and as previously constructed, in many instances the devices were of faulty operation because of breakage of the pipe lines of the apparatus due primarily to oxidation of the pipe lines which so weakened them that they could not withstand the vibrations to which they were subjected in use.
It is one object of the present invention to provide an apparatus by which the exhaust gasses of internal combustion motors may be treated to destroy the acid flame therein, thereby to reduce or entirely remove the oxidizing action of said gasses at least to the extent where rubber hose may be employed between the apparatus and the accessories operated by the exhaust gasses after they have been treated.
An important feature of the invention resides in a novel construction whereby the apparatus employed for treatment of the exhaust gasses is mounted directly upon an internal combustion motor in such a manner as to vibrate in unison or uniformly with the motor thereby relieving the several connections between the different elements, of all strain incident to or resulting from the operation of the motor.
Another important object of the invention resides in a novel construction whereby proper and efficient operation of an internal combustion motor to which the invention is attached,is in no way affected but operates in a thoroughly normal manner.
With the above and other objects in view, reference will now be had to the following specification and claims and to the accompanying drawing, wherein,

In the drawing, the reference character A designates the cylinder block of an internal combustion motor, the cylinder head being designated by the reference character B. C designates the compression and firing chamber of one of the cylinders of the motor and it is to be noted that the head B is water jacketed in accordance withthe best construction. in internal combustion motors. The reference numeral D designates thecirculating medium for effecting continuous flow of a cooling medium throughout the water jacket of the head and block, this portion of the system being shownconventionally herein since its specific construction and design are immaterial to the operation of the apparatus of the present invention, so long as it is capable of maintaining a circulation of cooling fluid to satisfy the demand.
The apparatus of the present invention includes a coil l0 formed from a tube l2 having an extremely small passage ll therethrough.
The coil has one end designated l3, extended through a' suitable gland M in the outer wall of the water jacket of the head and the extremity of said end is rigidly secured as at it, to the inner wall of the water jacket of th head. By-
this construction, the coil is rigidly attached to the internal combustion motor in such a manner that it vibrates in unison therewith in a manner and for a purpose which will be here- .inafter described.

The housing H, is also connected.- to the water jacket of the head B, by a flexibletubing 25.
By the above described construction it will be obvious that when the motor is in operation, cooling fluid will be continuously circulated through the housing I1 and into direct heat transfer relation with the coil Ill. As will hereinafter appear, this is an important feature of the present invention.
The reference character 25, designates an expansion tank or chamberwhich is water jacketed as designated by the'reference character-.26 and which has a removable top 21 and a drain plug 28. The expansion chamber 25, is rigidly sup-' ported upon the head B of the motor by two brackets 29 and by means'of a flexible coupling St, the water Jacket of the expansion tank 25,
has communication with the water jacket of the head B. A flexible tubing 3|, also connects the water jacket 26 of the expansion tank 25 with the T-coupling 22 heretofor mentioned and through which thewater jacket 26 of the expantake-oil device l8 by means of a suitable pipe line 35, connected as at 36 to the take-off device and as at 31 to the expansion tank 25. The pipeline 35 discharges directly into a coil 38 which in turn discharges directly into the expansion tank 2'5. Mounted within the tank 25, there is a second coil 40, and having direct communication with this 0011 40, there is a flexible line 4| which leads from the expansion tank 25 to the accessory to be operated or to a suitable storage tank, neither of which are herein illustrated.
In operation, when the compressed charge in the compression chamber C is fired, the gasses pass through the very small passage I l of the coil I and in so doing, a high degree of friction-is produced by reason of the restricted area of said passage. This high degree of friction created by the forcing through the passage ll, of hot gasses. underhighpressure. suppresses the flames present in said gasses, completely destroying said {flames pansion tank and the accessory operated by the gasses or the .tank in which these gasses are to be stored, and since these elements are generallymountedupon the chassis or body of a motor vehicle, this flexible connection permits of independent vibration of the motor and chassis without resulting in rupture of the lead line as is bound to result in such constructions as require a rigid lead line between the several elements of the apparatus.
While the restricted area of the passage ll throughthe tube of the coil W has been described as a means for smothering or otherwise destroying acid flame in the gasses of combustion, this passage has another important function which will now be described.
The high resistance to the passage of gasses through the passage Ii, maintains a'high degree of compressionin the compression chamber C, thus insuring firing of the charge and preventing so-called skipping, of Y the motor which would inevitably result from a too low compression of the gasses in the compression and'flring chamber C.
It will thus be apparent that the present invention provides an apparatus which is highly emand appreciably decreasing the temperature of the gasses as they pass through the small orifice of the tube coil Ill. Also lending materially to the destruction of acid flame and the reduction of temperature of the gasses as they pass through the coil I0, is the circulation of theCooling fluid through the housing I! in direct ontact with the outer surface of the coil lll.
From the coil It, the gasseswpass through the gas take-01f device l8,cthroug h the pipe to the coil 38 in the expansion'tank 25,-from which coil, the gasses aregdischarged directly into the storage tankgr By reason 'of, there'stricted area or the passage ll,"throughj'the-tube of the coil m, by the time the gasses reach the gas take-off device, all acid flame therein has been eliminated and they enter the take-off device l8 merely as gasses under pressure containing a certain proportion of condensate or liquid.
As the gasses enter the expansion tank25, the condensate settles to the bottom -of-saidtank from whence it may be drawn from time to time a a suitable storage tank not shown.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that since all the elements entering into the take-off and expansion of the gasses, are rigidly supported directly by the internal combustion motor/and therefore. vibratein unison therewith, thereby relieving all pipe lines and their connections of all strain which results in operation without interruption from broken lines.
Furthermore, the present construction permits o'f flexible tubing being used between the excient for the purpose intended and while the invention has been herein disclosed in its preferred form, it is to be understood that it is not to be limited to the specific constructions herein shown and that it maybe carried out in other forms within departing from the spirit or scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:
1. In combination, an internal combustion motor having a water jacket, a housing supported directly upon said motor. means for circulating the water of the water jacket through said housing, a coil mounted within said housing and having its ends extending through opposite side walls thereof, one of the ends of the coi1 extending through the water jacket of the motor into communication with the interior of one of the'bylinders thereof, a gas take-off device carried by the opposite end of the coil, a gas storage tank mounted directly upon the motor, said gas storage tank having a water Jacket therearound, and means fbr leading products of combustion from the gas takeofl device to the gas storage chamber.
2.. In combination, an internal combustion motor having a water jacket, a housing supported directly upon said, motor, means for circulating the water of the. water jacket through said housing, a coil mounted within said housing and having its ends extending through opposite side walls thereof, one of the ends of the coil extending through the water jacket of the motor into communication with the interior of one of the cylinders thereof, a gas take-off device carried by the opposite end of the coil, a gas storage tank mounted directlyupon the motor, a water jacket "surrounding the gas storage tank and having communication with the water jacket of the motor, means ,for circulating the water of the motor water jacket through the water jacket of the storage tank, and a pipe connected to the take-off device for leading the .gases therefrom? to the storage tank.
