Fig. 15 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view taken on the line I5-I5 of Fig. 14.
Fig. 16 is a fragmentary sectional view similar to Fig. 15 but illustrating a modified construction.
Fig. 1'? is another fragmentary sectional vie similar to Fig. 15 but illustrating a still further modification of the invention.
The coat and shirt display form," according to this invention, includes a hollow form body In simulating the torso and having a front portion l0 with a fiat downwardly inclined neck area II] at the neck portion and a recessed area Ill at the front extending from the neck and shoulders to the waist. The form It also includes a the front portion at the back of the shoulders by a flexible strip II secured between theadjacent contacting edges (see Fig. 2)
A folded shirt I2 is rested upon and within the Q recessed area I0. Means is provided for releasably holding the folded shirt I2 in position. This means includes an elastic band I3 extended across the bottom of the recessed area Ill and attached at its ends upon the material of the form. Additional elastic bands M are extended across the uppercorners of the recess 1 and engage over portions of the folded shirt l2 and are attached at their ends upon the material of the form.
A bracket I5 is mounted upon the neck portion IIlb of the form and cooperates to hold the neck band of the folded shirt I2. More specifically, the bracket I5 comprises a stationary 'por-,
tion I5 secured by fastening elements upon the fiat neck portion II'I and aportion I5 which is hingedly connected with the portion I5" and which extends upwards and engages into the collar I2 of the folded shirt I2 (see Fig. 2). The hinged portion I5 is provided. with a clip I5 mounted upon the back thereof and adapted to clamp a portion of the collar I2 against the hinged portion Ili A neck block I6 is adapted to engage within the collar I2 and at its bottom central portion is provided with a small projecting peg H. The peg 11 is normally threadedly engaged in a tubular socket I'I coaxially mounted in the form.
This peg II must be removed when the neck block I8 i placed into the collar I: of the folded shirt l2. However, when it is desired to place the neck block l6 upon the form Without a shirt being displayed, the peg H is threadedly engaged into the socket and the block I6 is placed on the neck portion l of the form in a manner so that the peg extends downwards into an opening l8 formed in the neck portion Hi of the form, The opening I8 is extended into a reinforcement block |9 mounted upon the bottom face of the neck portion ||l of the form. The block I6 is also provided with a radially extending groove 2|] on its bottom face adapted to accommodate the stationary portion lof the bracket I5. This stationary portion l5 projects a portion of the shirt upwards into the groove 20. The construction is such that'the neck block 6 maintains its position within the collar |2 of the shirt I2.
Means is provided for holding said front and back portions Ill and It] in various hinged positions. This means includes a pair of arms 2| pivotally mounted at their bottom ends on brackets 22 which are mounted on partitions 23 mountted within the hollows of the form portions It and Hi The arms 2| extend upwards and pivotally connect with a bracket 23' which is fixedly mounted on a rod 24 which extends downwards and slidably engages a tubular socket 25. The tubular socket 25 is supported on a bracket 26 which supports a pair of upwardly directed arms 21. These arms 21 are pivotally mounted at their bottom ends on the bracket 26.
The arms 21 are pivotally mounted at their top ends'to intermediate portions of the arms 2|. The bracket 26 is supported on a rod 28 in end alignment with the rod 24 and which supports a bottom bracket 29. The bottom bracket 29 has a lug 29 through which a rod 39 slidably passes. A wing screw 3| holds the rod 30 in various positions relative to the bottom bracket 29. The rod 30 extends upwards and at its top end is fixedly connected with a projecting lug 23 formed in the bracket 23'.
The display form may be supported on the conventional display stand having a vertical rod which may engage into the bottom of the bracket 29 which may then be clamped therein by the wing screw 32. The wing screw 3| may be loosened and the rod 3|] may be forced upwards r or downwards to move the brackets 23 and it and the rods 24 and.28 together or apart. This indirectly causes th arms 2| to spread outwards or move inwards and so the form portions Ill and NW may be placed in various adjusted posi-' tions. In this way the form portions maybe made to accommodate jackets or coats of various sizes. When a jacket or coat is engaged on the form it conceals the body of the form and only certain portions of the shirt |2 are exposed. The appearance is such that one believes that the shirt I2 is. open and engaged on the form. There is no indication that the shirt I2 is in its normally folded position, as sold by the stores.
The form portion It at the top is formed with a recess 33 (see particularly Fig. 8) into which the hinged section l5 of the bracket l5 may-be engaged; as indicated by the dot and dash lines l5, when the form is not being used.
In Figs. 9-13 inclusive a modified form of the invention is disclosed which is very similar to the prior form distinguishing merely in the fact that the form body portion HI is provided with a slot 35 formed in the bottom of the recessed area H3.
The bottom portion |2 of the shirt is adapted to be engaged through the slot 35 into the interior form. A rod 36 is pushed through the bottom folded area of the folded shirt |2 so that there are extending end portions 36.
The end portions t6 are slipped into the head portions 31 of bars 31. The bars 31 are slidably engaged in sockets 38 of brackets 39. Set screws 40 hold the bars 3'! in various adjusted positions. The brackets 39 are slidably engaged on a bar 40 which is fixedly mounted through one of the arms 2|, namely the rearmost arm 2|. Set screws 4| hold the brackets 39 in various laterally adjusted positions. The form portion I0 is provided wth a back opening lfl which is normally closed by a removable section Ill removably held by several fastening elements 42.
It is necessary that the section It) be removed so that access may be had to the bars 36 and 31. In other respects this form of the invention is similar to the previous form and like parts are identified by like reference numerals.
This display form is used substantially the same as the prior form except that the folded shirt |2 may be tautly held down by the rod 36. The slot 35 in the bottom of the recess I0 is large enough to permit the rod 36 to be passed through when the bottom portion of the shirt is engaged through said opening 35. Then the bars 31 are slipped upon the ends of the rod 36.
When the means for holding the front and back portions, Ili and lfl is manipulated to spread the portions of the form body; the arms 2| will move, thus moving th bar 40 which indirectly moves the rod 36 pulling taut the shirt l2. It is advisable that the parts be so positioned that the rear arm 2| moves rearwards during the adjustment of the portions |ll and Hi of the form. This will pull the bottom portion of the folded shirt |2 rearwards.
In Figs. 14 and 15 another embodiment of the invention has been disclosed which is similar to the prior form, distinguishing merely in the means for releasably holding the folded shirt in position on the form. In accordance with this embodiment, a strip of binding material 50 is mounted upon the front of the form so that; there are opposed side portions 50 of binding material, and a bottom portion 50 The edges of the folded shirt are engaged within this binding material which serves to support the shirt in position in; conjunction with the support mechanism of the neck portion of the shirt. In other respects this form of the invention is similar to the previous forms.
In Fig. 16 another embodiment of the invention is disclosed which is very similar to the form shown in Figs. 14 and 15 distinguishing merely in the fact that binding material 50' has been used which has a plurality of downwardly stamped lug portions 50 which resiliently grip the edge portions of the folded shirt.
In Fig, 17 another embodiment'of the invention is shown in whichbinding material 50" has beenused, which is substantially of Z-shape in transverse cross section. Fastening elements 52 secure one of the arms of the binding strips 50" to the material'of the form. The other of the arms engages over the edges of the folded shirt. The folded shirt |2 is placed upon a backing member 53' which isadapted to hold the shirt forwards against the front arms of the binding strip 50".
