ELECTRIC DRY SHAVER Filed Aug. 14, 1959 INVENTOR HUBERT LEE STFHNBROOK Patented Dec. 23, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE creases.
Calif.
Application August 14, 1939, Serial No. #89,? 2 claim. 40!. 30-43) An object of this invention is to provide a dry shaver which shall be of simple construction and therefore of inexpensive manufacture. and yet which will prove thoroughly practical and 'efficient in use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a shaver that is easily handled and will give a located within the device by Ian means above the cutter.
An advantage of the invention is the novel rounded contour of the device which permits the user to contact every possible concave of the face and body and which permits the cutting of hair in any direction.
The invention may have a variety of applications and certain of the features of construction may be embodied in a variety of structures.
Other objects, advantages and features of the I N '25 hole 22 into the receptacle I i where it is removed.
invention may appear from the accompanying drawing, the subioined detailed description and the appended claims.
The accompanying drawing illustrates the in- I vention. v
Figure 1 is a planview of the invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the invention showing the location of the electric switch and streamlined contour and also shows the spherical I cutting head.
7 iiat view of the spherical head, showing arrange- :lelnt of the various combinations of cutting a. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the cutter. Fig. 6 is a front elevation of Fig. 5.
Fig. 'I shows another form and construction of a cutting head that may be attached to the invention as shown.
Fig, 8 isanother formof construction showinginethod of shaft drive "and connection to .the
cutter from the motor.-
The invention comprises a housing I. cover 2 and'a spherical cutting head I and a door 4 that made of aluminum. Bakelite or the like.
tion 5 in which is located the motor 6 that is held in place by the frame I held fixed to the housing i by bolts I and the lower section 3 provides for a vacuum chamber II and a hair 5. receptacle II that surrounds the vacuum chamber ii.
Motor I is provided with a long shaft ii that 1 extends downwardly through the lower section ii and is provided with left hand threads it upon 10 which is mounted at the end thereof a cutter it.
Brushes II are shown which are set in the upper section 8 and rest against the commutator it which are of the usual construction.
To cool the motor a fan i1 is provided that 1 is mounted on the motor shaft It at the bottom of the upper section I and draws air through the vent hole It forcing it around the motor and out theholes ll of the cover 2.
A main bearing is shown at II that is centrally located in the housing i. 1 To draw the hair from the cutter head 3 and the cutter it up through .the vacuum chamber "(a vacuum fan 2| mounted on shaft i2 is provided that also forces the hair through the by the operator when desired by opening the door 6. l
The door 4 is so constructed to fit snugly in place and is provided with a hinge 23, vent hole so and a spring clip which is of the usual construction. 7 -Asshownin1"ig. f thedrawing the cutter head I is so constructed and arranged to fit snugly in the lower section as at I! and is reas movably held in place by the screws 21. This head is of spherical shape and is provided with a plurality of slots to of' different lengths and holes 29 of different sizes so spaced as shown in. l'igs.2and4ofthedrawingtopcrmitaclean so and close shave due to the'user being able to' contact every possible concave of the face and body. J The cutter ll is provided with blades II conas shown in the drawing and they set in the cutter head and will automatically keep themselves sharpened.
The electric switch 3! is located in the center of the housing i. this gives better control 01' the motor and It indicates the electric cord. Motor solbeingoihighspeedalwaysturnstotheright and thecutter it is screwed left hand on to the 7 shift is; this gonstruction' keeps the cutter al- The housing! is divided into-an upper, sec-o screws in.
Referring to Fig. '7 a modified cutting head 33 is shown in which is mounted a cutter 3!.
Referring to Fig. 8 shows a motor shaft 35 be ing threaded at its end 36 that permits the end 37 of shaft 38 to screw into being of left hand thread and a square shoulder 39 is provided upon which is mounted the fan 40. a The shaft 38 is provided at its lower end with a pin N that is slidably mounted in theslot 42 of the cutter 43 and a cushionspring is mounted in the cutter 43 and acts against the ,shaft 38 as shown. v
I claim: 1. An electric shaver of the character set forth comprising a housing provided with a cover at one end having a plurality of holes therein and a spherical cutting head at its other end; said cutting head having a plurality of slots and holes therein arranged over the surface to contact every possible concave of the face and body; said housing being divided into two sections; a motor mounted in one section and having an armature shaft extending into the other section having a cutter mounted thereon provided with a plurality .of cutting blades constructed to cut ,over the area of said slots and holes; a vacuum chamber and a receptacle surrounding the vacuum chamber in said section and fan means to remove hair from the vacuum chamber into the receptacle.
2. In an electric shaver.0f the character set forth comprising a housing provided with a cover at one end having a plurality of holes therein and a spherical cutting head at its other end; said cutting head having a plurality'of slots it around the motor and out said cover top holes to cool said motor; a vacuum chamber and a receptacle that surrounds said vacuum chamber and aconnecting passage for passage of air and hair'from the vacuum chamber into the receptacle and means comprising a door to remove said hair from the receptacle.
