1 Claim.
'This invention relates to a combined flashlight and testing device, the general object of the invention being to provide means associated with a flashlight which can be adjusted to render the ashlight inoperative and in this condition the said means can be used for testing fuses and other devices of low resistance.
This invention also consists in certain lother features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure l is an elevational view showing the invention in use for testing a fuse.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through the rear end of the device shown in Figure l.
Figure 3 is a view of the circuit of the device.
In these views the letter A indicates a iiashlight which includes a cylindrical casing I having at one end thereof a cap 2 which carries the lamp and reflector and associated parts of a' ashlight and the numeral 3 indicates a switch for controlling the circuit of the batteries B to the lamp bulb in the usual manner. The numeral 4 indicates the cap threaded to the rear end of the casing I and in carrying out my invention vI form a hole in the central part of the cap 4 for the passage of a screw bolt 5 the headed end of which is placed against' the rear end of the rearmost battery as shown in Figure 2. A small disk 6 of non-conducting material is placed in the hole and larger disks 'I are placed one on each side of the disk 6 and these disks 1 overlap the cap 4 adjacent the hole. Metal washers 8 engage the disks 1 and inner and outer nuts 9 engage the washers 8 and the screw bolt 5 passes through the members 6, 1, 8 and 9 so that these members hold the screw bolt in place. A small metal cap I has a threaded neck II thereon through which the screw bolt passes and by turning the cap on the screw bolt its open end will .be pressed against the cap 4 so as to electrically connect the screw bolt with the cap 4 and thus permit the lamp to be used in the ordinary manner However, by screwing the neck II of the cap I0 outwardly so as to space the cap I0 from the cap 4 the circuit will be broken to the bulb on the lamp even when the switch 3 is closed. A conductor I3 is held to the outer end of the screw bolt 5 by the nut I4 and a metal tip I5 is connected to the other end of the conductor and this tip is adapted to be placed against one end of the fuse F while the other end of the fuse is pressed against the case I. When this is done and if the fuse is in good condition the circuit will be completed to the bulb ofthe flashlight, this indicating that the fuse is in good condition. However, if the fuse is not in .good condition or is burned out then the current will not flow to the bulb of the lamp and this will indicate that the fuse is bad. Of course, by testing other devices in the same manner as the fuse is tested as above described. such devices can be tested to see whether they are in good or bad condition.
It is thought that the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes maybe made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A switch for a iiashlight which includes a case having a battery therein, said switch comprising a cap member for attachment to one end of the case, a screw bolt passing through the cap member, means for connecting the screw bolt to the cap member and insulating it therefrom, the head of the bolt being located inwardly for contact with the battery, a small metal cap having a threaded neck through which an outerportion of the bolt passes, the last mentioned cap when in one position on the bolt engaging/ the cap member and in another position being spaced from the cap member and nuts on the outer end of the bolt for connecting a conductor thereto.
