b1ank Bmay extend laterally beyond the marginal portions F and G of the folded bag-forming bag A, in which circumstance the guide rails |2|, |22, are moved apart so that they will act on the side edges of the carton-blank with the marginal portions F andG of the bag-forming blank inl proper position to be seamed by the sealing bars 20, 2|. The adjustment lof the guide rails |2|, |22 is eiected through the screws |21, |28, Y'
and the slots |25, |26 in the guide rails.
. Withl the folded bag-forming sheet A, or with the assemblvof such a sheet witha folded earton-formng sheet B, in position on the worksupport, and with the v'ends of the sealing bars 2 l,
22, extending over the fold C of the folded bagforming sheet A, the foot treadle 'I3 is pushedaway from the operator, swinging the arm I2 oi the bell-crank lever down, and carrying with it the equalizing bar V15, The equalizing bar at its ends, pulls down the oppositely pivoted levers 80, 8|, and these pull on the pull-rods 66, 61, which are attached to the levers 6U, 6|, which levers carry the pins 63,64 which bear von the levers 53, 54 and move the latch-contacting portions 56, 51 thereof out of contact with said latches. This allows the latches 5|, 52, to engage the shafts 43, 44, and thereby clutch the cams 46, 41, to said shafts 43, 44, which are driven by the motors 30, 3|.k The cams 46, 41, acting on the arms 48, 49, of the rock-shafts 36, v39, turn the said rock- shafts 36, 39, and move the heads 33, 34 (carried by the arms 36, 31, attached to said rock-shafts) toward the folded bag-iorming sheetlyingl on Vthe work-support with its marginal portions extending over the backing members 23, 24. VThe heads 33, 34, to which they sealing bars 20, 2| are connected by a floating connection, press the-sealing bars against 'the marginal portions F and G of thebag-forming sheet A. The downward movement 'of the heads 33, 34 continues slightly beyond the point where the sealing bars make contact with the bagforming sheet, so as to additionally tension the 4resilient means comprising the compression springs 95, 96. 'I'he cams 46, 41 by reason of their contour, maintain the heads 33, 34, at their lowermost position through a certain interval of time. During this bag-forming sheet are .under the pressure of the treadle 13.
By the operation of the machine, as described, a. specially folded bag-forming sheet, or such a sheet in a special assembly with a folded cartonforming sheet as illustrated in Fig. 6, is simultaneously seamed at its two marginal portions F and G, and a bag which is seamed at its two sides by the seams K and L, closed at its bottom by the fold C, and open at the top, is formed at one operation of the machine.
The invention may receive other embodiments than that herein specincally illustrated and described.

While thus under pressure and heat, the thermoplastic, materialof which the bag-forming sheet is made, or lined, or striped at the place of seal, softens and welds to form the seam. By reason ofthe floating connection between the sealing bars 2U, 2i, and their heads, the work-contacting faces 85 o f the Seal' v ing bars can adjust or accommodate themselves to the flat surface of the material, and thereby form a weld or joint of equal strength and se' curity the fun width .of the 'aforesaid workcontacting faces 85 of the sealing bars.
