Application October 16, 1940, Serial No. 361,458 (Cl. 210-201) 2 Claims.
The present invention relates generally to new and useful improvements in sewage clarifying filters and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a take-off slide of a novel construction and arrangement for cleanly removing the pulp or cake from theretating foraminous drum.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide'a take-off slide of the aforementioned character which is adapted to be conveniently adjusted as desired toward or away from the drum to meet various conditions.
Still another very important object of the invention is to provide unique means for spraying water or air on the pulp at a point closely adjacent that at which said pulp is engaged by the slide to facilitate the clean removal of said pulp.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a take-off slide of the character set forth which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efficient and reliable in use, compact and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specifica tion, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
be seen that the reference numeral I designates a substantially trough shaped tank which is provided with a suitable removable cover 2. Traversing the tank I is the perforated intake end portion of an outlet pipe 3. Rotatably mounted on the outlet pipe 3 is a foraminous filtering drum 4. The inlet to the tank I is indicated at 5.
Mounted in any suitable manner in an upper portion of the tank I adjacent the inlet end thereof is a plurality of transversely extending beams 6. Resting on the beams 6 is an inclined, slidably adjustable plate I of suitable material, preferably metal.
The inclined plate I is adjustable toward and away from the upper portion of the drum 4. Toward this end, rods 8 have one end connected in any suitable manner to the plate I and their other ends anchored in the remote end wall of the tank I. Interposed in the rods 8 are tumbuckles 9 for adjusting the plate I. The edge of the plate I which is adjacent the drum 4 is beveled, as at I0, for cutting the pulp II from the drum 4.
. The reference numeral I2 designates a casing of angular cross section having one edge hingedly connected at I3 to the lower side of the plate 1 for swinging adjustment beneath said plate. The casing I2, in conjunction with the plate 1, defines a chamber I4. On the free edge of the casing I2 is mounted a rubber blade I5. Adjusting screws I6 are mounted in the plate I and threadedly engaged with the casing I2 for moving the blade I5 toward or away from said plate for varying the spray slot or passage II as desired.
Extending through the chamber I4 is a spray pipe I8 the perforations I9 of which are directed toward the slot H. The spray pipe I8 extends transversely across the tank I and merges, at one end, with a supply line 20'. The supply line 20 includes a ball joint 2| and a suitable control valve 22. At its other end, the spray pipe I8 terminates in an upturned, capped end portion 23 adjacent one side of the tank I.
It'is thought that the operation of the device will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, as the foraminous drum 4 rotates the pulp II is removed therefrom by the inclined plate I, the pulp that has thus been I beneath and remove said pulp cleanly. By simply rotating the turnbuckles 9 the plate I may be conveniently and accurately adjusted to position the beveled edge I 0 thereof accurately with respect to the foraminous drum 4. It may be here said that at no time is the cutting edge In of the adjustable plate I to touch the foraminous drum 4. The fluid from the pipe I8 also serves the purpose of washing the pulp or cake down over the inclined plate 'I from the lower end of which said employed formaintaining the water in the tank I at the'co'rrect level.
It is believed that the many advantages of a take-ofl slide constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device 10 is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will iall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
1. A take-oil slide for removing pulp from the periphery of a rotary drum comprising a plate having a cutting'edge disposed close to said periphery, a casing of angular cross-section beneath said plate and having a bottom converging toward the cutting edge and spaced below the same whereby said plate and casing form together a gradually restricted fluid containing chamber having an outlet opening onto said periphery below the cutting edge oi the plate for the discharge of fluid under pressure out of the opening beneath the pulp being removed by said cutting edge, and means to introduce fluid under pressure into said chamber.
2. A take-oil slide for removing pulp from the periphery of a rotary drum comprising a plate having a cutting edge disposed close to said periphery, a casing of angular cross-section beneath said plate and having a bottom converging toward the cutting edge and spaced below the same whereby said plate and casing form together a gradually restricted fluid containing chamber 15 having an outlet opening onto said periphery below the cutting edge of the plate for the discharge of fluid under pressure out of the opening beneath the pulp being removed by said cutting edge, means to introduce fluid under pressure into 20 said chamber, said casing being swingably mounted on the plate for adjustment into diflerent positions to vary the size of said outlet.
