Description

l iatented Nov. 18, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,263,087 GRAVE COVER Purvis T. Hamm, New Braunfels, Tex.
Application August 13, 1940, Serial No. 352,463
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a grave cover and it consists in the constructions, arrangements and combinations herein described and claimed.
It is the cardinal purpose of the invention to provide a grave cover which will effectively protect the grave against wed g'rowth, as well as prevent sinking of the grave, and in addition function as an attractive marker for the grave.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a grave cover of economical construction, and one which is adjustable to different grave lengths.
Additional objects, advantages and features of invention will be apparent from the following description considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, wherein,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my grave cover.
Figure 2 is a cross sectional view on the line.
2--2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an end view of the cover. I There is illustrated a grave cover Ill, consisting of two sections II and I2. The sections are illustrated as being of semi-circular formation, the section I I being formed on a radius less than the section I2, so that the former section may be snugly nested within'the latter, as clearly illustratedin the drawing. While the sections are illustrated and described as semi-circular in forhorizontal flanges I5 of respective sections. 'The I legs I4 are of a length to be forced into the ground adjacent the boundaries of a grave for firmly securing the cover in position thereover.
As may be clearly seen in Figures 1 and 2, when the sections II and I2 are in nested position, the flanges I5 of the section I2 rest upon the flanges I5 of the section II and obviously, the sections maybe longitudinally moved with respect to one another in order to accommodate graves of different lengths. I
In order to reinforce the sections I I and I2 against lateral spreading and to maintain adjustment of the sections, a tie plate or brace I6 is employed, having hook ends I! adapted to engage over the lapped flanges I5 of the sections.
As shown in Figures 1 and 3,, an end I3 of the coveris provided with an open loop I8, horizontally positioned to receive a marker stake I9, the latter being suitably driven in the ground for retention.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have provided a grave cover of extreme simplicity yet of sturdy construction and affording a grave complete protection from weed growths as well as the.
extended flange at its base and, an end wall, one
of the sections having a radius less than the other section and arranged to be nested therewithin' and to bring the flanges into superposed abutting relation, a leg on the outermost corners of each flange, of a length to penetrate the ground for retention of the sections in nested relation and a brace plate extended transversely of the sections, said plate having hooked ends adapted to engage over and lie parallel with the overlapped flanges.
