Further objects of my invention-are', tto 'provide agolf glove having means in the form of a loop on ."thesideof the glove opposite from the thumb side for receiving the'sh'aft of 'fthe yclub torn'a-in` tain the same linproper vposition in "the p'layers hand and enabling the shaft to be firmly gripped While being swung, which club engaging and retaining means in nowise interferes with th'e gripping of the shafts of those clubs used in making approach shots, for instance, niblicks, spoons, putters, and the like, and further, to provide a glove of the character referred to wherein the club shaft engaging means on the side of the glove is associated withexible reinforcing means that extends transversely across the back of the glove and which reinforcing means is of material advantage in supporting that portion of the palm of the hand that directly engages the shaft of the club.

With the foregoing and other objects in View, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts that will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:

The vmeans .utilized for providing 'afclub s'haft engaging iloopon the side of the glove 'opposite fromfthe thumb side and for reinforcing :the bac'k of the glove and 'particularly thatportion overlying the knuckles, comprises a pair vof :straps 'Il and 1I8, preferably'iform'ed of Tleather., :and which are lirmly secured by stitching or :otherwise to the back II of the glove la'shor-tYdistarro'e.rearwardly from thef-inneriendslofthelinger 'receivinglmernberstlz: x .'heend'of strap IIB that t'erminates 'immediately to the rear of the member I2 that receives the little finger of the players hand carries a buckle I and the corresponding end of the strap I'I is extended a suflicient distance so that when rebent toward the side of the glove it forms a loop 20 for the reception of the club shaft or handle. This loop extension 'of strap II is provided with perforations 2 I for the reception of the tongue of buckle I9, thus enabling the size of the shaft receiving loop to be increased or decreased as desired.

The end portions of the straps I'I and I8 adjacent the thumb receiving opening I3 may cross each' other as illustrated in Fig. 2.

In the modified construction illustrated in Fig. 4, a single reinforcing member 22, preferably of leather, is secured on the back of the glove a shortI distance rearwardly from the finger receiving members and on the side of lthe glove opposite the thumb side, said reinforcing member terminates in a loop forming strap 23 provided with perforations 24 and with a shorter strap 25 that carries a buckle 26 for the reception of the perforated end portion of strap 23.

When applied to the players hand, th'e glove is maintained in such position by engaging the socket carried by the plate I5 upon the stud I6. Thus the loop 2l] projects outwardly from the side of the players hand opposite from the thumb side and when a club such as a driver or brassie is used for driving the ball, lthe end of the 'club :haft or handle is inserted through vthe loop and the shaft or handle is then swung downwardly into engagement with the palm portion of zthe glove immediately to the rear of the finger receiving members l2.

Such action imparts pulling strains to the loop and consequently draws the back of the glove and particularly that portion that carries the straps l1 and i8, into contact with the back of the hand so as to provide an effective reinforcement across the knuckles and that portion of the back immediately to the rear of the knuckles.

The thumb and fingers are now brought together so as to firmly grasp the shaft and the latter, as a result of its engagement in the loop on the side of the glove, is firmly connected thereto so as to minimize possibility of relative move-r ment between tlre hand and the shaft during the down swing of the club head and the follow through.

While not engaged on the shafts of drivers, brassies, and the like, the shaft engaging loop extends outwardly from the side of the players hand opposite the thumb side and in such position it in nowise interferes with the free movement of the hand and fingers in gripping the shafts of clubs utilized for making approach shots and for putting.

Thus it will be seen that I have provided a golfers glove that is relatively simple in construction, inexpensive of manufacture and very effective in performing the functions for which it is intended.

It will be understood that minor changes in the size, form and construtcion of the various' parts of my improved golfers glove, may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claims.

I claim as my invention:

1. The combination with a golfers glove having a palm portion, a back and finger receiving portions, of a fiexible loop secured to and projecting from the back of the glove on the side opposite the thumb side.

2. The combination with a golfers glove having a palm portion, a back and nger receiving p0rtions, of an adjustable loop secured to and projecting from the back of the glove on the side opposite the thumb side.

3. The combination with a golfers glove having a palm portion, a back and linger receiving portions, of a reinforcing member secured to and extending across the back of the glove adjacent that portion that overlies the knuckles of the wearer's hand and a exible loop projecting from the end of said reinforcing member on the side of the glove opposite from the thumb side.

4. The combination with a golfers glove having a palm portion, ya back and finger receiving portions, of a reinforcing member secured to and extending across the back of the glove adjacent that portion that overlies the knuckles of the wearers hand and an adjustable loop projecting from the end of said reinforcing member on the side of the glove opposite from the thumb side.

5. Ihe combination with a golfers glove having a palm portion, a back and finger receiving portions, straps secured on the back of the glove and projecting from the side of said glove opposite the thumb side and means for connecting the projecting ends of said straps to form a club shaft receiving loop.

6. The combination with a golfers glove, of reinforcing means secured to and disposed transversely on the back of the glove and a flexible loop extending outwardly from one end of said reinforcing means.

7. The combination with a golfers glove, of reinforcing means secured to and disposed transversely on the back of the glove, a iiexible loop extending outwardly from one end of said reinforcing means and means for adjusting the size of said loop.
