Harrow constructions are known which involve an adjustment of the vertical angle of the gangs so that the penetration of the harrow may be varied. It is known both to raise or depress the inner ends of the gangs and also to raise and depress the outer ends. The present invention relates to adjustment of the height of the outer ends of the gangs.
An object of the present invention is to provide an improved bedder disk construction. l
Another object is to provide means for adjust-V ing the vertical angle of the gangs of a bedder disk construction. e
A further object is to provide means 'for adjusting the outer ends of the gangs of a harrow.
According to the present invention harrow gangs are connected at oppositesides of a centrally extending draft member and are connected to one another at their outer ends. There is also a connection between the central draft member and the outer end of each gang, which connection comprises two rods having threaded ends and a threaded sleeve engaging the rods. Rotation of the sleeve causes movement of the rodsv toward or away from one another, a consequent adjustment of the length of the connection, and accordingly a vertical adjustment of the outer end of each gang.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the bedder disk construction of the present invention;
Figure 2 is an elevational view of the front gangs of the bedder disk construction with no vertical angle in the gangs;
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 showing the outer ends of the gangs depressed;
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken along the lines 4 4 of Figure 2; and,
Figure 5 is a detail View partly in section showing a portion of the connection for adjusting the outer ends of the gangs.
The bedder disk construction of the present invention comprises a pair Of front gangs I9, a pair of rear gangs connections between the outer ends of the front and rear gangs, only one such connection I2 being shown, and draft means for the construction comprising a pair of centrally extending members I3 and |4 pivotally connected to one another at I5 and members I6 connected adjacent the outer ends of the front gangs I8 as at I'l and to one another by a pair of housthe member I3. Adjustment of the horizontal angle of the gangs is effected by adjustment ofthe plates |8 and I9 along the length of the draft member I3.
` The plates embrace the draft member I3 and a toothed rack bar 29 thereon which is engaged by a latch, not shown, forming the lower end'of a lever 2| pivotally mounted on the plate I8 and controlled by a rope 22 which may extend to an operators station on a tractor, not shown, for pulling the bedder disk construction. As seen in Figure l, the outer ends of the gangs are further to the rear than the inner ends. Movement of the gangs into line is effected by backing of the construction with the latch engaging the rack bar 20 released so that the ldraft members I3 and |4 may move rearwardly with respect to the plates I8 and I9. As seen in Figure 1, b- ars 23 and 24 are secured as by welding to the top and bottom of the draft member I3 and constitute horizontal transverse extensions of this draft member. Members 25 are pivotally connected to the inner ends of the iront gangs Il! on a horizontal pivot by bolts 26 and extend betweenthe bars 23 and 24 and are pivotally connected thereto on Vertical pivots by bolts 21. A rod 29 extends upwardly from the bar 23 and constitutes a vertical extension of the draft member |3. Secured to the top of the rod 28 is atransversely extending member 29, the ends of which are embraced by the forked ends 30 of rods v3| having threaded ends 32 (see Figure 5). The rods arevpivotally connected to the ends of the member 29 as at 33. As shown in Figure 5, a threaded sleeve 34 engages the threaded end 32 of the rod 3| and also a threaded end 35 of a rod 3B pivotally connected as at 31 (see Figures 2 and 3) to the outer end of a front gang I0. The sleeve 34 has rods 38 secured in threaded engagement therewith for rotation of the sleeve. The
ends 32 and 35 of the rods 3| and 36 are reversely threaded so that rotation of the sleeve 34 causes a movement of the rods 3| and 36 toward or away from one another and a resultant adjustment in the distance between the point 33 constituting the connection between the rod 3| and the vertical extension of the draft member I3 and the point 31 constituting the connection between the rod 35 and the outer end of the gangs I8. Figure 2 shows the front gangs I0 in line with one another as far as vertical angle is concerned. In this position the rods 3| and 36 will be as close to one another as possible, for example as shown in Figure 5. Figure 3 shows the outer ends of the gangs below the inner ends and in this position the spacing between the ends of the rods 3| and 36 has been increased by rotation of the sleeve 34.
Vertical adjustment of the outer ends of the rear gangs II is effected in a similar manner as in the case of the draft member I3, the draft member I 4 has bar members 23 and 24 welded to its top and bottom so as to constitute horizontal transverse extensions of the member I 4, these extensions being pivotally connected to members 25 on vertical pivot bolts 21, the members 25 being in turn pivotally connected on horizontal pivot bolts 25 to the inner ends of the rear gangs II. A rod 28 extends upwardly from the member 23 and constitutesa Vertical extension of the draft member I4. It has a member 29 secured to its upper end. Yoke portions 30 have rods 3| which embrace the ends of a member 29 and are pivotally connected thereto as at 33. The ends of the rods 3I are threaded and are engaged by sleeves 354 which in turn engage threaded ends of the rods 36- pivotally connected at 31.
It will be apparent from the foregoing description that a new and novel bedder disk has been provided by which vertical adjustment of the disks is had through adjustment of the level of the outer ends of the disk. This adjustmentis accomplished by an adjustable connection between the outer end of each gang and a member extending between the gangs. The adjustable connection is composed of two rods having threaded sleeves engaging the threaded ends of the rods.
The intention is to limit the invention only within the terms of' the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
l. In combination, a pair of harrow gangs positioned with their ends adjacent one another, draft means therefor comprising a first member connected to the adjacent ends of the gangs and second and third members connected at one end to the gangs, means connecting the other end of the second and third members to one another and releasably adjustably connecting said other end of the second and third members to the first member for horizontal adjustment of the harrow gangs, and connections between the rst member and the outer end of the gangs for vertical adjustment o-f the gangs, each connection comprising elements connected to the outer end of' a gang and to the first draft member, and a sleeve adjustably secured to the elements for adjustment of the distance between the connections of the elements with the gang and with the first member.
2. A bedder disk construction comprising a front pair of gangs, a rear pair of gangs, means connecting the outer end of the gangs' of one pair with the outer ends of the gangs of the other pair, draft means for the gangs comprising a first member extending between the front gangs and connectedv to the inner ends of the front gangs, a second member extending between the rear pair of gangs and connected to the first member and the inner ends of the rear gangs, and third and' fourth members connected at one end to the front gangs, means connecting the other ends of the third and fourth members to one another and releasably adjustably securing the said other end to the rst draft member for horizontal adjustment of the gangs, and means for vertically adjusting the gangs comprising connections between the first draft member and the outer ends of the gangs of the front pair and between the second draft member and the outer ends of the gangs of the rear pair, each connection comprising rst and second elements connected, respectively, tol the outer end of a gang and to a draft member, and a third element adjustably secured to the first and second elements for adjusting the distance between the connection of the first element with the other endof the gang and the connection of the second element with the draft member.
3. A bedderA disk construction comprising a front pair of gangs, a rear pair of gangs, means connecting the outer ends of the gangs of one pair with the outer ends of the gangs of the other pair, draft means for the gangs comprising a rst member extending between the front pair of gangs and' having horizontal and vertical extensions, the horizontal extensions being connected to the inner ends of the gang of the front pair, a second member connected to the first member and extending between the rear pair of gangs and having horizontal and vertical extensions, the horizontal extensions being connected to the inner ends of the gangs of the rear pair, and third and fourth members connected at one end to the gangs of the front pair, means connecting the other ends of the third and fourth members to one another and adjustably releasably connecting the third and fourth members to the first member for horizontal adjustment of the'` gangs, and means for eecting vertical adjustment of the gangs and comprising connectionsA between the first member and the outer ends of the gangs of the front pair and between the secondmember and the outer ends of the gangs of the rear pair, each connection comprising a first and second element connected, respectively to the outer end of a gang and to the vertical extension of a member and having threaded portions and an internally threaded sleeve engaging the threaded portions of the first and second elements for adjusting the distance between the connection of the rst element with the gang and the connection of the second element with the vertical extension.
4. In combination, a pair of harrow gangs positioned with their ends adjacent one another, draft means therefor comprising a first member connected to the adjacent ends of the gangs and second and third members connected at one end to the gangs, means connecting the other end of the second and third members to one another and releasably adjustably connecting said other end of the second and third members to the first member for horizontal adjustment of the harrow gangs, and connections between the rst member and the outer end of the gangs for vertical adjustment of the gangs, each Vconnection comprising elements connected to the outer end of a gang and to the first draft member and adjustably secured to one another for adjustment of the distance` between the connections of the elements with the gang and with the first member.
