Application July 10, 1940, Serial No. 344,804
1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in what may be termed a demonstration card file.
As a matter of general information, it may be stated that filing systems are sold by many companies who have different methods of set-up, such as alphabetical, geographical, numerical, and subject or date filing, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a portable collapsible sample or dummy filing case of very light weight that may be easily and readily carried by a salesman in compact form, for the purpose of demonstrating a card or filing system, in lieu of the usual heavy solid drawer or tray filled with cards.
The device may also be used to advantage by salesmen who carry samples of index cards, index guides, letter folders, or other supplies pertinent to a vertical filing system.
With the foregoing and other objects in view that will appear as the nature of my invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, which are for illustrative purposes only and are therefore not drawn to scale:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a demonstration card file, constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a central longitudinal section, taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a vertical transverse section, taken on line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a horizontal section, taken on line 44 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is an edge view of the device as it appears when collapsed.
Figure 6 is a plan view of the device when collapsed, and Figure 7 is a bottom plan view of the collapsed article.
Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of my invention, and in which drawings like parts are designated by like reference characters throughout the several views, A designates my improved demonstration card file, as a whole, comprising the fiat rectangular oblong bottom member I and the hinged side and end members 2 and 3, respectively.
In carrying out my invention, the device is divided into two corresponding front and rear collapsible sections 4 and 5 by the centrally disposed longitudinally spaced partitions 6 and l.
The partitions 6 and I are hinged at their upper marginal edges, as at 8 and 9, to the adjacent inner edges of the top members HI and II and the latter in turn are hinged at their outer edges to the upper marginal edges of the end members 3, of the device. The lower edges of the partitions 6 and l are also hinged, as at l2 and I3, to' the upper face of the bottom member I.
The upper faces of the collapsible sections 4 and 5 are designated A-l, B2, Bi-3, 6-5,
Ch-6 and Co-2 to represent card divisions or sections l4 and each card division is marked with lines, as IE, to represent the upper marginal edges of cards.
A space I6 is left between the collapsible sections 4 and 5 when in upright position, in which is inserted a pack of cards, as H, by the salesman, for the purpose of demonstration.
The side members 2 are provided on their inner faces adjacent their upper edges, With the longitudinal ribs or strips I8, which fit in the opposite ends and top portions of the collapsible sections 4 and 5, when in normal or upright position. Elastic cords I9 and 20 are secured at their ends to the front and rear corners of the side members 2 of the device and extend transversely across the adjacent end members 3 when in normal position.
The device is constructed of card-board, wood, metal or other light material and in practice, is carried by the salesman .in a very compact collapsed condition. In making a demonstration to merchants, business concerns, or other possible buyers, the collapsible sections l and :5 are first raised into normal position, as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, and first one and then the other of the side members 2 swung outwardly and upwardly against the ends of the collapsible sections. The elastic cords l9 and 28 are then passed over the upper edges of the front and rear end members 3, to hold the parts in place. After .thus assembling the parts, a package of sample cards, at 2|, is placed in the space It between the collapsible sections 4 and 5, and may be used to more fully demonstrate the nature of the particular system offered.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it is thought that the construction, operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood, without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportions and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principles or sacgpeaeoe bers provided on their inner faces adjacent their upper edges with longitudinal ribs or strips adapted to engage the opposite ends and top portions of the front and rear collapsible members when the latter are in upright position and elastic cords fastened to the corners of the side members and adapted to extend across the ends of the collapsible members.
ROBERT S. DANIEL.
