The invention relates to drawer construction comprising elongated runner shoes or pieces along the sides of the drawer, said runner shoes bein of a suitable durable material such as of metal and upon which the drawer slides, andthe inventionfurther relates to the construction of said runner shoes.

The invention is particularly suited for type cases which are very heavy when containing type, and which must slide freely and often.

Objects of the invention are the provision of a drawer construction and runner shoe construction which is designed to be strong and durable and capable of ready assembly, and which will be easily slidable even when fully loaded.

The invention concerns the features, combination and arrangement of parts-hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawing Figure l is a perspective rear view of a type case or drawer showing the general construction of the drawer.

Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of a portion of said drawer assembly of my invention, substantially on the line 22 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the shoe of my invention.

Referring to the drawing, the elongated runner shoe of my inventionis shown in Fig. 3 which shoe is embodied in the drawer assembly of m invention as shown in Fig. 2.

The runner shoes ar designed to slide upon suitable guides or runways, preferably of metal, provided in the supporting cabinet for the drawers or type cases. The cabinet structure for receiving the drawers or slidable type cases, is not shown. as it forms no part of the present invention, which relates to the drawer assembly with the runner shoe and to the shoe construction itself.

The shoe is of elongated generally channel formation as shown, having a bottom wall I and side walls 2 and 3 to receive and embrace a, portion of the side piece I of the drawer or case as shown in Fig. 2. V

Preferably the-side wall 2 of theshoe extends upwardly beyond the horizontal plane including the uppermost part of the other side wall 3, which side wall 3 preferably has at its upper portion a substantially horizontal flange 5 extending outwardly of the shoe at a substantially lower level than the top 4 of side wall 2.

The outwardl extending substantially horizontal flange 5 of side wall 3 of the 'shoe is thus disposed intermediate the height of the shoe and below the upper edge 4 of side wall 2 which is at ,a higher level.

The flange 5 is preferably of a width less than the width of the main part of the shoe determined by the side walls 2 and 3. The flange 5 is preferably provided with openings 6 therein for the passage of fastening means such as nails 9, the openings 6 desirably being in the form of notches as shown.-

The bottom wall I of the shoe preferably presents a substantially flattened bottom surface as a sliding surface and this is disposed slightly below the bottom piece ID of the-drawer.

In the construction of the assembly of my invention shown in Fig. 2, the lower edge ofthe side piece I is cut away along its inner side providing a depending portion or rib (a along its outer side which is received and embraced by the channel shaped runner shoe of my invention, this rib or portion la of the side piece being in substantial engagement with the inside of the side walls 2 and 3 and bottom i of the shoe.

The side piece 1 rests upon the bottom member it) by engagement of the cut away lower edge surface with said bottom member ID and has an area ll of direct contact with 'the bottom piece 10 of the drawer or type case. One result of this is that slats of the case such as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, at l2, may be applied into their slots I21: in the side piece without need for notching the slats over the flange 5 of the shoe. It will be noticed-from Fig. 2 that the depth of the slot I22: in the inner face of the side piece I extends from the dotted line to the vertical solid line indicated by the arrow heads of the leader line from the reference character [22;

The laterally disposed flange 5 of the shoe thus terminates short of the inner side of the side piece, and is received within a recess l3 formed in said side piece, and is thus disposed between the drawer bottom member ID and the side piece 1.

In my construction, it is to be noted that a desirable feature is that the overall width of the shoe is less than the width of the side piece, providing the area ll of direct contact while the shoe embraces the side piece and is securely retained in place.

It will be apparent that the parts will be reversed for the construction of the other side of the drawer or type case.

The side wall 2 may desirably be received in a desirably covered by cut away area or recess in the side piece I, so that the outer face of said side wall 2 is substantially flush with the outer face of the side piece 1.

Preferably, the shoes do not extend to the front of the drawer or case, but their front ends are drawer bottom member, a drawer side piece, the

lower edge of which is cut away along its inner side providing a rib portion along its outer side, said side piece resting upon said bottom member by engagement of the cut away lower edge surface with said bottom member, a runner shoe for said drawer comprising an elongated member of generally channel formation having a bottom wall and side walls, said channel shaped runner shoe receiving and embracing said rib portion of the side piece, the overall width of said shoe being less than the widthof said side piece.

In combination in a drawer structure for type cases, a drawer bottom member, a drawer side piece having a rib extending and projecting downwardly along the outer portion of its under face, a runner shoe of channel form embracing the rib, and having a horizontal flange fitting in a recess of the side piece and partitions or slats dividing the case into type receiving compartments, said slats resting with their unnotched lower edges upon. the upper face of the bottom board upon which also rests the adjacent lower face of the side piece, substantially as described.

5. In a drawer organization for type cases according to claim 4 in which the inner face of the side piece is recessed to receive the ends of said slats or partitions, substantially as described. 6. In combination in a drawer organization for type cases, a drawer bottom. a side piece havin a rib projecting downwardly from and extending along the outer margin of the side piece, a runner shoe embracing said rib and having a horizontal flange extending part way over the part of the bottom underlying saidside piece, and partitions or slats having their ends fitted in slots of the side piece and having unnotched lower edges resting on the upper side of the drawer bottom, left clear by the said part way overlying flange, substantially as described.

'I. A drawer structure according to claim 3, in .which said horizontal flange is provided with openings in the form of notches in the edge of the flange for the passage of fastening means such as nails.
