Description

' H. NIPOM EROY: Millstone-Driver. No. 224,350. Patented Feb, 10, I880.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY 1v. POMEROY, or BRISTOL, WISCONSIN.
MILLSTONIE-DRIVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 224,350, dated February 10, 1880.
i I Applicain'onfiledDecembe1-9,179.
- Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inMillstone-Drivers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,
. which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference beinghad tothe accompanying drawings, and to the letters of'refeience marked thereon, which form a partof this specification. 9
My invention relates to milisto'ne-drivers; and it consists in providing the spindle of a millstone with an adjustable box, from which is swung an adjustable frame carrying the driving-points which straddle the projecting rynd and drive the stone.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation, showing the box, swinging frame, and ryndupon the spindle. Fig. 2 is a top view, showing the pivots connecting the frame, and the box, and-also the slide-joints in the frame. Fig. 3 is a side view, showing the lugs on the swinging frame.
The same letters of reference indicate like parts in all the figures. j
A is the box, formed of two semicircular parts, with lips on either side, bolted together around the spindle S. It may be made of any shape to fit any spindle. The box and the spindle are grooved correspondingly to receive the key G, which binds them together.
On each piece of the box, near the top, is a pivot, from which is swung the frameD, made adjustable to the box by means of the slidejoints E. On the sides below the pivots the frame extends downward and bearsthe lugs O G O O, projecting outward at right angles to the frame. On their inner face they are raised to the center and form the drivingpoints a a; a: w. Two of these lugs, on either side of the frame, straddle the rynd, and by the motion imparted through the spindle turn the stone. The rynd H extends into the eye of the stone far enough to give bearing for the driving-lugs.
This arrangement obviates the cutting away of the stone to make bearings for the ordinary driver, and gives an easy movement to the rnnnin g stone, obviating all shake and jar, and
thereby keeping the bush tight and the machinery in order. p u 1 Having thus described my invention, I
claim-- 1. The adjustable frame D, having the slide- -joints E and bearing the driving-lugs G, in
combination with the box A, and swung from the pivots thereoflsubstantially as set forth.
2. The box A, provided with pivots on the sides and formed of the two semicircular parts, combined with 'the frame D, having the slidejoints E, and bearing the lugs O, which rise on their inner face to'a driving-point, as, and with the rynd H, substantially as shown, and for the-purpose set forth. 7
- Intestimony thatI claim the foregoing as myown I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
' HENRY N. POMEROY.
Witnesses: V
