Description

Dec. 23, 1941'. G. F. MOKERLIE VENETIAN BLIND BRACKET Filed March 10, 1941 INVENTOIR. 660/76 7 7 Maker/1e ATTORNEYS.
Patented Dec. 23, 1941;
PATENT OFFICE s VENETIAN BLIND BRACKET George F. McKerlie, Sturgis, Mich., assignor to Kersch Company, Sturgis, Mich.
Application March 10,1941, Serial No. 3821564 7 Claims. This invention relates to brackets for supporting Venetian blinds or the like and particularly to such brackets for supporting Venetian blinds having the operating, tilting and lifting mechanism concealed in a channel shaped sheet metal casing. It has for its objects:
First, to provide anew and improved bracket of the type described.
Second, to provide such a bracket with suitable concealing fastening means for holding the ends of the head casing of the Venetian blind against removal and for concealing gaps between the end of the casing and the bracket to give a smooth unobjectionable appearance.
Third, to provide such a bracket which can be made inexpensively from metal stampings and which can be assembled with a minimum of effort.
Fourth, to make such a bracket which can be used at either end of the blind to accommodate either right or left hand fastening members.
Other objects and advantages pertaining to details and economies of construction and operation will appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined in the claims. A preferred embodiment of the invention is-illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of one end of a Venetian blind casing supported by the bracket of this invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the bracket and the fastening means in open position.
Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the bracket with the fastening means in fastening position.
Fig. 4 is a similar view showing the fastening means in open position and showing in dotted lines the pivotal movement of the fastening means from open to closed position.
Fig. 5 is a View of the blank from which the bracket itself is made. I
In Fig. 1, the bracket generally indicated at l is shown supporting a regular channel-shaped Venetian blind casing 2. r. The bracket which is formed of sheet metal consists of a main body portion 3 which is disposed vertically in use. It has a bottom horizontal flange 4 for supporting the bottom of the casing 2 and a top flange 5 and a rear flange 8. Suitable apertures I for attachment of the blind to the window casing or the wall are provided.
Adjacent the forward edge of thebody portion 3 are a pair of struck uphooks 8v and 9. These hooks are vertically aligned and are opposed to one another.
The fastening member generally indicated at 55 l consists of a face plate II and a right angle flange I2. This flange is provided with an "aperture I3 which is adapted to receive the lowermost hook of the bracket as the bracket is'int stalled. One leg ll of this L-shaped aperture extends parallel with the face plate II. The other leg I extends from the bottom of the leg -14 substantially perpendicularly to and away from the face plate.
The L-shaped aperture I3 is so arranged that when the bottom fastening member I0 is in place with the bottom hook 9 in the leg I of the opening l3, the face plate II is supported in front of, at right angles to and above the supporting flange 4. When it is desired to shift the fastening member from this position to the open position which is shown in Fig. 4. the fastening member I0 is raised as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, permitting this fastening member to be moved outwardly and away from the bracket so that the hook 9 passes into the leg [5 of the aperture I3. When this movement has been accomplished, the fastening member can be swung to the lower position shown in Fig. 4 past the dotted line position there shown.
When the fastening member is in flange l2 lies beneath the hook 8.
The flange I2 is cut away as shown. at IE to receive the horizontal flange 4 of the bracket I when the fastening member is in the position shown in Fig. 4. I
It will be appreciated that when this construe-- tion is used only one set of brackets need be produced because the hooks 8 and9 are identically located with respect to the' top and bottom flanges respectively and the front edge of position, the
the body portion 3 of the bracket. Either hook I will serve to receive a fastening member such as the member II), it being necessary, however, 40 to have right and left fastening members. The
- fastening members are easyto install and operate with great ease. v'Ihey serve to retain'the casing of the Venetian blind and to conceal the gaps at the end as shown in Fig. 1. It is possible to have considerable leeway in the length of the casing without having'an unsightly installation.
The terms and expressions which have, been herein employed are used as terms of description and not of limitation, and there is no intention in the use of such terms and expressions of exeluding any equivalents of the features shown and described. It is recognized that various modifications are possible within the scope of the invention claimed.
