Description

Patented Nov. 11, 1941 r UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FLUORESCENT "IUBE SIGN Edward John Faltings, Brooklyn, N. Y. Application November 14, 1940, Serial No. 365,691
I the same time is permitted to shine in all direc- 1 Claim. This invention relates to a fluorescent tube sign and has for an object to provide a sign including a light source in the nature of a fluorescent tube which may be operated from a 110-,
' cut-outs forming the advertising matter.
A further object is to provide a fluorescent tube sign which in addition to employing the tube as a background for the advertisingmatter also employs the tube to illuminate a base for the tube, the base having advertising matter displayed thereon and attached thereto, illuminated simultaneously with the advertising matter on the tube itself.
A further object is to provide apparatus, of this character which will be formed of a few strong, simple and durable parts, which will be inexpensive to manufacture, andwhichwill not easily get out of order. l j
With the above and other objects inview the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of theinvention. I
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification: V
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a fluorescent tube sign constructed in accordance with the invention. 4
Figure 2 is a rear elevation of the sign shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an end elevation of' the sign showing advertising matter carried by the base and illuminated by the tube. V
Figure {l is an end elevation of a modified form of the invention showing the front side of the base as vertical instead of sloped as in Figure 3. Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of referencedesignate similar parts in the various views, Ill designates a fluorescent light tube adapted to be excited by a ll-volt current and including spaced terminal supporting socket members ll formed integral with standards l2 which are mounted in any preferred Advertising matter I4 is tions around the tube without obstruction so as to illuminate merchandise on display as well as other advertising matter carried by the base.
The base I3 is in the nature of an elongated box having the front wall 14" sloped downwardly and forwardly, or the front wall may be vertical if desired as shown at H5 in Figure 4. Where the front wall is sloped as shown in Figure 3 the standards l2 are set close to the front edge of the top Wall 20 as indicated by broken 4 a display stand 20', of inverted U-shaped contour, to the base. The display stand is provided with a sloped top 2| upon which an article 22 of merchandise may be supported to be illuminatedby the fluorescent tube. i
From the above it will be seen that the fluojrescent light tube displays advertising matter without the use of cut-outs so that the .light from the tube is unobstructed and may illuminate advertising matter carried in front of, and
the construction and operation of the invention will be fully understood without further ex planation.
What is claimed is:
A sign comprising, a horizontally disposed fluorescent tube, a base, spaced terminal sup porting socket members on the ends of the tube, standards integral with the socket members secured to said base, said base being an elongated box having a front wall sloped downwardly and forwardly and displaying matter forming a sign, the standards being disposed close to the front edge of the top wall of the box to dispose the tube to illuminate thesign on the sloped front wall by light rays from the bottom of the tube, a placard securing'm'eans secured to the rear wall of the base, and a placard supported in vertical position by said means extending above the top wall of the base and adapted to be illuminated by light rays from the back of the tube.
