While my invention may be em'- ployed on any type of a house, it is particularly desirable forV use in tall apartment houses inr large cities where there is no back yard and there is no other available space to air garments.

An object of my invention is to provide a device for airing garments which is completely detachable and which may be readily attached by the tenant in a very short space of time, and which when knocked down takes up a small amount of space for storage purposes.

My invention includes a pair of detachable brackets of the so-called shelf type, each of which is adapted to be secured to the outer surface of a building on each side of a Window in horizontally aligned relationship adapted to have a clothes hanger supporting rod detachably mounted on the free ends thereof projecting out.- wardly from each side of the Window. n

' A further object of my invention is to provide means comprising a clamping rod clamping against the clothes hanger hooks inserted onsaid clothes hanger supporting rod to prevent gusts of wind from raising the garments and clothes hanger hooks from said supporting rod, preferably also clamping each clothes hanger hook in aset position on said clothes hanger supporting rod against movement axially of said rod.

A further object of my invention is to provide a device which will hold six to twelve average mens and womens garments and provide a maximum amount of airing surface for the airing thereof.

A further feature of my invention is that I provide means including a pair of retaining frames each adapted to abut one end of the group of garments mounted on the clothes hanger supporting rod detachably mountable on said clothes hanger sup-portingrod exterior. of said clothes to prevent the individual garments from swaying individually, and permitting the entire group to gently sway as a compact unit if there is a sufficient wind to sway the combined load of all of the garments.

These and such other objects of my invention as may hereinafter appear will be-best understood from a description of the accompany-- ing drawings which illustrate an embodiment thereof.

I also preferably employ a clamping rod 38 also detachably mounted on the free ends of said brackets, in the preferred embodiment over the hooks 36 of said clothes hangers 34 clamping said clothes hanger hooks 36 on said clothes hanger supporting rod 32, although it is apparent that any other suitable type of means for preventing the vhooks 35 from being lifted off of the supporting rod 32 may be employed.

While any suitable type of means may be employed for of the two rods, one `superimposed above the other. If desired, ya threaded adjustable clamp- Ying bolt 43 may be adjustably mounted in a threaded hole 45 in the upper end of said loop 42. I also provide means to prevent the garments from being blown individually on or olf the garment hangers 34 and compelling all said gar,- ments to gently sway as a unit in a gust of wind. In the embodiment shown, each of said frames 56' and 56lo comprises a triangle formed of bent wire andV having a loop 60 at the apex thereof for threading on the clothes hanger supportingrod 32 and terminating in the spaced ends 62 in the base 64 thereof,'forming the space 66 -between said spaced ends. The spacing and retaining bar 58 is provided with the loop 68a at one end thereof and the loop 68ID at the opposite end thereof, each detachably securable to one of said wire frames 56a and 56b through the space 66 between the spaced ends 62 in the base 64 thereof. Where'th'e retaining frames 56a and 56h are employed, the loop 6U of the frame 56a is inserted on the 'garment hanger supportingV rod 32 'close to the end having the hole 48' therein. The clothes hangers 34. having the garments k52 mounted thereon are then hung on the clothes hanger supporting rod 32. The loop 60 of the other frame 5tb is then threaded on the clothes hanger retaining rod 32 adjacent the free end 44 thereof. The loops 68'?L and 68D of the retaining bar 58 are then suitably inserted in said retaining framesl 56a and 56b by bringing them' nrst in the space 66 between the free ends 62 of the bent wire and moving them forwards to receive the front end of the respective base of each respective frame 56aand 56h. The device is then clamped intofposition in the mannerfpreviously explained. Y Y Y As shown in Fig. 1, my device may be `conveniently mounted from one-halfv to two-thirds lthe distance from-the-lower end of the lower window sash 1D, of the Window 12. This provides a readilyV accessible 'place yfrom within the building for hanging and removing the garments and device. i .Y While, as stated, I preferably employ the supportingbrackets I2of a type which may be detachably secured at the will ofthe user, it is apparent that if desired; the brackets I2 may when once'attachedrbe ypermanently aixedto the building. In the claims I kemploy the words adapted to be attached to cover vthe device whether in attached or detached position. a pair of shelf brackets, adapted tov be vsecured to the outer surface.v of a buildingon opposite sides of a window in horizontally `aligned relationship, one of said brackets having a threaded holding stud projecting upwardly fromlthe 'outer end thereof, and the other of said brackets having a duplex rod holding loop projecting upwardy from the outer end thereof, two rods of similar shape, each having a free end engageable/within said loop and a hole on the opposite end for receiving said threaded stud, one comprising a clothes hanger supporting rod and the other comprising a clamping rod for clamping against clothes hanger hooks inserted on said clothes hanger supporting rod, and a clamping nut threadable lon said stud over the holes in said rods, a pair of retaining frames each adapted to abut one end of a group of garments mounted on clothes hangers supported on said clothes hanger supporting rod, detachably mounted on said clothes hanger supporting rod exterior of said clothes, each of said frames comprising a triangle formed of bent wire having a loop for threading on said clothes hanger supporting rod at the apex thereof and terminating in spaced ends vin the base thereof, and a retaining frame spacer and retaining bar having a loop at each end thereof detachably securable to one of said wire frames through the space between the spaced wire ends in the base thereof.

2. A detachable device for airing clothes on the outside of a window, comprising, in combination, a pair of shelf brackets, adapted to be secured to the outer surface of a building on opposite sides of a window in horizontally aligned relationship, a clothes hanger supporting rod detachably mountable on the free ends of said detachable brackets for receiving the hooks of a plurality of clothes hangers having garments thereon, a clamping rod also detachably mountable on the free ends of said brackets for clamping said clothes hanger hooks on said clothes hanger supporting rod, a pair of retaining frames each adapted to abut one end of a group of garments mounted on clothes hangers supported on said clothes hanger supporting rod, detachably mounted on said clothes hanger supporting rod exterior of said clothes, each of said frames comprising a triangle formed of bent wire having a loop for threading on said clothes hanger supporting rod at the apex thereof and terminating in spaced ends in the base thereof and a retaining frame spacer and retaining bar having a loop at each end thereof detachably securable to one of said wire frames through the space between the spaced wire ends in the base thereof.

A detachable device for airing clothes on the outside of a window, comprising, in combination, a pair of shelf brackets, adapted to be secured to the outer surface of a building on opposite sides of a window in horizontally aligned relationship, a clothes hanger supporting rod detachably mountable on the free ends of said detachable brackets for receiving the hooks of a piurality of clothes hangers having garments thereon, a clamping rod also detachably mountable on the free ends of said brackets for clamping said clothes hanger hooks on said clothes hanger supporting rod, a pair of retaining frames each adapted to abut one end of a group of garments mounted onclothes hangersJ supported on saidclothes hanger supporting rod, detachably mounted on saidv clothesv hanger. supporting rod exterior of said. clothes, and a retaining frame spacer'. and retaining barv detachably securable. to each of .saidretaining frames.

A detachable device for. airing clothes on the outside` of a window, comprising, in combination, a pair of shelf brackets, adapted to beV secured to the outer surface of a building on opposite sides of'. awindow in horizontally aligned relationship, one of said brackets having a threaded holding stud projecting upwardly from the outer end thereof, and the other of said brackets having a duplex rod holding loop projecting upwardly from the outer end thereof, and two rods of similar shape, each having a free end engageable within said loop and a hole on the opposite end for receiving said threaded stud, one comprising a clothes hanger supporting rod and the other comprising a clamping rod for clamping against clothes hanger hooks inserted on said clothes hanger supporting rod.

A detachable device for airing clothes on the outside of a window, comprising, in cornbination, a pair of shelf brackets, adapted to be secured to the outer surface of a building on opposite sides of a window in horizontally aligned relationship, at least one of said brackets having a duplex rod holding loop projecting upwardly from the outer end thereof, and having a threaded hole in the upper end thereof, two rods of similar shape, each having an end engageable within said loop, one comprising a clothes hanger supporting rod and the other comprising a clamping rod for clamping against clothes hanger hooks inserted on said clothes hanger supporting rod, and an adjustable bolt threaded within said threaded loop hole to abut said clamping rod for adjustably clamping said clamping rod in clamping position.

A detachable device for airing clothes on the outside of a window, comprising, in cornbination, a pair of shelf brackets, adapted to be secured to the outer surface of a building on opposite sides of a window in horizontally aligned relationship, at least one of said brackets having a duplex rod holding loop projecting from the outer end thereof, two rods of similar shape` each having an end engageable within said loop, o-ne comprising a clothes hanger supporting rod and the other comprising a clamping rod for clamping against clothes hanger hooks inserted on said clothes hanger supporting rod, and means to adjustably clamp said clamping rod in clamping position.

A detachable device for airing clothes on the outside of a window, comprising, in combination, a pair of shelf brackets, adapted to be secured to the outer surface of a building on opposite sides of a window in horizontally aligned relationship, a clothes hanger supporting rod detachably mountable on the free ends of said brackets for receiving the hooks of a plurality of clothes hangers having garments thereon, a pair of retaining frames each adapted to abut one end of a group of garments mounted on clothes hangers supported on said clothes hanger supporting rod, detachably mounted on said clothes hanger supporting rod exterior of said clothes, each of said frames comprising a triangle formed of bent wire having a loop for threading on said clothes hanger supporting rod at the apex thereof and terminating in spaced ends in the base thereof and a retaining frame spacer and retaining bar having a loop at eachV end thereof detachably securable 'to one of said Wire frames through the space between the spaced wire ends in the base thereof.
