Description

Aug. 19, 1941. L. H. PIERCE DISCHARGE APPARATUS FOR PUMPS Filed Nov. 9, 1940 I n ventor Loa/Ls Rrde A forney Patented Aug. 19, 1941 7 UNITED STATESy PATENT OFFICE Application November No.'365,089
2 Claims.
My invention relates to underground discharge apparatus for pumps.
The principal object of the invention is to provide eillcient, simply constructed apparatus which may be readily installed in any well casing to discharge water from the well underground into a storage tank or the like.
To the accomplishment of the above, and subordinate objects presently appearing, the preferred embodiment of my invention h-as been illustrated in the accompanying drawing, set forth in detail in the succeeding description, and defined in the claims appended hereto.
In said drawing:
v Figure 1 is a view partly in vertical section and partly in side elevation oi' the preferred em-.`
bodiment oi my invention installed,
Figure2 is a view in transverse section taken on the line 2--2 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a similarview taken on the line l-I of Figure 1,
Referring to theV drawing by numerals, ac-
through the upper section I2 into the section I3, said rod section I8 being equipped in the section I3 with a pump piston I8 of the inverted cup type adapted to exert pressure downwardly under the down stroke of said rod sections.
A vertical, through drain port 20 extends through the coupling sleeve 3 at one side thereof.
The upper section I2 is provided therein, within the casing I, with a. lateral back pressure relief port 2|.
As will be understood, the sucker rod Ii is provided in the pump cylinder 2 with the usual pump piston, not shown.
The operation of the described invention will be readily understood. The water is pumped from the pump cylinder 2 up into the coupling sleeve 3, and tubing section I3, under the upstroke of the sucker rod I8, and therod section II,-and by the pump piston in said cylinder and forced out of said sleeve and tubing section by way of the discharge port 4 and pipe line 9 uncording to my invention, a lower section I of the usual well tubing, of suitable length, arising from the conventional underground pump y cylinder 2 has threadedon the upper end there-` of a. short upstanding coupling sleeve I provided der the down stroke of said rod section I8 and piston I9. Back pressure against the piston Il Is relieved through port I2| and port 20 and any water leaking past the piston I8 into the upper said sections I2, I3 and the sleeve 3 may bepulled out of the casing 'I as a unit, and the cap ing 1 and through the bushing Sinto communication -with the discharge port I.`
The upper end o! the well casing 1 is closed piece vIII removed therewith so that the sucker cylinder 2 for repair or replacement had, all
- without digging up or disconnecting the disby an annular cap piece I0 undercut, as at II,
to llt into said endend suitably secured thereto.
An upper section I2 of well tubing is threaded into thecap piece III to depend for a suitable distance therefrom into the casing 1. A short lsection I3 .oi brass well tubing is threaded at ingradially into the ilange l of coupling sleeve 3 iiush with said ilange additionally secure the section I3 in said coupling sleeve 3.'
#The sucker rod I6 of the pump extends out o! the lower section I up into the coupling sleeve 3 and isconnected bya short sleeve coupling I1 to a sucker rod section Ilfextendlng downwardly charge line 9.
The foregoing will, it is believed, sumce to ceptible of modiiication without departing from :said `sections I3 and I2. Set screwsl Il extendbe sunk in a well, a tubing section extendingv upwardly from said cylinder, and a sucker rod the inventive concept and right is herein re servedto such modifications as fall within the scope loi' the subjoined claims.
'What I claim is:
1..'I'he combination with a pump cylinderv t extending from said cylinder upwardly from said tubing section, of a well casing surrounding said rod and tubing section and extending above the same, a lateral discharge line tapped into said casing immediately above said tubing section 2 and-'adapted to be burieain the ground. a. 'sleeve member secured in said casing and to said tub-l a,asa,o4c g `the. same, a lateral discharge` line tapped into l said casing immediately above said tubing secing section for detachment therefrom andvremoval upwardly through said casing and provided with a lateral discharge port therein communicating with said discharge line, a tubing movable therewith, and a sucker rod section in said tubing line coupled to the firstl men' tioned sucker rod for detachment therefrom and provided with a downwardly acting piston opline arising from said sleeve member and reerating in said tubing line above said coupling l said rod and tubing section and extending above tion and adapted to be buried in the ground, a sleeve member secured in said casing andl to 'said tubing section for detachment therefrom and Y a removal upwardly through said casing and provided with alateral discharge port therein coml municating with lsaid discharge line, a tubing line arising from said sleeve member and removable therewith, and a sucker rod section lin said tubing line coupled to the first-mentionedsucker rod for detachment therefrom and provided with a downwardly acting piston operating in said tubing line above said coupling sleeve, said tubmg une being provided above said ,piston with a lateral back pressure relief vent therein leading into said casing.l v
