Definitions

  • This invention relates to filters, and more particularly to filter elements to be ,used in filter presses. a r
  • bag filters utilized pocket-shapes of cloth specially cut out and sewn for lining or enveloping their elements.
  • the means for securing the cloths deteriorated the cloths, both while being applied to the elements and during use.
  • the mounting'and application of the cloths to the filtering element are extremely easy and can be performed in a very short interval of time (less than a minute).
  • Figure 1 is an elevation view of an element of a bag filter, for example of the Sweetland type
  • Figure 2 is an enlarged cross-section taken on lines a.-a of Figure l;
  • Figure 3 is an enlarged partial elevation showing the manner of fixing and stretching the binding.
  • an element comprising a metal cloth appropriately securedin or to a rim having one or more grooves in its peripheral surface.
  • a disc of a filtering medium such as cloth, etc.
  • the disc of filtering medium is of such dimensions as to permit the marginal portion thereof to extend into and be positioned in the groove in the rim.
  • a binding of any suitable material is wound on the portion of the disc in the groove. The ends of the binding material are appropriately secured to the rim or appurtenant elements so that the securing of the filtering disc in place may be effected in a very short interval of time.
  • the binding is provided at one end thereof with means, such as a button,
  • the binding disposed on the rim and secured therein upon application of tension to the opposite end. thereof.
  • the opposite end of the binding is threaded and, after passing through a slot or hole in a boss or lug carried by the rim, cooperates with a nut which is screwed thereon.
  • the filtering discs are secured in position on each face of the rim by means of binding circularly wound on the rim. Any number. of windings may be employed. Satisfactory results have been secured when the binding extends at least 360 in the grooved periphery.
  • the rim is provided with attachments whereby an evacuation conduit may be secured to the element.
  • the evacuation conduit and its appurtenant parts may be formed integrally with the rim.
  • the support provided In one with the opening which is to cooperate with one end of the binding may be secured to the attachments for the evacuation conduit.
  • the metal fabric may be secured in the rim in any suitable manner.
  • the element comprises a rim I having two spaced grooves Ia and ID in the peripheral surface thereof and enclosing a disc of metal fabric 2.
  • an evacuation conduit 3 for the filtered liquid which, as shown in Figure 3, communicates with the interior of the complete filtering element.
  • a pair of attachments 4 hereafter more fully explained, is rigidly secured to and mounted on the outside of the rim I.
  • conduit 3 is adjacent to and intermediate the attachments 4.
  • Each attachment 4 consists of a plate appropriately secured to the conduit 3 or rim I, or both, as. desired, and provided with holes 6 communicating with slots 6', constituting what is generally termed a keyhole slot.
  • the rim I may be made of various shapes and forms, and the metal fabric ,2 secured thereto in any desired manner. In the form shown, the under surface of the rim is provided with a flange I adjacent the edge thereof. 7
  • a disc 8 of cloth or any other material suitable for filtering purposes isapplied to each face of the rim I.
  • Each disc 8 is of such dimensions that the marginal portion thereof extends in the groove Ia or lb, as the case may be, where it is securely clamped by means of metallic binding I consisting, in the form shown, of steel wires.
  • the steel Wires 'l' are detachable and extendin the respective grooves for about one turn and a quarter.
  • each binding is bent at a right angle and provided with a knob or button II whichcooperates with the respective hole 6 and slot 6'.
  • the other end I2 -of the binding l is threaded and engages a slot 13 of the lug 5.
  • a nut I4, screwed on the threaded end I2 and bearing on the lug 5, permits traction to be exerted on the binding 1.
  • the traction exerted by the nuts I4 on the bindings I forcesthe edge of the filtering disc strongly into the groove of the rim and the bindings securely clamp the same.
  • the rim I is provided with a pair of grooves Ia and lb, one for each disc 8, it is clear that only one groove may be used. In this embodiment, only one binding element I and one set of appurtenant elements would be required.
  • both ends of the bindings may be threaded and secured by means of nuts I4 cooperating with the lugs 5.
  • the shape of the lugs 5 may vary considerably, it being only necessary that the passage of the bindings, slots, holes or bosses shall be disposed in such a manner that the bindings are not released during and after clamping.
  • a filtering element comprising a rim having a peripheral groove therein, a disc of a filtering medium on at least one face of the rim and having the marginal portion thereof disposed in said groove, a binding disposed in said groove and on said marginal portion, said binding having a button on one end thereof and a threaded portion adjacent the other end thereof, said binding being wound in said groove and extending over at least the entire circumference thereof, means disposed on said rim to cooperate with the button endof the binding, means disposed on the rim permitting a nut to cooperate with said threaded portion to exert an adjustable tension on said binding, and a nut screwed on said threaded portion.
  • a filtering element comprising a rim having a peripheral groove therein, a disc of a filtering medium on at least one faceof the rim and having the marginal portion thereof disposed in said groove, a binding disposed in said groove and on said marginal portion, said binding having a button on one end thereof and a threaded portion adjacent the other end thereof, said binding being wound in said groove so that it extends approximately one and one quarter turns in said groove, means disposed on said rim to cooperate with the button end of the binding, means disposed on the rim permitting a nut to cooperate with said threaded portion to exert an adjustable tension on said binding, and a nut screwed on said threaded portion.
  • a filtering element comprising a rim having a peripheral groove therein, means disposed on said rim having a slotted hole, means disposed on said rim having a keyhole slot, a disc of a filtering medium on at least one face of the rim and having the marginal portion thereof disposed in said groove, a binding wound for at least one full turn in said groove and disposed on said marginal edge, said binding having one end thereof provided with a buttonand the other end thereof being threaded, said button adapted to secure. the binding adjacent thereto in said slotted hole, the threaded end extending through said keyhole slot and cooperating with a nut whereby an adjustable tension on said binding is secured.
  • a filtering element comprising a rim having a groove in the peripheral surface thereof, a disc of a filtering medium on at least one face of the rim and having the marginal portion thereof disposed in said groove, a binding engaging said marginal portion to secure said marginal portion in said groove, one end of said binding beingsecured adjacent the periphery of said rim, said binding having a threaded portion adjacent the other end thereof, means rigidly secured to said rim adjacent the peripheral surface thereof and having a passage through which the threaded portion of said binding passes, and a nut screwed on said threaded portion cooperating with the means rigidly secured to the rim to provide' the desired tension in said binding.
