My invention relates to incinerators, particularly for burning trash or the like in locations where intense heat or escaping embers may set fire to other things in the neighborhood of the incinerator and is particularly adapted for use on boats for garbage and trash disposal and the objects of my invention are:
First, to provide an incinerator with a water jacket to prevent heat being conducted to the outside of the incinerator suiflciently to cause fire;
Second, to provide an incinerator of this class with means for catching all of the embers or live fire coals which pass through the grate into the ashes and drowning the same;
Third, to provide an incinerator of this class with a water jacket in which the pressure in the water jacket is limited by the open upper portions of the incinerator;
Fourth, to provide an incinerator of this class which is so constructed and arranged that it may be used on a wooden deck boat, if desired, without danger of fire;
Fifth, to provide a novelly constructed incinerator of this class; and
Sixth, to provide an incinerator of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, efficient in its action, easy to operate and in which the danger of fire therefrom is reduced to a minimum.
With these and other objects in View as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which Figure 1 is a side elevational view of my incinerator shown from the front side thereof and showing some of the parts and portions fragmentarily to facilitate the illustration; Fig. 2 is a sectional View taken from the line 22 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken from the line 33 of Fi 2.

The inner casing I, outer casing 2, flue 3, hood 4, grate 5, embers extinguishing box 6, water supply conductor I, water supply pump 8, overflow conductor 9 and screen Ill constitute the principal parts and portions of my incinerator.
The inner casing I is preferably rectangular in cross section and is provided with an opening la in its front side for receiving the material to be incinerated such as boxes, trash or the like. Extending from the lower side from the opening la is a bevelled outwardly extending portion lb which forms a slide or ramp for the trash to be thrown upon so that it will slide into the casing I, as shown best in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The lower end of this casing l is open and mounted therein is the grate 5 which is preferably made of a plurality of railroad rails in spaced relation to each other extending across the bottom from end to end and supported to the inner side of the inner casing I at the ends by welding. This inner casing I is provided with upwardly converging walls lc which terminate in a round cylindrical portion Id which extends upwardly some distance. Secured on the inner side of this cylindrical portion Ib is the fiue member 3 which extends upwardly any distance desired. Mounted in this flue member 3 is a screen In which is adapted to prevent hot coals from passing out of the upper side of the flue. Around this casing I and spaced therefrom a short distance is the outer casing 2 which is shaped substantially the same as the inner casing I, thus leaving a space W for a water jacket between the inner and outer casings I and 2. This outer casing also has an opening 2a which conforms to the open ing la in the inner casing and serves for the door. It also is provided with an outwardly extending angular portion 2b which connects with the outer extending end of the portion lb forming a water tight joint. It is also provided with diverging walls 20 and with a cylindrical portion 2d at its upper end.
It will be here noted that the space between the members Id and 2d at the upper end is open so that if the water in the jacket W transforms into steam, the pressure will not build up, but it can flow out, and positioned on the flue 3 immediately above this opening 441 is a hood 4 which deflects any steam or water coming from the opening 4a in the upper side of the Water jacket W.
The inner and outer jackets are connected together around the door by means of a member 26 and are connected together at the bottom by means of the member 2], which extends all the way around, thus providing a water-tight water jacket W open at the upper end, but closed otherwise. 7 Water is supplied to the water jacket W through a conductor I which communicates with the water jacket W supplied by a pump 8 or from any Water supply source. Communicating with the outer jacket 2 near the upper edge of the portion 2d is an overflow conductor 9 which extends downwardly past the end of the incinerator for carrying the water away in case there becomes an over supply.
Pivotally mounted on the lower side of the outer casing 2 by means of hinges 6a is the embers extinguishing box 6 which is a metal box substantially 8 inches deep covering the whole of the lower side of the outer casing 2 and this box is water-tight and is supported at the side 6b by a latch 66. This box 6 is supplied with water into which the embers and ashes drop and are extinguished when they fall in the water in this box 6, which may be unlatched and the water and ashes dropped out below when it is substantially full.
The operation of my incinerator is substantially as follows: Trash or other material desired to be incinerated is placed on the grate 5 through the door openings la and 2a, the box being substantially filled with water and the water jacket W being substantially filled with water to the top. Then the trash is ignited and burned in the inner casing l, the water jacket preventing the outer casing 2 from becoming overheated enough to cause fire. If the water in the water jacket W gets too hot, it can, if necessary, expand upwardly'through the open end la. After each days burning, receptacle 8 may be unlatched and the contents emptied and again latched and: r filled with water. It will be noted there is space enough between the upper edge of the box 5 and the lower side of the outer casing 2 and the inner casing I to permit air to pass inwardly through the grate 5 for proper combustion.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a trash incinerator for boats or the like of the class described, the combination of an inner fire box casing, an outer fire box casing, water-tight connections between said casings at the lower side only and open at the upper side, a grate positioned in the lower side of the inner casing, and a water-tight metallic box hinged to one side of the outer casing and arranged to hold water and extending under the grate for re.- ceiving embers therefrom.
2. In a trash incinerator for boats or the like of the class described, the combination of an inner fire box casing, an outer fire box casing, Water-tight connections between said casing at the lower side only and open at the upper side, a grate positioned in the lower side of the inner casing, a water-tight metallic box hinged to one side of the outer casing and arranged to hold water and extending under the grate for receiving embers therefrom, said inner casing provided with a reduced opening in its upper side, a flue mounted therein and extending upwardly therefrom, said casings closed except at their top and bottom but provided with an opening in one side of both inner and outer casings to serve as a door.
3. In a trash incinerator for boats or the like of the class described, the combination of a fire box casing provided with a'water jacket in substantially its whole side area, said water jacket open to atmosphere at its upper end, said casing open at its lower inner side provided with a grate therein, and an embers receiving watertight box hinged on the lower side of said casing arranged to hold embers extinguishing water therein.
