'This invention relates to waistbands for trousers, and its general object is to provide trousers with a waistband which makes; it possible to instantly convert the samel into highror low Waisted trousers, as the conversion is brought about merely by turning the band down or up, and when in its'dow'nturned position, amply supports the trousers from the hips of the wearer, while when turned up the trousers are to be supported by Suspenders, thus it will be seen that my convertible waistband allows the wearer to convert his trousers for use with or without Suspenders as the occasion demands, and in any event the waistband will be positioned to present a neat appear-ance.

A further object is to provide trousers including a convertible waistband constructed in a manner and from; suitable material so that when it is turned down in hip supporting position, will give the appearance of a belt.

Another object is to provide trousers including a convertible waistband that eliminates the necessity of expensive alterations for changing the rise, to meet the desires of a purchaser, as it is obvious that some persons desire high waisted trousers for use with Suspenders, while others do not care to use Suspenders under any circumstances.

A still further object is to provide trousers including a convertible waistband that is neat in appearance when turned up or down, simple in construction, easy to apply to any type or style of trousers, inexpensive to manufacture, and extremely eicient in use and service.

'Ihis invention also consists in certain other features of construction land in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specically pointed out in the appended claim.

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Figure 1 is a front View illustrating my waistband applied to dress trousers and turned down in hip supporting position.

Figure 2 is a similar view illustrating the waistband turned up for receiving Suspenders.

Figure 3 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 3-3 of Figure 1.

Figure 4 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 4-4 of Figure 2.

Figure 5 is a perspective sectional view taken illustrating the connecting tongue at one end of be applied to any style or type of trousers and that those shown are merely for the purpose of illustrating the application of my band.

The band of course is made into a pair of'sections to vary the size thereof in the usual manner and the sections which are indicated respectively by the reference numerals I and 2 are each shown as being made from a single strip of material folded slightly beyond the longitudinal center thereof, as best shown in Figure 5, to provide face portions 3 and 4 secured together throughout their length by stitching 5 disposed adjacent the folded or upper edge of the band and stitching E1 disposed adjacent to the lower or inner edge portion thereof. The face portion has its lower edge secured to the upper edge of the body of the trousers by stitching l, while the face portion 3 which is wider than the face portion 4, extends below the stitching 1 to cover the stitched edges of the body and portion 4, as clearly shown in Figures 3 and 4.

The rear ends of the sections are of course stitched together, and each section is of suicient length to allow for the usual adjustment to vary the size of'. the waistband. The fro-nt end of the section l terminates flush with the side edge of the front flap B of the trousers, as shown in Figure 2, while the front end of the section 2 terminates in a tongue 8 having a reduced free end and extending a considerable distance beyond the rear ap C as shown in Figure 6. Suitable fastening means are provided for fastening the front end portions of the sections together, and I have illustrated a pair of buttons 9 secured to the section 2f at the juncture of the tongue 8 therewith, for the purpose of being received in buttonholes in the front end portion of the section I. The tongue 8 is likewise suitably connected to the face portion 3, and the fastening means for that purpose is shown as being a button Ill secured to the face portion 3 to be received in a buttonhole l I extending longitudinally of and adjacent to the outer end of the tongue 8, as clearly shown in Figure 6.

Each of the sections l and 2 have secured to the face por-tions 4 thereof suspender receiving buttons I2 arranged in pairs, there being of course two pairs of buttons at the front of the waistband and one p-air at the rear thereof, as clearly shown in Figure 2.

From the above description and disclosure in the drawing, it will be obvious that my waistband is turned down exteriorly of and in surrounding relation with the body A, as shown in Figure 1, to provide hip supporting trousers and up as shown in Figure 2 to provide trousers to be supported by Suspenders. When the band is turned down, the suspender buttons I2 are hidden from view and the tongue 8 is exposed', consequently when the band is in that positon,.it gives the appearance of a belt. Y

In View of the fact that each section is made from a single strip of material, in the form shown,

and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall Within the scope of the appended claim.

l/Vhat I claim is:

A convertible waistband for trousers, comprising a band including a pair of sections having their rear ends secured together for relative adjustment to vary the size of the band, each section being made from a single strip of. material folded substantially along the longitudinal cen- Y ter thereof to provide face portions stitched together along their length in close proximity to f the fold and adjacent their edges opposed to the fold, one face portion being wider than the other, the narrow face portion having its edge opposed to the .-fQld stitched to the upper edge of the body of the trousers with the fold uppermost and the ,Y wide face portion having its edge portion that is the face portions 3 and 4 will of course be `of the same material, but the portion 3 may be made from a different kind and colorof material from that of the portion 4,A and Vin fact, the portion 3 may be made from leather or like material, so that the band will more clearly simulate a belt, in its downturned position or Figure 1.

Any suitable fastening means may be used in placeof the button and buttonholes shown,v such as` ,snap fasteners, etc.

It Vis thought from the :foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention ywill be readily apparent.

Itis to be understood that changesmay be made in the construction and in the combination opposed .to the fold arranged within the -body to overlap the stitched edges of the body and the narrow face portionv to'vcover the same, said band being adapted to be foldedadjacent to its juncture with the body to be turned down' exteriorly ofv and in surrounding relation therewith to lowerthe-waist of the trousers and to be turned up to raise the waist thereof, means for detachablyv securing-the front ends of the sections togethena. tongue included in saidrsecuringmeans and formed on one section, means on the other section for detachably securing the tongue thereto, andsuspender receiving buttons secured to the band and disposed on lthe narrow face portion.
