Application October 24, 1938, Serial No. 236,708 '1 Claim. (c1. sa -4'1) Calif.
These heating units extend through the rear of the lugs 3 and 4, and the electrical conduit wires are attached to these heating units in the usual and well-known manner.
The prime object of our invention is to provide a novel steam super-heating means in an electric sadiron so that the ejected steam is dry and no drops of moisture can fall on the material which is being pressed to spot or injure the same.
Still another object of our invention is to provide a novel construction in a pressing sadiron, including an integrally formed sole plate and heating lugs..
Other objects, advantages and features of invention may appear from the accompanying drawing,'the subjoined detailed description and the appended claim.
line 3-4 Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Figure 2.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on line 66 of Figure '1.
Figure 7 is a fragmentary bottom plan view of the sole plate.
Referring more particularly to the drawing. the numeral l indicates the body of our sadiron, which includes a sole plate 2' and a pair of longitudinally extending heating lugs 3, 4, which are spaced transversely of the iron, substantially as shown in Figures 2 and 5. The reason for spacing the lugs 3 and 4 is to enable the heating elements to more quickly heat the sole plate and have greater efficiency, since a smaller mass oi metal above the sole plate must be heated. A cover plate 5 is removably mounted on the body 9 in the usual and well-known manner, and this cover plate includes the usual handle 6, by means of which the sadiron is operated. A heating element 1, preferably ofthe cartridge type and known as a "Calrod" heater in the trade, extends longitudlnally through the lugs 3 and l.
Steam is introduced into the iron through a pipe 8, and the flow of steam is controlled by a valve 9 of usual and well-known construction. The steam after entering through the pipe 8 passes into a substantially V-shaped super-heating duct Hi. This duct is drilled in the lugs 3, 4
and is adjacent the electrical heating unit 1.
Thus, the incoming steam is reheated or superheated to prevent condensation. After the steam traverses the duct Ill, it passes downwardly at the rear of the iron through the passage ll, into the distributingiduct l2. The duct I2 is drilled in the sole plate 2 and is arranged substantially in a V, as shown at l3, at the forward or point end of the iron. A plurality of outlet ports M are drilled from the bottom face of the sole plate 2 into the distributing duct l2. These ducts are drilled at an angle towards the inner portion of the sole plate so that steam is ejected inwardly and under thesole plate, thereby more effectively dampening the material'which is being pressed. The ports 14 are drilled into the V portion l3 of the distributing duct, so that the rear portion of the sole plate then passes over the dampened area to more effectively press the material.
Having described our invention, we claim:
In an electrical sadiron comprising a body, said body including a sole plate and upstanding lugs integrally formed with the sole plate, and ex-- tending longitudinally thereof, an electrical heating element in each of the upstanding lugs, and extending longitudinally thereof, said upstanding lugs having super heating ducts formed therein, the super heating ducts being arranged adjacent the heating elements and parallel thereto, said sole plate having a distributing duct arranged therein, means to supply one of said super heating ducts with steam, and conduit means to conduct the super heated steam to said distributing duct, said sole plate having a plurality of outlet ports extending ther'ethrough into the distributing duct. I
ALBERT TISNERAT. MAX COONEN.
