELETiLOCKET Filed July 22, 1941 Patented May 12, 1942 UNITED STATS BRACELET LOCKET Alfred Corbi, Pawtucket, and Leo Bojar, Prov'i-' 1' denc'e, It. 1.; said Corbi assignor to said Bojar.
Application July 22, 1941, Serial No. 403,506
8 Claims.
Our present invention relates to the jewelry art, and has particular reference to bracelet con-' structions.
It is the principal object of our invention to devise a concealed pocket construction suitable for bracelets of the ornamental and the identification type.
Another object of the invention is to provide an openable compartment for a bracelet, which utilizes simple stamped parts and which is readily assembled. 1 p
Still another object is to utilize snap catch and latcli' parts which are integral with the separable parts of the openable compartment;
With the above and other objects andadvantageous features in View, the invention consists of a novel arrangement of parts more fully disclosed in the detailed description following, in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, and more specifically defined in the claims appended thereto.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a bracelet embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a front view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2, the parts being separated to disclose the openable compartment;
Fig. 4 is a rear perspective view of the compartment top;
Fig. 5 is a front perspective view of the compartment base;
Fig. 6 is a rear perspective view thereof;
Fig. 7 is a section on the line of Fig. 2;
Fig. 8 is a section on the line 8-8 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 9 is a detail section showing the disengagement stops for the separable parts.
It has been found desirable to provide an openable, normally concealed compartment for a bracelet. To this end, we have provided two separable parts which slide together to form a concealed pocket compartment, the parts being attached to the bracelet ends.
Referring to the drawing, the bracelet [0, which is preferably of the expansible type, is provided with a compartment ll made of two separable parts, a top l2, and a base [3.
The top 12, see Fig. 4, is preferablymade of a single metal stamping and includes a cover I4, which may be ornamented as desired and may have an ornament l5 riveted or secured thereto; the top has two edges l6, l1, which are .bent inwardly as illustrated to form two flanges l8, [9, which provide a slide runway. Each edge spirit and the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
, the parts rigidly engage.
has its front edge notched as indicated at 20, and has a punched-in dimple to provide a front stop 2| the rear of the cover is bent downwardly and then inwardly to provide a resilient depending tongue 22' which has a raised catch portion 23. The rear end of the top I2 is closed and has a bracelet end connection 24 secured thereto, which for the type of bracelet illustrated is provided with a pivot opening'25 Slidably associated with the top I2 is the base 13, which, as illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6, comprises a lower portion 26 with its sides bent to form two edges 21 and again bent to provide slides 28, the rear ends of the slides having lateral stops 29, and the front end of the base having a transverse bar 30, which extends beyond the slides to provide two front stops 3| ,which are adapted to enter the notches 20. A strengthening cross bar 32 may be provided if desired. The rear end of the lower portion is shaped and bent up to form a latch 33, see Fig. 5, and a braceletend connection 34 is secured to or attached to the front of the base l3, provided with a pivot opening 35.
When the top and the base are assembled together, the slides 28 slide beneath the flanges 18, I9 and within the runway, and the stops 29 are movable between the closed ends of the top and the front stops 2|; when the parts are in closed position the latch 33 rides over the catch portion 23, and the front stops 3! enter the notches 20 to wedge therein and retain the parts rigidly together. If desired, the front stops 3| and the notches may also function as inward stop parts. The upstanding sides of the base provide a concealed compartment which may be utilized to hold a picture, a paper, or the like as desired; yet the construction does not appear to provide an openable container at casual inspection, as Moreover, there are only two stampings, whereby the cost of manufacture and assembly is greatlyreduced.
Although the disclosure is specific to bracelets, the invention may be readily made applicable to jewelry in general, such as brooches, buckles, rings, earrings, pendants, and the like, by changes within the knowledge of a skilled jeweler.
