SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 227,333, dated May 4, 1880.
Application filed September 16, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS WEIHE, of Connellsville, in the county of Fayette and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Attachment for Miners Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
Figure l is a perspective view of a miners lamp to which my improvement has been applied. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, partly in section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish a miners lamp which shall be so constructed as to conduct the flame upward when moved forward, so that it will give more light and also protect the top of the lamp and the head of the miner from the flame and heat.
A represents the oil-chamber of the lamp, B the wick-tube, G the cap, and D the suspending-hook, of a miners lamp, all of which are of the usual construction. The lamp may be made of any desired style or pattern.
To the wick-tube B is attached, or with it'is connected, a shield or reflector, E, which should extend above and around said tube B but the said shield or reflector is open in front. By this use of the shield or reflector E the flame of the lamp will be spread out, directed, and reflected, so that the lamp will throw a much brighter light forward than the ordinary lamp, and when the lamp is carried forward the flame will be conducted upward, so that the cap 0 and the head of the miner will be protected from the heat of the flame.
