Referring to Figs. 1 to 4 of the drawings, I designates the body section of the cabinet and forms the upper display compartment 2 that is closed by a hinged top 3 in a manner common to cabinets or chests employed for the storing and display of silverware.

:This body section includes the lining member 4 formed of suitable stiff material, such as cardboard, covered with cottonflannel or the like and inserted into the body.

The bottom section 6 of the cabinet is of traylike form having a bottom part Ba and opposing sides 6b mounted thereonadjacent to but spaced slightly inward from its side edges, as best shown in Fig. 2. The bottom part Ba is of a size for the bottom edges of the body section I to seat down thereon, while the side parts 6b lap the inner sides of the body sides la and extend at their ends beyond the body ends lb through notches 8 in the, lower edges thereof. The parts 61) likewise extend at their ends beyond the bottom part 6a of the tray, and adjacent ends of these parts are connected by a hand bar 60 disposed parallel and in slightly spaced relation to the respective body end.

It is apparent that to lift the display cabinet as a whole, the handle bars 6c are grasped and raised. Also that to remove the body I from the tray member, it is only necessary to raise one 1 from the other.

In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 5 to 8, the body section is designated l5 and the bottom or tray section I6. The body I5 is of the same general construction as the body I of the previous form, except that its ends |5b terminate at their lower edges substantially flush. with the bottom of the lining member ll of. the body. The lower edge portions of the front and back sides l5a of the body [5 project downward below the plane of the lining bottom I1 and rest upon the side edge portions of the tray bottom.

In this form, the tray l6 comprises the bottom part 16a, the upstanding side parts [61) disposed at the opposite ends of the bottom member l6a, and the bars or rod-like members I60, which are inwardly spaced fromthe front and rear side edges of the tray bottom 16a and connect the respective ends of the sides I612. The side parts lBb are of a shape and size to fill the space provided at the bottom end edges of the body ends [5b by the terminating of such ends substantially flush with the bottom of the lining member I|. When the body [-5 and tray I6 are assembled, the front and rear sides l5a of the body rest on the respective edge portions of the tray bottom part [6a and the shallow end portions [5b of the body rest on the upper ends of the tray side parts l6b, so that the sides and ends of the body and the side part lfib of the tray cooperate to form, in appearance, a closed body wall with the bottom part Ilia of the tray serving as the bottom member of the body. To facilitate lifting the cabinet in this assembled form, the side parts lSb of the tray are provided at their outer sides with handle parts ll.

It is apparent that in each form of the invention the cabinet may be used to form an upper and lower compartment for containing silverware or the like and, for display purposes, the body and tray sections may be separated and placed so as to display the silverware or other articles contained in either or both. It is also apparent that in either case the tray section may be used as a serving tray by simply removing the article-holding portion therefrom. Also that in either case the body section has a depending skirt portion for resting on the bottom section,

which skirt portion is recessed to receive upwardly projecting portions of the bottom section to which exposed handles are attached. In the case of the form shown in Figs. 1 to 3, this articleof the body section when the two sections are in assembled relation, and handles attached to the outer sides of said upstanding members, said .bottom section, when removed from the body section, being usable as a display tray or a serving tray.

'An article of the class described comprising a body section forming a top display compartment and having side walls and a bottom set inwardly relative to the lower edges of said side Walls to form a supporting skirt portion, said ment or form of the parts, as it is capable of numerous modifications and changes without departing from the spirit of the claims.

"Having thus described our invention, what we claim -as new, and "desire to secure by United StatesLetters Patent is:

1. An article of the class described comprising a body section and a bottom section, the body section forming a top display compartment and having its sides and ends projecting below the bottom of said compartment to form the body section with a bottom recess, opposing sides of said body section having their lower edges notched, said bottom section including a bottom member on which the sides of the body section seat and havingside members project- 7 ing upwardly within said bottom recess withtheir ends projecting-outwardly through respective of said notches, and hand bars connecting said pro j-ected ends without the respective sides of the body section, said bottom section cooperating with the body sec'tion,-When assembled therewith to forma bottom compartment and, when removed therefrom, adapted to be used as a displaytray or as aserving tray. l

2. An article of the class described comprising a body section and a bottom section, the body section having a bottom, sides and ends forming a top display compartment and having the bottom .edges of its sides extended below said compartment bottom to form the body section with a bottom recess, said body section having its ends provided with cut away parts, and said bottom section including a bottom part on which the sides of the body section seat and also having upstanding end members which fit into the cutaway parts of the body section ends so as to close said cutaway parts when the two sections are in assembled relation, bars connecting the respective end portions of said upstanding 7 members and disposed within the bottom recess skirt portion having a plurality of inwardly extending recesses in its lower edges, and a bottom section of tray-form on which said skirt portion rests and having handle carrying parts which project up into said skirt recesses when the bottom section is mounted thereon and providing exposed handles at the respective outer sides of the body section, said bottom section cooperating with the body section when assembled therewith to form a closed article containing compartment and adapted when separated from the body section to form an article display section and a serving tray.

4. An article of the type set forth including an upper and a lower member, the upper member having a top and side and end walls, a bottom carried by the upper member and disposed spaced above the lower edges of the side and end walls, the lower member having a bottom, handle elements at its ends and side elements connecting the handle elements and spaced inwardly of the side edges of the bottom of the lower mem ber, said connecting elements extending upwardly from'the bottom of the lower member to form sides therefor, the side walls of the upper member being receivable over said connecting elements of the lower member and seating on the bottom of the lower member and being engageable with said connecting elements to hold the upper member against transverse sliding on the lower member, the end walls of the upper member being located inwardly of the handles proper whereby the latter project outwardly beyond the end walls of the upper member when the latter is seated on the lower member. v

5. An article in accordance with claim 4, wherein'the handle elements include members forming end walls for the lower member and wherein the bottom edges of the end walls of the upper member seat on the top edges of said end walls of the lower member.

6. An article in accordance with claim 4, wherein the end walls of the upper member are recessed to receive therethrough the outer ends of the connecting elements of the lower member.
