Description

(No Model.)
B. GOLVIN. Hand-Truck.
- Patented May 11 W60 '1 v- ATTORNEYS ".FETERS. F310) UTHOGRAPHER, WASMNGTDN, D. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENONI GOLVIN, OF FREEPORT, ILLINOIS.
HAN D-TRUCK.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 227,489, dated May 11, 1880.
Application filed March 13,1880.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, BENo'NI GOLVIN, of Freeport, in the county of Stephenson and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand Trucks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The figure of the drawing is a perspective view of my hand-truck.
My invention relates to hand-trucks; and it consists in the construction of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
The truck consists of three bars arranged and braced as follows: The side bars, A, have the straight portions (6, which curve upwardly to form handles a. The central bar, B, has the straight part b, which curves up andthen round to form the overhanging straight part b.
C O O are three cross brace-bars, and D is v a brace-rod passing through the curved parts of all three bars. This frame is supported on rollers E, the axles of which are journaled in the bearings e.
F F are brace-rods extending from the bars A to the overhanging portion of bar B. The overhanging portion of bar B is slotted, as at G, to receive a lever, H, which is pivoted in the forward end of the slot.
(No model.)
The lever has grappling-hooks I, so that a box or bale may be grappled, and by operating the lever the article can be swung on the truck, the lower horizontal portions of the three bars constituting a base for the same to rest on. The slot is of considerable length, so as to allow free play of the lever.
This arrangement forms a cheap, simple, strong, and desirable truck.
What I claim is-- 1. In a truck, the side bars, A, and the central bar, B, said side bars having the straight portions a, and the central bar having a straight part, b, which curves upwardly and extends forward to form the straight overhanging and slotted part b, said overhanging part being provided with a pivoted lever having grappling-hooks, substantially as set forth.
2. A truck composed of the three bars A, A, andB, having the straight and curved parts, as set forth, said bars being braced an d supported upon rollers, as specified.
In testimony that 1 claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
BENONI COLVIN,
