3 Claims. (01. 240-128) Myinvention relates to lighting fixtures andmore particularly to light transmission shields of glass or other transparent or semi-transparent material for enclosing or shielding fluorescent lamp tubes or other types of lamp tubes.
Briefly stated, my invention comprises a shield or trough of glass or the like, together with means for supporting it in position beneath a lamp tube or tubes, in an improved manner, and constitutes a modification of the invention disclosed in my application Serial No. 354,526, filed August 28, 1940.

Another object of my invention is to provide an arrangement whereby stock lengths of shield elements can be employed in connection with lamp tubes of various lengths, rendering unnecessary the forming of shield elements of certain particular lengths'to flt over each of various lengths of lamp tubes.
As shown in the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a cross-sectional view through an illumisockets and bracket elements I and 8 that are in turn supported from a ceiling by hanger rods 6 that may serve as wiring conduits, in any of well known conventional ways, the wiring and other detail parts being omitted herefrom, since they form no part of my invention.

3 is supported by the bracket element 8 and extending throughout the length of the tube 5, it being understood that it is common practice to employ a plurality of lamp tubes 5 in a single unit. The member 9 is of generally channel form and has flanges I0 and H for supporting the shield. h
The shield-is shown as composed, of a plurality of elements I2, formed of glass or other transparent or transluscent material, such asvarious ofthe molded plastics. The elements l2 are shown as provided with ribs, flutes .or the tubes, which tubes are made in various lengths. Each unit I! has flanges it formed on its longitudinal edges, for engagement with the flanges or ledges Hi and H, so that vertical sup-- port is thereby provided for the elements. The flanges ll are of such width that they will not become dislodged from the flanges l0 and II through sidewise sliding or shifting of the elements. When it is desired to remove an element l2 from the holder 9,. one side thereof is raised a slight distance, as indicated by the arrow I5,

By this combined lifting and lateral sliding movement at one edge of the unit II, the flange M at the opposite edge will be shifted clear of the ledge H, whereupon that side of the element IZ-can be lowered out of the holder 9 and the element thus removed from the holder.
Adjacent ends of the elements I2 are recessed or flanged as shown at [8, to receive the flanges of a joining ring or yoke l9, that is of T-shape in cross section, the leg or stem 20 of the member l9 extending between the extremities of adjacent elements l2. The member l9 has a flange 2| formed on each of its ends, corresponding to the flanges II at the front and rear edges of the elements l2. These yokes 19 are inserted and removed irom the holders by a combined raising, lateral shifting and tilting movement, as are the elements l2. Ordinarily they will be placed in position after the elements l2 are inserted in the holder. Also, after removal of one element the yokes can he slid longitudinally of the ledges, to free an adjacent element for removal. Also, the shield elements can be slid longitudinally relative to the yokes. To provide continuity of pattern or appearance when desired, the yokes 19 have ribs or flutes 22 formed thereon in longitudinal alignment with the flutes and ribs 13.
The yokes or joining elements II Unceal the space which would otherwise be present between adjacent ends or the elements l2 and also obstructs the light rays which would otherwise pass between such ends, as well as assisting in keeping out dust. The endmost shield elements l2 have and walls 23 formed thereon, but end walls of metal plates or the like can be employed for closing the extremities of the shield.
I claim as my invention:
1. A lamp shielding device comprising horizontally-disposed shield-holding flanges and means for supporting them at opposite sides of a lamp, outwardly-bowed shield elements of trough-like form having their longitudinal edges disposed behind the said flanges and outwardly-bowed joining elements having their extremities disposed behind sald flanges, the adjacent ends of the shield elements extending behind the joining elements,

holding flange, to permit removal of the said elements from the shield-holding flanges.
2. A lamp shielding device comprising horizontally-disposed shield-holding flanges and means for supporting them at opposite sides of a lamp, outwardly-bowed shield elements of trough-like form having their" longitudinal edges disposed behind the said flanges, and outwardly-bowed joining elements having their extremities disposed behind said flanges, thetadjacent ends of the shield elements extending behind the Joining elements, and clearance being provided between the innermost edges of said flanges and the adjacentsides of the shield elements and joining elements, along lines spaced downwardly from their said edges and extremities, whereby when one edge of each element is lifted a slight distance, said element-can he slid laterally to move the opposite edge thereof from behind its associated shield-holding flange, to permit'removal of the said elements from the shield-holding flanges. the said elements being slidable longitudinally on said flanges.
3. A lamp shielding device comprising horizontally-disposed shield-holding flanges and means for supporting. them atopposite sides of a lamp, outwardly-bowed shield elements of trough-like form having their longitudinal edges disposed behind the said flanges, and outwardly-bowed joining elements having their extremities disposed 'behind said flanges, the adjacent ends of the shield elements extending behind the joining elements, and longitudinal depressions being provided in the sides of said elements, along lines spaced below their said edges and extremities, whereby when one edge of each element is lifted a slight distance, said element can be slid laterally to move the opposite edge thereof from behind its associated shield-holding flange, to permit removal of the said elements from the shieldholding flanges, the said elements being slidable longitudinally on said flanges.
