2 Claims. (01. 29-3) This invention relates to slide elements for gar.- ments and while not limited thereto the same has particular reference to improved slide buckles and loops employed on lingerie straps for slips, brassieres, corsets and the like, and to a method of producing the same.
Slide buckles and loopsheretofore used on lingerie straps and the like have been so constructed as to'pres'ent thin sharp inner and outer edges which directly contact with the lingerie strap or ribbon andwhich sharp edges have resulted. after limited use, in a cutting and fraying of the straps or ribbons.
The present invention comprehends lingerie strap slide buckles and loops of continuous tubular construction in cross sectional configuration which presents smooth rounded inner edges defining the openings through which th lingerie strap is slidable as well as smooth rounded outer edges with which the strap engages thereby avoiding cutting and fraying of the strap at the points of contact therewith.
The invention further contemplates a method of producing from thin sheet material lingerie strap slide buckles and loops of continuous tubular formation in cross sectional configuration.
The invention further provides lingerie strap slide buckles and loops which are durable in construction, dainty and attractive in appearance and which greatly facilitate the operation of adjusting the length of the strap, while securely holding the same in adjusted relation.
With, the foregoing and other objects in view the invention is more particularly set forth in the following specification and in the accompanying drawing.

Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, l0 designates a lingerie strap loop ele-. ment which is of general oval formation in plan but may be of any desired contour and. in which is provided an opening I i extending therethrough at right angles to the plane of the loop through which opening the lingerie strap is slidablefor adjusting the effective length of the lingerie loop. The loop, I0 is of continuous or endless tubular construction in cross; sectional configuration throughout the body thereof, the portion of the walls thereof defining the opening H, as well as the portion of the walls defining the outer per. riphery, being of smooth rounded formation thereby avoiding cutting or fraying of the lingers ie strap at the points of contact therewith. The tubular formation, furthermore, provides a light.- weight loop, yet one which is strong and durable as thecross sectional configuration resists bending and distortion thereof.
The loop I0 is preferably constructed by forme ing from fiat sheet metal a fiat blank l2 having an opening [3 therein corresponding in contour to. the general shapjeof the opening I I but of reduced size and also having amarginal edge l4 corresponding substantially in contour to the marginal shape of the finishedrloop but; ofzgreate er size. The blank I2 is then die stamped or otherwise formed into a continuous or endless channel shaped structure in cross sectional configuration and with the inner and outer marginal edgesdefining the opening I3 and the outer marginal rim l4 extending in the same direction.
In die stamping or otherwise forming the blank I2 to the channel shaped cross-sectional configuration shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the metal is caused to flow or expand adjacent the opening l3 so as to enlarge'the said opening to the size of the opening II in the finished loop, while the metal adjacent the outer marginal rim [4 is contracted and reduced in size in shaping the same to the peripheral contour shown in Figs.

The inner and outer free edge portions l and iii are bent towards each other to dispose the free edges thereof into abutting or substantially closed relation as at I! and to change the cross sectional configuration of the partly finished loop element shown in Figs. 3 and 4 to the finished loop element shown in Figs. 5 and 6, having a continuous or endless tubular formation in cross sectional configuration.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. '7 to 12 inclusive, designates a lingerie strap slide buckle which is of general oval formation in plan having medial indentations at the opposite longitudinal edges thereof but which may be of any desired contour and which are provided with a pair of openings 2 and 22 extending therethrough at right angles to the plane of the slide, the openings being separated by a medial cross bar 23 about which one end of the lingerie strap is secured and through which openings 2| and 22 the strap is slidable.
The lingerie slide buckle 20 is of continuous or endless tubular construction in cross sectional configuration throughout the body thereof defining the openings 2! and 22. The tubular cross sectional configuration provides smooth rounded wall portions defining the openings 2| and 22, as well as smooth rounded wall portions defining the outer periphery of the slide buckle. The tubular construction thus provides a lightweight slide buckle which resists bending and distortion thereof and which permits adjustment of the slide buckle on the lingerie strap without the liabiilty of cutting or fraying of the strap at the points of contact with the buckle.
The slide buckle 20 is preferably constructed by producing from fiat sheet metal a flat blank 24 having a marginal edge 25 corresponding substantially in contour to the marginal shape of the finished slide buckle 20 but of greater size and having openings 26 and 21 therein corresponding in contour to the general shape of the openings 2| and 22, but of reduced size. The blank 24 is then die stamped or otherwise formed into a continuous or endless channel shaped structure in cross sectional configuration as shown in Figs. 9 and 10 and with the inner and outer marginal edges defining the openings 26 and 21 and defining the outer marginal rim 25 extending in the same direction.
In forming the blank 24 to the channel-shaped cross sectional configuration shown in Figs. 9 and 10, the openings 26 and 21 are enlarged to the full size of the openings 2! and 22 in the finished slide 20. This is effected by causing the metal adjacent the openings 26 and 21 to flow or expand and the metal adjacent the outer periphery 24 to be contracted with the outer peripheral edge 25 reduced in size to conform to the peripheral contour shown in Figs. 9 and 10 of the drawing.
The inner and outer free edge portions 28 and 23 are then bent towards each other to dispose the said free edges into abutting or substantially closed relation, as shown at 30 to thereby produce a slide buckle of continuous or endless tubular formation in cross sectional configuration, as shown in Figs. 11 to 12 of the drawing.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 13 to 15 inclusive, the lingerie slide 3| is fashioned from a flat blank 32, as shown in Fig. 13, similar to the blank illustrated in Fig. 1, which is then formed by die stamping into the continuous channel-shaped structure shown in Fig. 14. The inner and outer marginal free edge portions 33 and 34 are then bent towards each other into adjacent, closed or abutting relation to each other to provide a flat loop of continuous or endless formation with superimposed upper and lower walls and with an opening extending therethrough at right angles to the plane of the loop. The bending of the inner and outer marginal free edge portions 33 and 34 towards each other provides a smooth, rounded margin 35 defining the said opening, as well as a smooth, rounded margin 36 defining the outer periphery of the loop.
What is claimed is:
1. The method of producing an integral lingerie strap slide element having a pair of slide openings at right angles to the plane of the slide element consisting in forming from sheet metal a flat blank having a pair of openings therein corresponding substantially in contour to the shape of and of lesser size than the openings to be produced in the finished slide and having an outer marginal rim conforming substantially in contour to the marginal shape of the finished slide and of greater area than that of the finished slide and with a transversely extending medial web integrally connected to the opposite sides of said rim between said openings, pressure stamping said blank to enlarge said openings and to bend the free edge portions of said rim and web in a direction to form the rim and web into channel-shape in cross section and then bending the free edge portions of said rim and web to dispose the free edges thereof into adjacent closed relation.
2. A lingerie strap slide element comprising an integral marginal rim of tubular formation in cross section and a transversely extending medial web of tubular formation in cross section and integrally connected with opposite sides of the rim to define a pair of slide openings through said element extending at right angles to the plane of the rim and located one on each side of said Web.
